Enjoyed this although you have a misspelled word on your thumbnail? Also what does “backing the Sierras” mean? Also there is no “S” in sierras… it’s plural… cheers
Watched this video last night and I need to tell you, It has truly inspired me to want to do this hike. I live at the foot of the Blue Ridge, in Virginia and hike portions of the AT a lot. At 74, I begin training for the TRT. I would like to ask. There is one song played and sung, Everybody Says She’s Beautiful. What is the title and where can I get access? Hope to hear from you soon. Keep on keeping on my Friend.
that was an excellent video. The rock scramble from Iceberg Lake to Cecile Lake looked menacing. FYI, the bridge at the 31:00 minute make got taken out by the 2022/2023 winter snowmelt.
Hi and thanks for watching! I used the Topo Athletic Pursuits. I finished the trial so cant complain too much of the shoes. Traction is fantastic, but I was not fully adapted to the zero drop. I ended up with a slight calf strain, which may or may not have been due to the shoes. Nevertheless, if you like zero drop shoes these are a great option!
Thanks for watching and the comment! I used an app called Relive, which can be found in the apple or android store. It takes data from an apple watch, garmin, etc and places the route on a nice 3d map. Definitely fun to play with!
@@ScienceTrekker thank you so much! The relive app is a very cool animation, and the sort of 3D side view is a great illustration of the terrain. Really enjoyed your video! Seems like you do lots of amazing hikes 🙂
Such a different year than 2022! I went CCW from KBS June/July and barely touched any snow. I had to bail on the last ~40mi (Echo to KBS) so I'm seriously considering doing it again, CW. Unfinished business. And the logistics are so easy I just need to be ready to go when a good week presents itself. Hoping for more reasonable snow this winter!
Oh wow, the weird pump at Marlette died! Looks terminal. At least there's a bit of ground water nearby usually. Hopefully a new pump by summer. Broken since early last year according to Farout, surprised they didn't replace it faster...
Thanks for watching and the comments! Yes, I have heard that bit to Mt Rose is a great leg. After the pit toilet experience and snow, we were pretty excited to reach the end. One day I'll come back and do that extra leg!
Thanks for the comment and glad you enjoyed! My videos will never be sponsored and will always be free because the goal is to share more of thr outdoors with people. I'm happy you enjoyed the aerial ride in this video:)
Superb video! I hiked it, clockwise starting at KB north in July/Aug of this year. Snowpack was still heavy but the weather was warm the whole time. Thanks for taking the time to put this together, it's wonderful seeing all the sections of trail again!
Congratulations on this phenomenal backpacking video that you produced! Now I'm hooked on your channel as a subscriber and I clicked the notification button as well. I wish you guys the best and I just didn't want this video to end. I look forward to watching more videos from your channel! PS, I didn't see that you to experience too many mosquitoes on your 8-day hike?
Thanks for watching and the compliment! This is a great trail - I would like to do it again many times in the future! I used a GoPro 11 to document my journey.
That video was truly epic! Congratulations on completing your TRT thru hike, and doing it in record time! Loved your selection of cinematic music, so tastefully done, and was so relaxing to listen to. Five star production!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Ps: The very last song, it's so beautiful, what is the name of it? I looked up and listened to every song you cited, but I couldn't find a match for that particular one.
Thank you so much for watching and for your kind comments! It was a great trail and really amazing experience. The very last song is “guardians of the galaxy vol 3 trailer music - extended version” by Alex Vagda. I do agree that it is a beautiful piece!
Well done video! I did a trip from Reds Meadow to Yosemite via Thousand Island Lakes in the 1990s. Your video gave me the feeling I was back there again… ah the wonderful memories… God is great! Thank you again. Jim B
54 years ago in 1968, this was the adventure of a lifetime. We had little "Brownie" box cameras and I admire the slides and prints to this day. I know that when you are my age, the images you captured here will reduce you to tears. The magic of what you have experienced will remain with you to the last of yours days and you will remain a "Sierra Person" wondering how the rest of humanity manages to go through life without these magnificent encounters of creation. Congratulations and thank you.
Thank you for the kind words Paul and I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I do not do these videos for money but to relive the experience myself and to share with others. I still find myself day dreaming about the trail and I remember every twist and turn along the way. The Sierras are an extremely special place and I'm glad you got to experience it and have great memories!
Not sure how I feel about the 360 (enjoyed it on the parts from crescent to kaweah gap though). The night shots were great in general, especially the Milky Way. Made me feel guilty that I did not get up more often at night to enjoy it on my hike. I did get out of the tent once at night and walk out on the shore of Moraine Lake and was disoriented by the number of stars in the sky. For my hike the forest service had closed the eastern exits and my buddy and I looped back from Moraine Lake over Black Rock Pass. We hope to go back this September to do the whole trail and I can only hope that we can have a Whitney experience like yours which you so spectacularly captured.
Thank you very much for the comment! I agree, the 360 video can be hit or miss - it doesn't have as good of a resolution as a standard camera, but can capture some incredible shots when used at the right time. I hope you get to see the rest of the trail soon! The section from Moraine lake to Mt Whitney is amazing! I'd highly recommend hiking to the top of Mt. Whitney so that you are there at sunrise - it's a very unique experience!
@@ScienceTrekker Im nervous man lol going solo never been long dist hiking before. Is it easy to get lost? Good thing is low snowfall this year so easier to stay on trail. Any issues you came across? What are the best camp spots thanks
@@gerryortiz7276 You'll be fine! I did the JMT solo and it was a great experience. There's a lot of people that do the HST so you will never be truly alone. Plus, once you hit the JMT section there will be a lot of people. The trail is really well marked so I wouldn't worry about getting lost. We didn't have any big issues on our trip. I just came back from the Rae Lakes loop region and they mentioned a lot of bear activity (I did not see any), so that's something to look out for. Mosquitos were moderate and were not too bad. In terms of camp sites, I'd recommend Buck creek canyon instead of Bearpaw (there are some great campsites tucked away in the bushes past the bear box).
@@gerryortiz7276 Also try to stay at Precipice lake - it's extremely picturesque and has a wonderful view of the valley. From there, Moraine lakes is pretty good. You can always try to stay at the hot springs as its situated in a beautiful canyon - we continued on to junction meadow. Depending on where you stay the previous day, try to get to Guitar Lake around 6 pm (we camped out at crabtree from around 2pm - 6pm to wait out the heat). IF you can, sunrise on Mt. Whitney is spectacular! We left at 2 am from Guitar lake and made it up around 5 am. Enjoy you trip - going solo is a great experience!
This is really well done. Thank you for showing us details of the hike! It gives us a really good idea of what to expect during the trek. The music was great, too. Allows for the enjoyment of the natural beauty.
@@ScienceTrekker - thanks for the response. I took two with me, but recording fell off on the second half of the trip after spraining my ankle east of Moraine Lake. I think I need another go at the HST and capture the second half - it was so amazing!
@@ScienceTrekker - I will have to check out that lens! I've got the Rokinon 12mm and a6400, but haven't used it that much yet. I guess I need to get busy!
