No, the new president came, cancelled it and built another, cheaper, one 50 km away from the city and made the inauguration three days ago. The supposed airport that would solve the saturation problem of the old one is receiving only 6 daily flights, and due to it not meeting the regulation demanded by most international airlines, it has no international flights, except for one every two weeks from Venezuela, just so the government is able to call it an “international airport”.

It's utterly offensive that they claim a false flag of sustainability when they had to demolish over 100 hills in order to get enough gravel to fill up and displace the water from the ancient lake bed. It's a shame for the architects and all the workers who were involved in this project, but the site was chosen on the worst possible terrain for an airport due to endemic corruption, as Peña Nieto's political group had bought the land nearby for the so-called Aerotropolis since years before, and farmers were deceived into selling their land under the lie that they were going to preserve the lake to avoid floods. A more suitable location was north of the city, in the town of Tizayuca, where the project could've been built at a fraction of the cost and at a distance shorter than that of Narita to Tokyo, and the current airport wouldn't need to cease operations. The costs to face the "controlled sinking" of the airport were, and will remain a mystery. A look at the current state of Kansai airport in Osaka, much smaller than this one, can be a reference on how expensive it is to fight against physics. This project would've been to Mexico what the Athens 2004 Olympics were to Greece. We dodged a bullet to the face.
If one look past often grandiose declarations (particularly known) architects make about their profession, those most satisfied with their job tend to be dim witted science wise and university education is all amalgamation of art/history/english majors. I regret graduating with this pussy degree where architects office environment can be very petty & stifling. If you honor STEM, best to stay away. Cream does not necessarily rise to the top in this profession i.e. you have to be buffoonish and sell yourself. Also many so called known architects are not from best undergrad schools including this ding dong Foster fella. That should tell you something.

@@SynDeus Esta demostrado que TODA la zona del lago de Texcoco incluida la pequeña area donde se localizaría el NAICM, se ha utilizado por años como un vaso regulador para que la capital no se inunde, al cambiar su ciclo hidrológico hubiese puesto en serio riesgo la inundación del NAICM y al Valle de Mexico causarle mas dolores de cabeza a los ya de por sí que se tienen, y ademas sin mencionarte a detalle innumerables hundimientos diferenciados ya detectados y demostrados....... maestría en Proyectos para el Desarrollo Urbano de la Universidad Iberoamericana.
