I hope the Topo's worked out. I love mine, especially the insane traction on wet rocks and roots. The only issue I've had is a bit of delamination between the edge of the midsole and the upper. I fixed it with a drop or two of super glue. I have very narrow feet and have to cinch the laces quit tight, so that may put added stress on that bond. The last 10k you ran looks like most of the Ozark trails I run. Lots of what i call "toe candy"! I was going to check the results, but thought I'd rather wait for your video. Hope you had a blast.
I love Lone Peaks and same pais has lasted me over 1k miles. Having said that, others have suggested a suitable comparison shoe is Topo Pursuit shoe. If you search that up, a lot of people agree...just on pricey side so need to hit it when on sale.
@@coachb530 I had a few pairs of Lone Peaks, then also tried some Timps. If the Topos don’t agree with my feet I might try the new Experience Wilds, finally an Altra without zero drop
Nice "track" running. I'm glad the gofundme could help fund your Topo MTN Racer 3 purchase. Great shoes! "Finally a hill (so that I can walk and catch my breath)". Hehe! Limehouse looks so fun to run!
Tried to be a nice human and help a giant alligator snapping turtle. It not only didn't want my help it chased me back to my car. I didn't know turtles could move that quick! Your trails look so similar to the ones I run in the Ozarks; I could almost feel the ticks. I just commented on your last video recommending the Topos, but it looks like you've already bought a vowel and solved the puzzle. I hope you're enjoying them as much as I do.
Welcome back! Seeing this was nearly as exciting as dialing in and hearing "You've got mail" in the way back. I really liked my Altras, but due to various issues I switched to Topo Athletics and found my favorite shoes. Everything I liked about the Altras, but much better fit on my narrow ankles / heels and a proprietary Vibram that makes you feel like Spiderman on wet rocks and roots (I've seriously never experience grip like this outside of climbing shoes) They also have models with 0 drop, 3mm and 5mm. If you ever find yourself in Missouri I'd be happy to treat you to some lovely Ozark trails and a few not so bad beers after. I see one more from you waiting... heading there now.
I did indeed get myself some Topo Mtn Racer 3s, loving them so far. I'm going to try thrm out at 100k next weekend, if all goes well I'll stick with them. Durability will for sure be better than all of Altras, just need to check how blisters and hotspots do on a longer race. We'll see! Glad you're enjoying the videos, more to come!
Are you on Strava? It would be cool to be able to see some of the full routes for copying them purposes. Really cool to see another Ontario-based ultra runner grinding it out on the trails of my childhood!
No, not on Strava. In this case I followed the Bruce from Twiss Rd in Killbride to the top of the ski hill at Kelso and back, no side trails. I could add a full map at the end to show the route if people want to experience the video for themselves, no promises on the turtle though!
Great video! You have a way of 'sharing the story' and editing your videos such that I'm entertaining, enlightened, and inspired. Glad you're getting out there and training well! Loved the cinematic "saving the turtle" music. LOL! Good luck at Iron Stone 100k and Eastern States 100!
@@afewmominutes I feel like I have a lot to improve on but the best place to start is right where I am today and move forward from there. I'm looking forward to more of your content! It always brings a smile to my face ☺️
The shoe durability tips were really nice, i have been having a real struggle buying and ripping every damn shoe in the sides. Sometimes even at 150 KM +-
I have since switched to Topo MTN Racer 3, so far so good but it's only been a month. I'll know for sure after a 100k race in July, but seems much more durable than any of my Altras
I've been using any heel cushion from the pharmacy, no specific brand. I'd lift up the insert and place the heel cushion under it. Adds a bit of lift and extra cushion under the heel. However, with the newest Olympus I can't add it as the heel pocket is not very deep, so my ankle and heel almost pop out of the shoe with each step, feels like I'm wearing flip flops! So, I finally bought some Topos, same toespace as Altras but not zero drop, I think they'll last longer too. We'll see!
Great video, love your humor. Pre-race tips: read the whole race packet provided by the RD, maybe twice, maybe make some notes on the margins. When packing the drop bags, think about the future completely destroyed you, who will not want to rummage through the loose things in the bag, so organize things neatly so it'll be easy to recognize and get what you need there. Race tip: when approaching an aid station, make a plan for what you will do and get there, and minimize lingering -- these stops add up to hours sometimes if you are not careful.
Your videos are always so entertaining, worth watching, and full of advice and/or jokes. I love it!!! "I don't know if my shoes will fit her..." LOL! "Virtually indestructible" (poof!) Bwahahahahahaha!
Kinder capsule (or other tiny container) also useful for ibuprofen or tylenol. I keep a foil wrap in my car running kit pack. Works to keep you warm when you get back to your freezing car and to protect your seats from anything unpleasant that you bring back from your trail run…
It didn't! Unfortunately I had to withdraw as a medical precaution which turned out to be nothing! Horrible timing, but I pulled out prior to the race so I keep my lottery status going forward.
So fun, thank you. I mean, sorry you were hurt in the end (what was it anyway? Never mind, it’s probably here in the comments) but thanks so much for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it! An extreme case of compartment syndrome, basically a really bad shin splint which took a couple months to heal. All good now, looking forward to next year!
Glad you enjoyed it! I don't make videos frequent enough, been injured this year so no races, would have been some epic videos with Western States but I had to withdraw. I'll get more videos out next year, thanks!
Omg... subscribed at the "I'm not even very smart" part. This is my kinda channel!! I'm a relatively new back of the pack ultra runner with the huge goal of becoming a solid mid packer! 🙄 I absolutely love your attitude/ editing. Looking forward to binging your videos!
happy to be your 999th subscriber. This is how ultra vids should be made. Very much enjoyed this first viewing of A Few Mo Minutes production. Looking forward to catching up on your others.
Thanks Matt, glad you enjoyed it! Still learning as I make these so you'll notice the production value getting better (or worse!) compared to some of the first few videos, but I'm having fun! I'll put out another one soon, been a slow year for running with some injuries. Thanks!
