I'm going through this same thing. They tested my 9month old little boy yesterday for this because he has such a bad cough. It's just horrible to watch there little faces as they have a bad coughing fit. My son has all his vaccines and has never been late not even once but the doctor said they can still get it. The pattern means you cough, cough, cough, cough all of your air out and then the whooping sound is made when you take a sharp inspiration through an inflamed and enlarged larynx. I'm a pediatrician and yes that is what Pertussis sounds like. It is horrible and painful to even watch. I have intubated children with severe cases of this PREVENTABLE infection.
