This is also sorta misrepresenting Intel, being like haaay we be open and all, when you guys went out of your way to make this difficult as hell. It's like Oracle being all like "haay we have a free Linux version, arent we great giving back to the community?!? "when they're bound by GPL to do exactly that. Give us your GDSII files and lets see how open y'all really are

Which version of the UP2 board did you use for the demo? Your slides mention the Celeron n3350, but your howto link in the slide deck (now broken) references using it with the atom variant.
just use asrock h370 chipset board. eg with an h370p4 i could easily read/write bios spi region with flashrom and uefi vars are present in ifr and not protected by the bios.
