I see T-54/64’s, the most iconic army tank of the cold war, flounder and get destroyed with ease in the current war. They were designed to rush to the Rhine in 48hrs after nuclear war. I see the Russians squander their Soviet inheritance.
Back here again after quite some time. My mother in law had this Pitbull. He was old, chill, always lounging about, smelled terrible, but very friendly. Other than a few pets I never really got to know him. Then he got really sick and his health began deteriorating really fast. My MIL made the painful decision to euthanize him, and I was tasked with digging the grave. As I stood in front of the plot of dirt in the frigid NY winter with a pickaxe in one hand and a shovel in the other, I thought to myself, "This is going to take a long ass time. Might as well find a playlist." and that was my first time listening to this. Oddly enough, I felt like in some cosmic way, this dog and I really got to know each other as I stood out there alone breaking dirt with this playing in the background. I love the way the sax intro leads into 6eper (excuse the lack of alphabet), and I still listen to 6eper every now and again. It always reminds me of him, and the freezing yet serene lake side where we buried him.

In the Vietnam spring of 1984, during an exploratory survey aimed at planning new production facilities, a delegation of officials from the "Liberation" Agricultural Farm in Song Be province (now part of Binh Duong) embarked on a journey. Led by Comrade Nhan, a military colonel who had transitioned from his role as an official of the Binh Gia Regiment, they ventured upstream along the Dong Nai River into an untouched hill forest. Here, they were profoundly moved by a scene of great solemnity and sanctity. Suspended from the trunk of a tall tree were three parachute hammocks, each holding the skeletal remains of soldiers from the Liberation Army. Beside each set of remains lay a rusted AK-47 rifle and a pair of worn rubber sandals. The mysteries surrounding their ultimate sacrifice were unraveled by a letter, meticulously wrapped in plastic and tied securely to one of the hammocks. Despite the shaky and distorted handwriting, caused by severe injuries, starvation, and dehydration, the letter’s content was clear and deeply touching. The letter began with an introduction: "We are: 1. Le Hoang Vu, from Thai Binh; 2. Nguyen Chi, from Quang Ngai; 3. Tran Viet Dung, from Ho Chi Minh City, soldiers of Squad 1, 'Ky Con' Platoon, Binh Gia Regiment, Liberation Army of the South..." After enduring days of "agonizing hunger... and thirst that felt as if it would dry out our very intestines and liver..." and bearing numerous injuries, the three soldiers reached the forest. Exhausted and unable to continue, with no means of communication, they chose this serene forest as their final resting place. The letter detailed their last moments: "Having made the decision, we felt a strange relief. We became more lucid... We stopped here with the last of our strength to write a combat report for anyone who might find it... Each of us, facing death, used the last bit of our strength, indeed very little, to take turns writing. We chose this enduring young tree as a pillar, helped each other hang hammocks, agreed on our positions, and arranged our remaining items... We will die peacefully and calmly as we have lived, with vigour and serenity, dedicated to our cause." One by one, Le Hoang Vu and Nguyen Chi passed away. Tran Viet Dung wrote the final lines: "But then you urged me to finish the letter. Time is not on our side anymore. We feel our end approaching. Before we go, the letter must be preserved carefully to withstand the elements. The letter. The letter must reach the hands of those who live... If this letter reaches our comrades in the Binh Gia Liberation Army of the South or any other allied unit, please forward it to our superiors. Our squad in the 'Ky Con' Platoon has completed its mission. We hope to be remembered for having lived, fought, and died in a spring between heaven and earth, like hundreds of thousands of true Vietnamese who perished for our nation's survival. If we are discovered after 5 or 10 years, in a time of precious freedom, please convey our deepest gratitude to the living. Your existence, imbued with the true essence of liberty in a glorious era, renders our deaths fully meaningful. You work selflessly, as we fought selflessly for our beloved country, for the warmth and happiness of our people, and for an increasingly democratic and just society. Or if this letter is found 50 to 100 years later, by future generations, allow us to greet the socialist society of the future. Let us express our profound joy for the happiness and peace that will encompass the globe, making us mere particles of useful dust. And beyond, if this letter reaches inhabitants of distant stars, new friends among the planets, let our warmest greetings resonate through the cosmos. Spring in the forest of the Southeast. Vu-Chi-Dung."
Я родился уже после развала. В 90-х мама делила яблоко пополам, чтобы мы вместе могли покушать фрукты хоть какие-то. Родителям и дедушке с бабушкой задерживали зарплаты по несколько месяцев. Иногда выдавали сгущёнкой, к примеру. Нас обокрали. Украли заводы, которые были государственной собственностью, а значит, собственностью народа. Вся добавленная стоимость с торговли внутри и снаружи страны отправлялась в бюджет. А бюджет тратился на социальные нужды. А потом обворовали государство и бизнес обманным путем продавало стратегические заводы за 1 рубль. Заводы размером с город. У нас украли ресурсы страны. Когда в 90-е западные компании владели почти всеми месторождениями газа и нефти. И потом уже в 00-е правительство их выкупало у зарубежных компаний и отдавало нашим. Но ресурсы были в Советском Союзе государственные полностью, и не было исключений. И деньги с продажи полностью шли в бюджет, а не в карман. А еще в 1998 году был дефолт. После девальвация рубля. И деньги, которые копил дедушка на ремонт квартиры маме, обесценились так, что на них можно было купить только новую куртку. Эти деньги все где? У кого? Какая бы ни была экономика - капиталистическая или плановая, она строится на деньгах. И куда эти деньги ушли? Кому? Нас обокрали. И умерло людей в 90-е от разрухи больше, чем за всю Вторую мировую войну. А сколько новых конфликтов военных случилось во всем мире? Сколько смертей и разрушений случилось в других странах? НЕТ, любите вы или нет страну СССР, но развал Советского Союза - это катастрофа, соразмерная с мировой войной. Я и мои дети и их дети будут это помнить. И мы сделаем всё, чтобы достичь справедливости. И вернуть украденное будующие.
Тоже задаюсь этим вопросом. Не знаю, может у нас такие чувства, потому что мы окружны советским наследием? Вокруг остатки того, что было когда-то создано в СССР. Но тогда возникает вопрос, почему иностранцы пишут, что чувствуют то же самое 😅 вероятно всë решает музыка. Это очень хорошо заметно, если на какой-то криповый момент из ужастика наложить ну, допустим, музыку из смешариков или басс буст "районного прокурора"
