Preservation of the history of PlayStation 1 cracktros/intros. I aim to showcase high-quality videos of every patch ever released for the original Sony PlayStation (PSX).
⚠️ Please do not comment asking for pirated game or .iso file downloads. ⚠️ If you do comment, please write in English.
The terms I use in the video titles are: 🔸 Crack - means copy protection has been removed. 🔸 P/N - signifies PAL/NTSC video mode selector, which allows playing an NTSC game on a PAL console with correct colors. 🔸 +3 - refers to a trainer with three options, such as "Infinite Health." The number indicates how many cheat-options are provided.
I format the date in the video title as YYYY-MM-DD.

Huh. Looking that this one the thing talks about "Japan area" in the string seen in these .exe files in PS1 games. Also modified date of the one seen in the Intro Collection is 2000-03-11 so who knows. Also... ...I was able to successfully boot BOTH, PAL and NTSC-U/C versions using the collection tro and switching the ISO, so this is quite very confusing hmm. Either PAL release was leak'd early or some release dates are a bit wonky I don't even.
Regarding "This cracktro is part of the Paradox Intro Collection, it's named "MUPS_016.PSX" there." - ye sure aboot that? I don't recall this one being there and the one I have goes up to 14 with MUPS anyway.
Kek, intro for a Russian unofficial custom made adult (!) game. Is fun, Russia had liek 5 official PS1 releases, from the end of the PS1 lifespan. This is not one of them kek. Dunno if the original (heh) is PAL though, them got stuff for both videomodes over there.
There's something going on, at the intro in the video it says this one is for the US/NTSC yet the video title and description say PAL/English. Is this a misteak [sic]?
Regarding "This cracktro is part of the Paradox Intro Collection" I have to simply say "what". Either there is a mistake somewhere or I must have a different version of that (gotten through a wayback machine capture of Paradogs site) as I don't recall this one being there or anything Dynamite being there. In fact did check, no traces of that one.
You're absolutely right; that's not part of the Paradox Intro Collection. My mistake - thanks for bringing it to my attention! I've updated the description accordingly. 👍
Regarding "It's unclear to me whether the patch is for "Persona 2: Tsumi - Innocent Sin" or "Persona 2: Eternal Punishment"." I'd say this is Eternal Punishment. That's the only Persona 2 I found US to know and the .ppf itself has the string "ETERNAL PUNISHMENT" in it and I'd say is clear is the USA version of that. Couldn't find any product ID thingies this time. But still.
@@ps1cracktrohistorian A predb name is basically the title a scene group gives when they release a new cracked game or software. They use IRC bots to claim the first release. The predb name is essentially that release name (e.g. Wipeout_3_PAL_CRACKED-PARADOX).

Took a look at the original .ppf of this available elsewhere (Console Copy World) and went through the .nfo and .ppf trying to find anything, and eventually found strings in the PPF, "SLPS-01854" and "KUUBO", which likely makes the game "Kuubo Senki" (or "Kubo Senki") the one this one is for. And that seems to be some WWII game.
Mission completed sir… I remember standing in front of ps1 looking at this intro in 2000, can’t even read what it’s written (I didn’t understand English)
I don't often see Finnish in these things but! In around 2:29 the text says basically "DRINK CHRISTMAS GIFTS" [next line] "WELL IN ADVANCE" [next line] "BUSINESS TO THE RISE". For those who would like to know what is going on. Text in intro is also missing proper alphabet, all this åäö business, replaced with ao and stuff, though only one spot would need any.
This one is interesting as I tried to boot this up with every region Crash Bandicoot 3 through Paradox Intro Collection (games do boot up if one changes the ISO or disc if real hardwares during the intro) and none of them worked. INTERESTING (brief)case, this one. Somehow I'm just reminded of that some cracktros make use of L2 and R2 to change the videomode (you don't hear this info very often), like the Paradox Intro Collection menu system also has that feature (while also likely detecting what type to use by default since it defaulted to PAL on my PAL PS1). This feature is of course better observed with real hardware and even more so with a CRT.
I noticed that the option to switch the intro video mode using L2 and R2 can be found in most cracktros made by AVH and Icarus, as well as in the early cracktros created by Zweifeld.
Hmhm. According to my own notes I've encountered this L2/R2 feature in some Lightforce tro's, a few MUPS tro's, a few TRSI tro's and the rest is Paradox tro's. This with messing around with the PDX Intro Collection thingy. Some intros even output stuff to the debug output which is not seen to the end user, though there's tools for seeing that.
Unfortunately, this cracktro does not appear to function on any PlayStation emulator. If you have an interest in emulation and possess coding knowledge, please address this problem in the DuckStation emulator and submit a pull request. You can find the link to the github repository in the video description.

@@rdkmy Well... Avocado and ePSXe do not crash; however, the cracktro is not emulated correctly. It looks like the screen is squashed and only half of it is updated.
@@rdkmy I even found an issue in the Avocado repository where someone reported that this cracktro isn't emulated correctly. See: github.com/JaCzekanski/Avocado/issues/97
@@ps1cracktrohistorian The screen being squashed to half its width in Avocado and ePSXe only happens while running under the NTSC BIOS, but not the PAL BIOS.
I remember this being faster. Fiddled with the playback speed and 1.1x sounded correct to me. I'm Australian, so maybe the version we had was faster or something?
To my knowledge, the issue with music playback speed is linked to a bug in a music player called Hitmod. In version 1.4, Hitmod played music too fast when running in NTSC mode. This problem was fixed in version 1.5, which ensured music plays at the correct tempo no matter the video mode. Most, if not all, of the cracktros created by Mr. Bengali and Chocobo, both members of Paradox, use Hitmod 1.4 and have music playback issues in NTSC mode.
@@ps1cracktrohistorian That's very interesting. Thank you for posting this by the way. I used to play Spyro 3 when I was about 5 years old, and this song would always play. I thought this was actually the theme song of the game and was surprised that it was missing when I purchased a legitimate copy. It's super nostalgic and brings back memories.
I really don't understand why some cracking companies would feel the need to put an NSFW cracktro on a game that's intended for children. It's just NOT a good idea, ESPECIALLY when you consider the possibility that there were probably a lot of parents back then who probably either couldn't afford or were too cheap to buy their kids PS1 games, and so they would usually have to rely on burned copies that they either burn themselves or buy for 50 cents from some crackhead on the streets. EDIT: no pun intended on the "crack" head part lol
Nsfw image on game for kids for a cracktro is wild bro 💀 not gonna imagine the parents that got this type of pirated games and saw this screen at the time ☠️
Cracks of games were initially done to share amongst members of a warez group, or even between families of said members, so they spread all of the vulgarity they feel like saying or showing (Cracktros are essentially virtual graffitis in a way); It just so happens that these cracked games get spilled to the public via BBS at the time by one member of the group, which then gets downloaded, burned and sold by bootleggers, and thus you have scenarios like this.
I had to censor the background due to RU-vid guidelines. In the original, there is a nude woman's breast that has been obscured here. Anyone interested in the original can follow the Demozoo link in the video description.

The music was featured quite frequently in "Utility Dream". Was it from this diskmag? If you check out the Demozoo link in the pinned comment, you'll find an overview of the productions where it was used.
@@ps1cracktrohistorian Yes it looks familiar! Admittedly this was back in the 90’s but the color scheme in the screenshots rings a bell. I dont think I ever read that diskmag just used to fire it up for the music 😃 Edit: it was actually a utilities disk rather than a diskmag it seems!
Hey bro it would be cool if you separate the videos by countries i could care less about the ones of murikha or freakin denmark and it is very hard to find the ones in ES...if you do ill suscribeee😊
ESTO ES INCREÍBLE BROOOO LLEVO AÑOS BUSCANDO ESTA PANTALLA DE CARGA POR SU SOUNDTRACK!!! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 THANKS YOU! ❤ P/D: Está pantalla de selección de PAL/NTSC era de un juego de PS1 llamado C12 Final Resistance 🤙🏻
Thank you very much! I never thought the channel would ever reach 1000 subscribers. I hope you (plural) continue to enjoy many more videos that I will be publishing.
I like when the page says that there "+8 trainers" but when you look at it, theres only 3 and the 5 rest are just random messages and the last one it just for the intro. lol
