Ohana means family!!!! And this Hawaii foodie family loves to travel, cook, and eat our way through every adventure!
Our travels throughout the Caribbean, Europe, Asia, Central, and South America have given us some amazing adventures and we love to share all of those food and travel experiences with you.
We live on the island of O'ahu in Hawai'i and love supporting locally-owned businesses and activities.
While our families hail from Italy and Korea, we have been fortunate to feast on foods from all over the world. Our passion for travel, beaches, cruising, and food was inherited by our Keiki (kids) and they love to explore lots of countries, but more importantly, they love to eat!
Every day is a foodie adventure for this ohana. So....join us as our Ohana eats, cruises, and shares all of our foodie adventures with you.
Thank you so much fir watching. Old Lahaina and Te Au Moana would be the two I recommend in Maui. Make sure you try to book ASAP bc they do fill up pretty quickly.
There is no rum in an Italian Cream Cake. The Rum Baba is completely different. Rum Baba is a small yeast cake saturated in syrup made with hard liquor, usually rum and sometimes filled with whipped or pastry cream.
The rum is either real rum(my grandfather used real) or rum extract thar you mix with simple syrup and put on the sponge cake directly before adding your cream in between each layer.
@@CruisingfoodiesYep, I will give it definitely a try. Thank you so much for the recipe. ❤ Cream gives me great memories to a cake of my Mummy 🌈 - called "punch ring" - because cake was baked in a ring shaped cake tin and she used real rum. And I lost recipe. So, now I have it back. So thankful ❤❤❤❤
Here to explain difference between cream cake (with rum) and rum baba. Rum baba is here in French-Polynesia a very common dessert, as part of history of motherland France. The modern baba au rhum (rum baba), small yeast cake with dried fruit and soaked in rum, was invented in the Rue Montorgueil in Paris in 1835 or before. So, if you order in France, Europe or here in French-Polynesia a rum baba, you will get the original small yeast cake and no sponge cream cake (with rum). Greetings from Moorea 🌴 🏖 😎 🇵🇫 🇫🇷 🇪🇺
Is September a good time to do this Cruise? Because I heard there can be some hurricanes in this time. So I‘m really unsure about that. Greeting from Germany😊
Aloha Melissa. September is a really nice time. Yes hurricane season stretches into early November but they will divert if seas are rough. The temperatures are nice in September and October. And Mahalo for watching
Thank you so much for watching. Absolutely, happy to make recommendations. I have a list of places here in this video. We rented a vehicle and did a bunch of exploring. Hope this helps and gives you some great places to visit. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gtrf4n1jRb4.htmlsi=ufIr6xFNXvn-_LEF
Thank you so much for watching. And yes we were able to rent a car in each location. You do have to take an Uber to the airport in order to pick up the car. There are a couple locations that were closer however those were substantially more money so that's why we chose to rent from the airport. If you get a chance check out our full video, I'll add the link
So glad you’re recommending diy tour because we also only have 5 hours in the evening. But did you actually have the time to go to Butchart gardens? On their website it says it takes about an hour by cab from the port 😅
If you leave immediately , it's about a 25-30 min drive in each direction. You would definitely have to watch your time closely but you can do it for sure.
I absolutely loved your video. And I love Oahu. I've been there five times now. Twice for business, working with military healthcare, and then coming back for vacations. I'm seventy five and celebrating my birthday on the Pride of America in October. Coming in a day early, but then staying 3 days after we dock. And flying back to Los Angeles to visit a friend then back home to Baltimore a week after that. I'm hoping to come back in April or May and spend several weeks. I would be working remote. I usually rent at Waikiki Banyon through VRBO but if you know of any one who is traveling a willing to sublet for a reasonable price App( cause I'm still paying rent here) Please let me know! I love Hawaii. If I could move there and just live full time, I would definitely pick up, pack up and be on my way! Every time I step off of a plane and land in honolulu, I feel like I can breathe. When I walk on the beach in Waikiki or North Shore. I feel such peace. Bless you and your travels, and thank you for the great videos
Awe thank you so much for watching. You will have a blast on the Pride. It was the perfect floating hotel to see so much in a week. We loved the overnights and think you will too. I'll def let you know if I hear of any open spots for next year. That's awesome that you're traveling back again. Will you stay 30 days in april?
I'm starting to check it out and see if I can find somebody who wants to sublet for a month or two if they are traveling. That way, I can actually work remote with my job from Hawaii. It would be like heaven. I worked remote last year for two weeks from Oahu but I'd love to stay longer. Thank you again for all the info about the Cruise.
Thanks for your great information. We are heading waikiki next week. Just want to ask is the breakfast buffet open yet in Hilton waikiki village ?thanks
Are you kidding me ? They don’t even have to mount or dismount ?? That’s not riding but for people who don’t know what they are doing I guess that’s for the best. Beautiful trail tho !
There's an area where you stand up on a walkway to get on n off. It's definitely for people that are learning to ride. You can go to polo for more riding
Great tips thank you sooo much. I want to pack in a carry on and my backpack but. I did a sample pack and it didn’t fit lol. I will try using the air release bag because my packing cube was just huge! Lol i will be going to Alaska in a month now!! I am super cold natured and don’t want to be freezing the whole time.
Hello thank you for your great video!! What time of year were you there ? I will be there 1st week of July 2024 Edit - never mind i saw you said end of June so just a week before we will be there but who knows what the weather will be !
Yes we were there the last week of June and the weather was nice. We had the early docking 7am-1pm and it was chilly for us but we live on O'ahu lol. It's a cute little area and peek under the stones, sooo many starfish
How does it work for Food Republic and La Cucina as far as what you get? My understanding is normally it's an appetizer, main, and dessert. At a typical Japanese restaurant i might get two or three rolls. And for Italian, can one get antipasti, pasta, and a main? Great presentation of the restaurants. Thanks.
Thank you so much for watching. In regards to restaurants like Food Republic, they told us to pick 4 dishes each. It was great bc it was plenty. And yes for la cucina, it was app, entree, dessert. My friends got both hot n cold app so soup n salad.
You're welcome. We are going on a transatlantic cruise out of Miami to Europe for 2 weeks on NCL Bliss and they gave us 3 specialty restaurants for free so we wanted to narrow down which ones are the best ones, and u helped us figure out by hust watching your video. Thank you
@@enrickguerra1594 the transatlantics r great. Lots of rest time. If the weather is good, check out the vibe beach club, it's a nice little getaway while onboard
Sounds good and that's what we are gonna do then. Let me ask u this them. We love to dance latin music at the mojitos bar. Do they have a latin band playing every night ?
HISTORY OF ALFREDO DI LELIO CREATOR IN 1908 OF “FETTUCCINE ALL’ALFREDO” (“FETTUCCINE ALFREDO”), NOW SERVED BY HIS NEPHEW INES DI LELIO, AT THE RESTAURANT “IL VERO ALFREDO” - “ALFREDO DI ROMA” IN ROME, PIAZZA AUGUSTO IMPERATORE 30 With reference to your article I have the pleasure to tell you the history of my grandfather, who is the creator of “Fettuccine all’Alfredo” (“Fettuccine Alfredo”) in 1908 in the “trattoria” run by his mother Angelina in Rome, Piazza Rosa (Piazza disappeared in 1910 following the construction of the Galleria Colonna / Sordi). This “trattoria” of Piazza Rosa has become the “birthplace of fettuccine all’Alfredo”. More specifically, as is well known to many people who love the “fettuccine all’Alfredo", this famous dish in the world was invented by Alfredo Di Lelio concerned about the lack of appetite of his wife Ines, who was pregnant with my father Armando (born February 26, 1908). Alfredo Di Lelio opened his restaurant “Alfredo” in 1914 in Rome and in 1943, during the war, he sold the restaurant to others outside his family. In 1948 Alfredo Di Lelio decided to reopen with his son Armando his restaurant in Piazza Augusto Imperatore n.30 "Il Vero Alfredo" (“Alfredo di Roma”), whose fame in the world has been strengthened by his nephew Alfredo and that now managed by me, with the famous “gold cutlery” (fork and spoon gold) donated in 1927 by two well-known American actors Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks (in gratitude for the hospitality). See the website of “Il Vero Alfredo” for “Alfredo’s franchising in the world”. I must clarify that other restaurants "Alfredo" in Rome do not belong and are out of my brand "Il Vero Alfredo - Alfredo di Roma". The brand "Il Vero Alfredo - Alfredo di Roma" is present in Mexico with a restaurant in Mexico City and a trattoria in Cozumel on the basis of franchising relationships with the Group Hotel Presidente Intercontinental Mexico. The restaurant “Il Vero Alfredo” is in the Registry of “Historic Shops of Excellence of the Municipality of Roma Capitale. Best regards Ines Di Lelio
I really enjoyed your video and found it very helpful. We are booked for next Oct. to celebrate our Anniversary & 50th bday, coming from the East Coast. I am seeing an uptick in negative reviews concerning the ship & food, and now starting to get nervous with our decision. I will continue to monitor the reviews. Thanks again for all the valuable information you provided in your video.
Thank you so much for watching we really appreciate that. And yes I will say that the specialty dining was definitely very good it was consistent with other Norwegian ships. The buffet is definitely smaller so it doesn't have all of the options that the larger newer ships offer however it's still had the basics that you would need. I truly feel that on this particular ship because it is older and smaller and does not have all the bells and whistles we viewed it as more of a floating hotel with the convenience of 24-hour food versus an experience you would have on the Norwegian Bliss or Encore or a larger fancier ship and there is no other way to hit as many ports in one week and get to see as much as we did without being on board so we appreciate that a lot
Wow I didn't realize the Hilton was that huge. I just always saw the Rainbow Tower. We used to go to that lagoon when I was a kid to swim. Awesome organized and informative video, Gina!
@@Cruisingfoodies Wow, get hitched, tattoo your wife's name on your chest and all you need is a divorce attorney's office in there and you're set. J/K 🤣
It was actually invented by an Italian in 1907 or 1908 and later gave it its name. Alfredo Di Lelio, owner and cook of a small restaurant in Rome, actually only wanted to save his wife. After the birth of their son, she had no appetite, became ill, lost weight and collapsed - until Alfredo put the high-calorie pasta in front of her. She thrived, the recipe was added to the menu and the legendary story could begin.
@@Cruisingfoodies Additional information (btw I'm European): A world famous pasta meal - but the Romans don't like it at all. In Rome you don't find the meal on menus - apart from the two Alfredo establishments - as well as in original Italian cookbooks (in Italy) no recipe. For the Romans and most Italians, the pasta meal would simply be too fat. Romans and most Italians prefer Cacio e Pepe (with Tonnarelli or Spaghetti) - the real traditional pasta meal of Rome.
@monikaliebold4225 absolutely. I tell people all the time you will not find this in Italy. My family is in Abruzzo and Napoli and it's not something we have unless usually someone isn't feeling great and we use butter and cheese w smaller pasta. Each Pais is very different
@@CruisingfoodiesAnd I miss our long weekends (12 times a year) in my beloved Florence and our vacations in Tuscany so much (we moved down to French-Polynesia). But we have on Moorea the best Italian restaurant (distance to Florence 16591 km / 10.309 miles) in South Pacific at all with great Italian food (pasta, pizza, veal etc) - Casa Vincenzo - the best help against homesickness for Europe.
@monikaliebold4225 oh that's so awesome. You are not far from me. We live in Hawai'i. We have a couple chefs here from Bari who bring some goods here from Italy like burrata and good olive oil and balsamic.
If they were smart enough they will keep the SuperFerry and definitely they will bring more superferry boats. It will be so much fun for local residents to load up their cars/trucks and hop on the ferry for a long weekend at another island. That’s what me and my family in Washington State do on every long holiday weekend….. Ferry ⛴️ is good so locals can take their cars/trucks on it with all the supplies they need for that long holiday weekend camp….. BUT crooks politicians will always think about themselves instead of Hawaii residents. That’s why hard lol
Yes I loved the ferry when we had it here. It's a shame they took it away. Also ashame we can't get a more modern cruise ship here. That would be nice.
Thank you so much for this! we booked on a whim to get the sale price. Then we looked at comments - yikes! we are a bit concerned. But this video gives me hope. Question - from the airport, how do we get to the port? and about how much would it cost? We are arriving the night prior. Thinking about staying in a hotel near airport. Any hotel/area you can recommend? Thank you so much!!! 🙏🏻
I really feel the best way to look at it as a floating hotel but not to compare it to the newer modern cruise ships bc it just doesn't have the bells and whistles. But it's a great way to see a lot in a week. I highly recommend coming a day or two early bc we watch people miss the ship every week. I would say look into the ala Moana Hotel. Feel free to email me and I can send you a bunch. Also the uber/Lyft is great. It's about 10 min away
Nice video. We are doing the cruise from October 26-November. I wish I had thought of doing it during our stay but put all our extra time into the week before the cruise. So we head back on the day of the cruise return to port. One thing if you use the NCL to provide you air you can only have two days prior to and after the cruise. I was at Pearl Harbor for 4 years while I was in the Navy but my wife had not been to Hawaii so I figured now was the time, though Honolulu has definitely changed since I left in 1986.
Awe well I hope you have a wonderful time. And yes you are totally right only 2 days before or after or both. But you will have a fabulous trip I'm sure. That's awesome you were stationed at pearl Harbor. The food scene has definitely changed and there's a few great spots right by pearl Harbor when you visit. Let us know if you need any recommendations. Happy cruising
