Minis3D, from Spain is another excellent choice. Even the most obscure named characters or monsters have some model done... and some of his alternatives.. wow, stunning stuff.
@telinoz1975 I've purchased many sculpts from him as well. Check out my Zargon's Army video. I showcase some Fimir Warriors and Chaos Warriors from Minis3D.
Just found your channel, awesome intro my brotha! The story of your discovery of the game and the footage from back in the day is epic. I got HQ as a kid as well and it truly changed EVERYTHING for me moving foreword. Just as most, it was a gateway to rpg’s and gaming in general. I just subbed to the channel and look foreword to the vids you put out when you get the time! Love from California - K
I give the wizard/elf a potion card when they search an un-noted alchemist bench room for treasure if they so choose. I let them each restore a used spell once in an un-noted sorcerer's table room (and if the wizard is already full he can draw a random spell scroll). ROTDM has its own rules for these of course. I also allow an un-noted Weapons Rack give a random Equipment card draw for each hero if they wish instead of drawing from the treasure deck. an un-noted treasure chest is simply a treasure card (but Zargon can always fix those ahead of time... there are sadly several unmarked treasure chests sprinkled throughout the official expansions of the past, though AH seems dedicated to fixing these moving forward). just recently I noticed one in Crypt of Perpetual Darkness.
Rise of the Dread Moon added furniture searches (GenCon 2023 I saw one of the demoers at Avalon Hill's booth using an even more complex method) as does First Light. the draft notes for Mage of the Mirror shows that this was discussed and even planned back in '92, but never officially implemented until then. If you allow the same hero to search multiple pieces of furniture in the same room, it can really slow down gameplay, just for a little bit of extra suspense, so use wisely. but just making a room with undocumented furniture "special" gets my vote as a quick and easy enhancement. remember, Zargon doesn't have to slavishly follow this, he can always make a room that is an exception, regardless of what the questbook says... if it'll improve the experience.
I haven't made my way to Dread Moon yet, but I'll check it out. I allow one search per room and furniture item, not per hero. If a room is searched, it's searched.
The Monk is my favorite of the new heroes created by Avalon Hill (and their guest writers). I also like the Bard (as a Pirate or Cleric), then the Rogue, then the Knight (a good character, if a little boring to actually play... but some like boring... that's why the Barbarian is still so great!).
the Rogue is pretty fun to play even if he is a bit weak overall. I altered the "multi-attack" rule from Avalon Hill's intentions... I just make the attacks against one target a big roll... and the victim defends at the end, no "unblockable" attacks. However, I make an exception for the Rogue's multi-attack.. I think without it he is a little TOO weak. I think the Rogue is more fun to play than the Knight (though the knight is easier), but not quite as good as the Monk who is my favorite of the new heroes (though I also enjoy the Bard quite a bit, though I change him to a Pirate or Cleric... I don't mind that he's an Orc or Half-Orc whatever you think he is)
I need to go to The Bard more often. He's been neglected in my dungeon. I imagine him as a Orc Pirate as well. I thought that was implied, or maybe it's just me.
this character has gotten rarer... I am troubled by the fact that Avalon Hill promised not to repeat the "Guardian Knight" situation but then have allowed this hero collection to largely fall out of print. here's hoping (and you can help promote his cause on social media to avalon hill and hasbro gaming!) the Rogue Heir of Elethorn makes a re-appearance in future expansions (much like the Knight did in Rise of the Dread Moon). no more "limited run" exclusives... HeroQuest in retail for the foreseeable future for the people!
playing with a new generation, with your kids, must be awesome! a lot of fans are doing that, and it's great to see (not just with HeroQuest, but other things you loved as a youngster)
some Zargons are already overwhelmed with bookkeeping... others are bored and want something to do. you find the system that works for you. I always love to hear about new suggestions! The Japanese HeroQuest simply gave out more gold and allowed heroes to gamble with that gold between quests to increase their BP maximums. it also slowly complexified the magic over the course of several quests. adding more complexity to the game over time as the players become more competent makes a lot of sense, if you're going to do it. but starting with fresh heroes (even if they're controlled by the same human players) also makes sense for more expansions (other than the ones from 1992!)
@HeroQuestFans I did not know that about the Japanese version. Actually, I don't know much about the other verisons of HQ. That sounds like a fun video idea!
the general (modern, official) quest difficulty is not so extreme that one really "needs" leveling up for that purpose (greater hero survival for less frustration), but it does create additional interest and will further encourage players not to let their heroes die (if it would impede progress). the exceptions are BQP (Frozen Horror) and EQP (Mage of the Mirror) which are extreme difficulty and make for a long slog (unless you modify the quests to blunt that difficulty/length)... THESE are what truly benefit from an upgrade system (or else heroes who have simply maxed out their equipment and saved a lot of gold and potions from previous adventures)
@HeroQuestFans In my mind, I like the idea of character progression. I played a lot of Final Fantasy III as a kid and loved it when the characters leveled up after a battle. I guess that's where this idea stems from.
the issue with many homebrew advancement systems is that you may not have the same group going through dozens of quests together. my solution was to simply base it on quest completion, but also allow those character sheets to exchange hands, so you could pick up a character that had been used before even if it was your first time at the table, or for a one-off guest player. we regularly do multi-session plays on the stream so it's a little unique, but can we drop characters in mid-quest (and replace them with a torch icon if they are absent the next session without someone to take over). we record our live games and I take pictures of the board/cards to pick up where we left off.
@HeroQuestFans That's what we do. We create a character and allow anyone to drop them in the dungeon and continue playing them. Allowing everyone to bounce around with different heroes between quests.
@whiterabbit2029 Nothing beats the original! But Avalon Hill has captured the spirit of the game and continues to give us solid toy factor with each expansion. Bring on Wizards of Morcar Von Zargon!
Fantastic job on the narrative and lore on the game and the Monsters! The Monsters at the end is a bit jarring as the difference of model looks from the current vs old. (Except the Fimiars, they look awesome!) Overall I cannot wait for your next video!

@@TheFair-WeatherMan I agree. I introduced my kids to it when they were young. Now I’m looking forward to playing with the grandkids when they’re old enough.
Started to follow you buddy great work love heroquest myself from the early 90s too the new 2021 version it’s really been amazing for myself.. playing with good friends introducing too new ones and getting me back into painting minis again.
For the same reasons as you, I swapped Sir Ragnar with the Warlock, which means buying the extra box right away, but whatever, I’m pulling out all the stops for my daughter and now she has a little girl hero
@KyleLambing Got it. I'm going to research some game playing Tips for a future video. Things like battling through doorways, Monster movements, ect. Stay tuned!
I don t know the heroic 32s are so different than the standars they dont really blend in, Actually Minis3d also makes non heroic versions of all this minis that in my opinion blend much better with the new system
Great vídeo! The mercenary ogres in the original expansion game have only 4 Body points. So what I would do, to solve this is to increase at least one or two points to the ogre expansion "Against the Horde of Ogres", and I would put less life points to the goblin. For example: 3 body points, but you can only wear a shield and helmet, and you cannot carry weapons with two hands. His ability to move through monsters and heroes, to move before and after attacking, and his 3 defense dice should give him plenty of options to survive despite his low body points, and makes him a much more tactical ally.
Cool, I actually was given many of them figures as a gift by a close relative but I wasn't given any bases with them so many of them don't stand up properly. It's a small project I have been completely putting off. I normally don't paint my minis but for these figures I like your idea of painting them to match the base game's color system. Now that I know the seller from your video, perhaps I can finish these up.
@yodaflyz Glad I could give you some motivation to finish. I believe he sells the bases separately as well. You could always buy some generic black ones from Amazon. These work great for me. Evemodel MB325 40pcs Round... www.amazon.com/dp/B08CB589KL?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Yes, they are in style of HQ 90' and they are beautiful, speculations say that AH could make this minis for Heroscape but I belive Heroscape works with a different scale
Great video. I too bought that same set from the same folks. Great quality. Could you add links to the paint. I often see people recommending this or that and my head just starts to spin when I go looking on Amazon.
