Make sure the warm bath covers tummy and her vent/bum. I use a bucket as less water is needed that way. I put olive oil in the hen's vent too and gove a calcium supplement orally. A very gentle massage (sort of stroking rather than pushing, as you don't want to break the egg) can also help the egg pass. I will gently stroke/massage abdomen and around vent while hen is in the bath. After a good soak in the bath let her rest somewhere warm and quiet. High quality feed and some vitamins, and continue to supplement calcium for a week or two.
I just had to cull my hen. It was her 1st egg and she prolapsed and tore the prolapse. It was a horrific injury. Vet and friend both agreed she had no chance of recovery 😢
Calcium citrate, quiet dark space that's between 90-100° and humid, warm baths for 10-20 min every couple hours, lubricate the vent, be really careful with any massaging because if you accidentally break the egg inside her it is almost guaranteed to kill her due to the bacteria. Good luck y'all
I gave my hen her bath in a bucket because the water needs to go pretty high and cover the vent/bum. Plus you don't need as much warm water that way. She rested her beak on the side of the bucket and closed her eyes and enjoyed it 😊
If you make the water high enough, they’ll just tuck their little feet up and float🥰 most of mine relax better that way, and I even had one take a little nap while floating
I just did this last night. Very warm water up their wings, massage the belly, grease the vent, 20 minutes in the water Shes okay 👍 I looked it up on utube. Oh, and She loved the very warm water. ❤

@@mommajefferson feeding layer crumbles with oyster shell…. We may have caused this with too much scratch grain treat? They also free range about 2-4 hours a day. They have destroyed my garden🤣. We got the egg to pass and have her insides back inside her. We have her in the grow out pen so the flock doesn’t cannibalize her. She was bleeding yesterday. It was her first egg and it was huge! She is an olive egger and the egg we got her to pass was 3” long and 4” around. She is 24 weeks old. Poor thing, he sibling lays small eggs. Not sure if it was just a thing? She won’t survive long if this happens again. For now we’re doing what we can. The neighbor said his chicken had the same and the veterinary clinic charged him $500!😳 it’s just a chicken….😥
You can massage her abdomen and gently very gently message it out ders videos on it I have one now that can't support her head great or legs , but I've check up her vent too inches and she ain't eggbound hope she recovers
my grandfather was a dairyman, he would say cod liver will deliver but caster is faster(he used it to help deliver calfs) think it would apply to hens to.
This happened to my hen today. Warm sea salt/oatmeal bath, Praise & Worship songs for 20mins. Took her out, put light amount of Vaseline around her vent. As soon as I took her out, a beautiful green/blue egg was released 🙌🏽🙏🏽
Sometimes the egg won’t come out because there’s not enough calcium in your chicken to shell the egg it’s not because it’s stuck so if you put her in a separate quiet place with food water and some oyster shells or whatever form of calcium you give your chickens she will eat it and by the next day should pass the egg. If your chicken is all puffed up neck all scrunched in and not pecking around much that’s a huge sign she’s not doing good and most likely egg bound.
Im dealing with this now and came to RU-vid for help! 2 crushed up tums, a 20 min warm Epsom salt bath, and 3ccs of olive oil into the vest to help it pass. I’m hoping this works! I hope ur girl is ok!
I was raised on a 25,000 chicken ranch. I'm so sorry but really no cure because it usually led c to what we call blow outs killing the chicken. But research it cause things change
I'm no expert, but I have researched it because we have chickens and want to be prepared for any situation. As I understand it, an egg-bound hen has about 3 Days to live if it's not remedied. If you don't want a vet bill and you want to try to save the chicken yourself, you'll want to lube up the vent. You could use cooking oil KY Jelly petroleum jelly, etc. You can use a plastic baby medicine syringe to penetrate the vent and apply oil directly to where the egg is stuck. Maybe even use a gloved finger to try to work the oil around the egg.
THE HEN IS LACKING CALCIUM CRUSH UP TUMS AND SPRINKLE ON FOOD OR MAKE SURE THEY HAVE PLENTY OF OYSTER SHELL. Yeah, this is what a vet will do. Or try to get the tip of a long syringe 💉 without needle of course with water and irrigate the vent and that gentle pressure may coax it out. Can you break the egg that's stuck? Gently?
My hen has been egg bound for quite some days. At first I thought she'll day, got an egg but it had been from some other hen. Now I realise she's egg bound. I massaged her, it's now near her vent. Gave her some calcium granules, but she isn't trying to lay it. What to do
