You will def need the larger reservoir. The tomato plant by itself will drink that reservoir empty in in less than 4 days when it matures, then add the cucumber and and you will be filling it every other day. It would be nice if Rise developed a 15-20gal reservoir because even their 9gallon is not enough if you're growing leafy greens and especially cucumber! Congrats on the great deal you got on that.
ya, right now it summer so just using them to start off plants or clones and am transplanting outside / for winter will get a bigger Reservoir for sure... thanks for feedback
@@rompstar ok , I have enough a few speakers may be this one for another room , based on what I have read you have to match carefully what kind of amp is best and what do you mean by hacking the tweeter Is there just one version of the se 14 ?
@@hamzatatta952 i designed my own tweeter baffle and 3d printed allowing me to mount different tweeters... see - www.ebay.com/itm/125945208107?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=2OZx_Gj6S06&sssrc=2051273&ssuid=2OZx_Gj6S06&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
I had that exact model. I burned over 500 CDs with it until the record side would identify all CDs as a blank CD-RW. But that took over 5 years to happen. By the way, CD-RWs have changed since that recorder was built. All the ones I have play just fine but I can't record on them anymore with anything new. So modern RWs might not work on that. Nice to see one working after so long. 👍👍
@@rompstar Yes I remember about that. I was referring to the rewritable Digital Audio CD-RWS. A much more rare find these days. I hope you have fun with it.
Hi 😜 i have the same speakers. The have a wonderful imaging and staging. If you want to see the crossover and more ? 8:11 Btw they need space to get air to breath. Around more then 18 in from back wall. The front bafle have a special groove for fabric cover. Only fabric with a kind of strap around. All parts are top quality too. ❤
who are you, did you sell me these speakers ? // system came with one original tweeter and one improvised tweeter that somehow magically worked without the wires even being connected... my solution is better and solves for some of the original design limitations too.
Great video. I live in southern NJ. Today I picked up the exact same model, Thiel CS1. Both tweeters are not working. I unscrewed them and the wires are connected securely. Can I test ohms while wired? I want to find out if it is the tweeters or crossover. Please share your thoughts. thanks.
Hi. Congratulations on the restoration of this beauty. It looks stunning. I have one of these too. But mine the stacking spindle doesn't work on the second record. The fisrt record plays until the end but when the second record supposed to be played automatically the tonearm stops and the platter stops spinning. Do you know how to fix that? Thanks for your video.
I am a happy and satisfied owner of a pair of EPOS 14. I bought them in the early nineties. Unfortunately, one bass driver no longer works properly. My speaker didn't get damaged by itself, but because of someone's carelessness.. Can it be serviced or replaced, and where? Otherwise, they are excellent speakers, today on the market anything similar costs incomparably more and the question is what you bought, how long will it last and when will you get tired of it, so I would be very happy to try to save them if possible.
Ya even with the old belt it sounded good, just a bit slow / so after it comes we shall see… I think I paid like $4.95 for it at thrift store, it was cheap, no one makes tape players anymore anyways, so we only have older choices…
@@rompstar There are some new decks around, from Teac, that's one that I know of. But they no longer have Dolby NR. There are also boomboxes available with cassette players, but they use the cheap Tanashin transport, so not really worth buying.
@@hermanmunster3358 far too few, kind of an old way // vinyl just outsold CDs, but CD also coming back, mostly because of better DACs that bring them back to life ;)
I recommend this coming out of Portugal, used them before and post came quietly, more quickly than within the US which makes zero sense… www.ebay.com/itm/235071217726?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=_7R0RU3ES0G&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=2OZx_Gj6S06&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
These speakers creep up on you. When one first sits down and listens they sound flat and boring. Nothing seems to stand out, no WOW factor. But as time goes by, the tracks are played and the listener relaxes into the MUSIC they start to hear it and understand. Pace. Rhythm, Timing. Cohesiveness. Detail. Vocals. Piano. Strings. The naturalness of it all. The midrange out of these speakers (where most of the listening is done) is outstanding. Hard to beat.
True that!! I recently got a better amp (B&K Ex-442) and preamp NAD 1155 and external DAC, Schiit BIFROST - and man CD sound so good, I am collecting them again… and Vinyl sound amazing too, if the recording was done right, I would say better than CD even!! Cheers!!!
@@rompstar the kind of speakers that reward the listener as the electronics are upgraded. Maybe down to having no crossover to get in the way except a capacitor to protect the tweeters, and custom drivers to match the cabinet design.
@@rayhunter7371 the tweeters are custom on mine, I designed my own baffle 3d printed and put in a new tweeter, and actually I can design them for many tweeters as long as they fit the space ;) perks of having busy hands
Pretty darn cool, seems like those speakers can do a real good job in a variety of systems, acoustic environments, different stereo audio, surround sound or home theater uses.
Same here / no issues in the ES11 or 12 that I own.. the ES14 a bit different story, but I have designed baffles for the tweeters and installed different ones and it sound a awesome…
fyi - I have printed Version 3 - which sinks flush the driver with the baffle so that everything is flush to eliminate any edges... I will post a video once final, printed in black PLA+ and mounted.
Thanks for the review my friend. Funny you chose the Nirvana MTV Uplugged cd to demonstrate the sound. That particular recording is incredibly clear and transparent. It 's like Cobain is performing right in front of you. I played that cd a lot when we just got the speakers in '94. You can easily hear the difference between high quality recordings and lower quality with the es 11 's The high quality recordings really shine. For example , 'Don 't speak' from Danni Carlos, 'Fluid' from Yosi Horikawa 'My Bass' from Brian Bromberg and 'Liberty' from Anette Askvik to name a few. Oh yes and the album 'Nouvelle Vague' from Nouvelle Vague also sounds very very satisfying through the es 11 's. I found out female vocals in general sound very good from the 11 's. Of course music tast is also a very personal thing. If you have any recommendations of songs you find sounding especially great through the Epos es 11 's please let me know.. Greatings from Holland
I was just streaming over Tidal for this demonstration, I agree that MTV Unplugged is so well recorded, and sound mastering definitely will make a difference on any speaker, just they play what we feed them. a Good speaker should tell you many things, even bad recordings as well, haha / but honestly 99% of all music from Tidal sounds great... I don't have any specific things to share for individual music tracks, sorry.
@Ray Kodiak that's alright, no problem of course. A question; I can buy a pair of Es 12 's for a good price. Are the differences between the Es11 and es12 big and interesting enough to have them both and rotate them? And would rotating them, say one month one pair and the next month the other pair, mean you have to burn them in again and again?
@@Eric-lh6wp the concept of speaker burn-in is for new speakers, the idea is to relax the drivers, etc... especially the woofer.. used speakers by now are all burned in / hope that makes sense... I heard the 12 might have more bass extension, not really sure, I haven't played them side by side / my 12s are in a different space vs 11s. I say if you can get them for a good price, buy them as backup :)
@Ray Kodiak I played them side by side. For my set up the Es 12 sounds best. The 12 sounds a bit less transparent in the high and mid than the 11. But the 12 has more bass indeed and is therefore sounding more balanced than the 11. The Es11 sounds sublime in mid and high, but lacks in the lower region. My speaker cables also take away some bass. So the es12 is very welcome in my set up. No booming bass here, but just enough to not only hear the music, but also feel it resonate in your chest, which makes it more fun. Cheers!
Maybe the 12 has a bit more bass extension than the 11, but the 14 is a bigger speaker so it sounds a bit larger / but I love them all, hard to pick just one.
@Ray Kodiak hello Ray, your answer already tells a lot. When my wife and I bought our Hi Fi set-up in 1993 we indeed had the intention to invest in something for the rest of our life. Of course in time some components fell of, like the cassette deck and the radio tuner. A few years ago we changed the cd player for a Cambridge CXN network player. Streaming and discovering new music on Spotify hugely improved the pleasure of listening. Recently we stept over to Tidel; a huge improvement in streaming quality. What remained the same over all these years are the Rotel RA 980 BX (powerhouse!) amplifier, the Ocos speaker cables and of course our Epos Es 11 speakers with their stands. Very recently I changed the 30 years old Transparent Interlinks for a pair of Chord Epic interlinks. The huge improvement in openess en detail of sound is a true revelation. This made me curious about how my 30 years old Epos es11 speakers would relate to speakers that are currently on the market. So, that 's why your answer already says a lot for me. Best regards from the Netherlands, Eric
Ray, thanks for the video and your expertise regarding the Elac 50H Turntable. I just bought one for $100 at an Estate Sale. It has a Stanton 500 Cartridge. My Friend that runs a Vintage Audio Store told me it's a junky Turntable and I paid way too much. I think it's cool but my Platter wont lift off. At least not like you show. He also said the speeds tend to be inaccurate. I don't even know how to check the speeds. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
I really like it, it’s built like a tank and sound good too once you learn all of its inner workings, it’s also built to precision… so move the planner around as you pull on it, maybe you need to hit a special spot and then it will pull out, just completely turn it slowly to do a full 360 while you pull it up and see if it comes out… I also paid $100 for mine and restored and I like it…
@@rompstar Mine looks to have a circular snap ring in which I don't have a tool for. Think that is locking the platter. I plugged it in and only the light comes on, speed shows 16 and speed lever stuck. Guess when they said it worked I should have plugged it in. Hopefully the Motor isn't dead. If I can get the platter off, I can see what's wrong. I have two other Turntables but thought this one was cool. Maybe not if I'm out the bucks.
@@scotta9114 ya not sure maybe a clip is the culprit, mine comes out without a clip… those motors were really well made, maybe something else is broken, also try posting to a forum for audio…
@@rompstar Vinyl Engine says there is a round c-clip. In person said to put wedges under the Platter holding it up as far as it can go. Then hit the center bearing with a drift and a hammer.
I love the look of these speakers and they sound quite detailed and open, even through RU-vid... is that what you're hearing with them? I like a dynamic and forward sounding speaker but I read mixed reviews on line. Curious as to how you would describe their sound signature,
I do really like ‘em otherwise they would not be part of my collection… they are very smooth and almost have this like a velvet smooth sound to them, 3 way and have high velocity German made drivers, the box is well made and even extra spray inside to remove any box booming.. I have since bought lower stands that sit on an angle and they sound even better… and they have the power if you need it obviously ;) haha Anything new that would even come close to this costs thousands these days… example in point EPOS ES14 you can buy them for like $400-500 and the new remakes ES14N are $4700 so … no brainer there …
