If you haven't heard, there is a big push to bring back Atlas characters for a "cinematic universe" beginning with Devilina. There should be a lot more information coming out of NYCC this weekend as Mego Corp is debuting their line of 8 inch Atlas figures at Walmart's collectors' booth. I know that Devilina and The Grim Ghost are two of the first four figures being released exclusively through Walmart.

Land of the Lost was truly a gem from the 1970s. I'd be born after it aired, but was still young enough to remember it being on syndication in the early 80s. The practical effects and visuals were truly stunning for its time, considering the show's budget, and this makes me even more excited to revisit Land of the Lost, when the DVDs I bought off Amazon arrive in a few weeks.

Wasn’t this based on the Classics Illustrated comics rather than the H.G. Wells novel? They were known to change parts of the novels/stories. “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” TV movie I think was also based on Classics Illustrated.

The villains death sounded like it was the inspiration for the Emperor’s death in “Return of the Jedi”. It seemed strange that Columbia Pictures passed on this movie, given that every studio wanted to make a space themed movie in the wake of the original “Star Wars”. But then again the movie version of Roger Zelazy’s “Lord of Light” (which actually could have rivaled Lucas’s movie) didn’t get made either.

I’m watching them again…, and yes, I saw them on TV in the 70’s. My mom even made me a Pylon out of a refrigerator box with a table full of crystals. Great memories…, the 70’s were awesome. Is there a list of the episodes in order. Seems the episodes as listed on the Tubi app aren’t in the right order as the show references things that have not happened yet. Maybe the shows were originally aired this way.

Harryhausen apparently held out hope for the film for years. In 1991 I went to a book signing he had in Los Angeles and I asked him about Sinbad Goes To Mars and how Sinbad would have gotten to Mars, but he said he couldn't say because the film might still get made one day! But years later he revealed all in his detailed autobiography Ray Harryhausen: An Animated Life.

Sinbad Goes To Mars was never a serious idea and Harryhausen was never going to be involved in making it. He retired in 1980 after filming Clash Of The Titans. I lived and worked not far from him back then, the story in some circles was that he pitched Sinbad Goes To Mars to Columbia the following year as an April Fool's joke. Columbia swallowed it whole and it was only when things started getting really silly they realised they'd been conned and dropped the idea.

I've seen movies with worse, far worse stories than Sinbad goes to Mars. If Ray had anything to do with it, it would have worked. Some of his movies were undoubtedly better than others but I can't think of any that weren't fondly remembered by those of us that liked the genre. The biggest mistake imo was not letting him make War of The Worlds. From what I have read about his ideas I think he would have nailed it in a way that the other versions, decent attempts as they were, haven't.

harryhausen planned on adapting tarzan and the ant men, and also john carter of mars. sinbad goes to mars would definitely have resembled the barsoom novels of burroughs, and since star wars owes much to them, columbia pictures missed an opportunity to create a story that looks back to the sources of star wars.

Hi there That 70s Nerd. New to your channel and I like what I see. Hope you get more likes and subs. I've been writing my own fan-fic version of Godzilla vs. Megalon. It's titled, It's called Godzilla vs. the Kabuton Brothers: The Undersea Kingdom's SOS Strategy. Instead of one, there are two Megalon's. Both are robot's representing Seatopia’s ancient guardians from long ago. I also changed Megalon from Kabuton because I felt this new name fits better. One of them causes a volcanic eruption and earthquake on Monster island, sending the monsters fleeing except for Godzilla. After a battle, Godzilla chases Megalon to Japan. Goro Ibuki and his younger brother Hiroshi Ibuki see the second Megalon after it drains the water from Lake Kitayama. Instead of being villain's, the Seatopian’s are victims of the nuclear tests and help Goro improve Jet Jaguar. I also improved and expanded on Seatopia's history and cut out the part about them being allies with the M Space Nebula aliens since it's never explained how they came to know each other. So no Gigan in my story. Sorry. I made Goro and Hiroshi brothers instead of friends in the movie. I also added in a new character such as Einus. She is a Seatopian princess who helps them against Ana, another Seatopian who is controlling the Megalon Brothers. In the film there was no given reason why JJ was created. But now there is. In a flashback, you learn that JJ was a project by Goro and Hiroshi's parents for the propose of fighting monsters until they are both killed during Gigan and King Ghidorah's rampage through Tokyo in Godzilla vs. Gigan. It's not the most original idea. You see it in other tokusatsu shows at that time, but what else are you going to do with a giant robot. Let it fight monsters, no duh! Jet Jaguar is later upgraded in the story as an advanced A.I. and can talk just like in the Godzilla SP anime. He has new abilities, ranging from a finishing move called the Plasma Beam he fires from his wrists when he crosses them in a X fashion. Jet Jaguar can also fire a taser-like attachment from is right arm and a deploy a pepper-spray from his left arm. To freeze his enemy’s, Jet Jaguar can shoot a liquid nitrogen spray from his mouth. So what do you think? Do any of you have any ideas that can improve Godzilla vs. Megalon? Let me know by replying please.

Edgar Rice Burroughs Mars series was not done justice in ANY of the films. It was released in 1912, with that periods understanding of technology. I really is, for the most part, steampunk, trying to be modern, yet anchored in Victorian ideas/ideals. That flavor requires some good screen writing(imo). ERB was a good read.

Would have loved to see Sinbad on the red planet, for sure. Harryhausen was an artist, and it's a pity that his art became outdated. He later created some great scenes for Clash of the Titans, but his magic couldn't win against technology (even a box office hit, critics panned this movie for its "archaic [...] technique". Wow.) I watched "The Golden Voyage of Sinbad" and most of his other movies a few times as a child on TV on Sunday mornings, along with another great but now often forgotten film, Karel Zeman's "Na Kometě" (On the Comet). For people who have a melancholy feeling for Harryhausen's films, I generally recommend Zeman's films, even if the Czech original sounds, well, strange. (By the way, think I go for decent blu-rays of the Thief of Baghdad... 1924 and 1940 versions!)

'Golden Voyage' was my favorite of the 3 Sinbad movies as well. I would have loved to have seen a 'Goes To Mars'. It sounds like it would have elements of John Carter of Mars & Flash Gordon combined. Ray Harryhausen was (and still is) the Grand Master of stop motion animation. His work was a form of art that I hope never gets forgotten or unappreciated.
