After following through on this, some part of my imported content did not show on the Calendar. Basically, I have multiple events (4 each day) on the imported CSV file, but only contents of 14 days was imported leaving out the contents of 16 days. What could have caused this and how do I rectify the issue?
Hello, @outdoyou9810 I recently came across your Notion template video and was truly impressed by its utility, especially for organizing numerous articles for extensive projects like review papers. I run a manuscript editing service for Japanese researchers and believe your template could greatly aid them. I wanted to email you and ask for your permission to use it, but I could not find your contact information. Therefore, I'd like to modify your template for a Japanese audience and offer it for free, with full credit given to you for the original creation. Additionally, I plan to create a RU-vid video in Japanese to show how it can be used effectively in technical writing courses I teach at university and with clients, which I believe will further amplify its value. Your work is inspiring, and I'm eager to share its benefits with a wider audience! 😊 Thank you for your fantastic resources, @lincscience
I'm curious how a lot of grad students at something like AU do all this stuff when someone like you, who I'm guessing is somewhat exceptional, had to spend so much time figuring out multiple tools and workflows? Or do they just take a capstone project option for the program or something? (I'm not sure what an international relations or service project would look like.)
Dear Jamie, I am trying to replicate your workflow. On minute 22.20 of this video, in tinderbox you show the "cards" you have produced in devonthink. This section brings up 3 points I'd like to understand. 1 fiches appear with the reference URL from devonthink and with the URL from bookends (How did you get there?).2. You have a command checked which is "publish in devonthink" (I suspect to keep any change you have made in tinderbox be reflected in DVT - is this a standard command in Tinderbox ?. In the very fiche you see as links the citations from bookends :presumably clicking on those links opens the file in Bookends (How did you get to insert these links in devonthink ?). Maybe now you're fully in your professional life and you do not have time for feedback from youtube, but with your two videos you have opened a real pandora box of questions in the user communities of these softwares. You represent a "missing manual"...Can you help us with another short video ?
Wow, I really enjoyed all of your videos! I’ll definitely try to implement this outlining approach in Obsidian. I especially liked when you tick off the bits of excerpts that you used. Because you kind of keep the source’s (curated) context in place, great idea ! Can’t wait for you to make videos again :)
HI ! Thank you for the video ! However, I still struggle while importing a document in the database. Your template including the author's question, the answer, the school of thought as well as the 'Notes' part doesn't show up. Do you write it manually evry time you import a new source ?
I guess I wasn't exactly very clear. I don't actually import the source documents themselves. I make a card for each source and add the citation from a citation manager. If you are using my template and make a new Source card, when you open it, you'll see a template for "New Research Source". So no, I don't manually write out those questions for every source - it's a template. Does that help?
This video is very inspiring to me! I'm curious about the Devonthink part and am very much looking forward to your help. 1. the hazel rule you set in this video. On the DEVONthink part, is it just to move PDF files to Devonthink's inbox folder? 2. if so, how to ensure that Devonthink subsequent automatic processing the newly add pdfs? Are the smart rules function that added the label automatically? is there anything else I should set/figure out?
Thanks! I actually don't use Tinderbox anymore so this video is a bit out of date. I use Notion these days - I have another video on that. I definitely still use Hazel and DevonThink. 1. Yes, that rule simply moves files to the Devonthink inbox. 2. I try not to do things in super large batches. No system is foolproof so I try to process new documents all the way through so I can keep an eye out for errors. Devonthink's smart rules function adds the labels inside DT. Hazel moves documents on my computer - Devonthink moves things/labels things once they are inside Devonthink. Hope this helps!
Thanks! I’ve watched this video several times. I was wondering if you had any suggestions on note-taking, building an archive, creating connections, etc? Have you heard about the Evergreen note system? I believe it is based in the Zettelkasten system. Thanks again for your videos!
Actually, yes I've heard of Evergreen! I actually switched to it when I transitioned over to Notion instead of Tinderbox. I mention it in my longer video on managing information for graduate school.
Thanks! Yes, I still use Devonthink because it really is the best document manager I have found. I can search across articles, not just their titles or my unpredictable notes about them. I'm really waiting for Notion's API to come out so I can use more apps like my calendar and direct links to my articles in Devonthink.
@@outdoyou9810 Yesss, I'm so excited about Notion's API, apparently the public beta is coming out in two days -- May 13th! I will check out Devonthink, but my dream workflow is probably to have everything on Notion :) Automate adding new papers, automate adding the file links (while storing them in a cloud), automate everything and manage it in one place! But it's always very helpful to see what other tools like Devonthink can do and maybe try and replicate it within Notion.
I set up separate watch folders for both Devonthink and Bookends. I have Hazel set up so that when I download a PDF with a particular tag, like research or article (the latter being for articles for class, the former for papers I'm writing) it first moves it to the Bookends watch folder and then copies it to a Devonthink watch folder. Make sure you have Bookends open and running when you are downloading articles. Bookends seems to have trouble importing when it is not open when the document first hits the watch folder. Or maybe that's just me. lol. Then I have rules in Devonthink that handle research articles differently from articles I need to read for class - they go to different folders. I hope that helps!
Liked you video very interesting workflow, Interested in how you set up your Tinderbox actions, attributes for your notes, etc..and publish to Devonthink,
I have to admit that I ended up switching to Notion instead of Tinderbox. I just couldn't get past the level of computer coding knowledge. You can find my new workflow using Notion to write research papers here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SQk7rtEinlU.html Hope this helps!

Thanks! I honestly don't know what MarginNote is so I, unfortunately, can't speak to your question. I do have another video about using Notion instead of Tinderbox, which I have found is MUCH easier if you are not quite sold on the price tag of Tinderbox. I hope this helps!!
Greetings Good morning. In the spirit of learning more about Devonthink pro, I wanted to know if it is possible to make a video where you can talk about the footnotes and the intimate relationship between Zotero and Devonthink pro. Now I am doing a doctoral thesis and I think it would be very useful. Also, how to backup Escribner to external SSD disk. Thanks a lot

Hmm if she is using Bookends why use Zotero? Bookends works seemlesslly with Scrivener but not Zotero. I wasted a few weeks trying to get Zotero to work with Scrivener. But Bookends worked right out of the box.
This is great. I would love instructional materials on the steps you took to develop your research workflow in these apps! I would pay for that, there could be a market for a course on this...! I’ve been playing around with all these (except hazel) for research but I find it difficult
Thanks! I'm actually working on a video (it's taking longer than expected!) explaining my new workflow for research writing using Notion instead of Tinderbox. Tinderbox is great but it takes a bit more computer programming knowledge than I have time for. Personally, it's been a lot of trial and error to find a workflow that enhances the way my brain works instead of causing friction. Take your time. I've basically created a slightly new workflow for myself every semester as I discover new apps and see how others are doing it!
I created a new workflow for working with Notion instead of Tinderbox. You can find it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SQk7rtEinlU.html I find it a lot easier than Tinderbox. Hope this helps!
