My headcanon: Payday: The Heist takes place in the L4D universe in 2009, with No Mercy being the crew's last heist (for obvious reasons). They're killed after trying to escape the building in an Ambulance, and then all hell breaks loose. Payday 2 takes place in a universe specific to Payday.

PD:TH's version is a lot more serious, considering the risks involved with the heist. PD2: A fucking bop. A fair comparison to this is Payday 2: Heisting in videogames. Payday: The Heist: Heisting IRL. (I don't speak from personal experience.)
