Unfortunately I was exactly there: 5 meters from the final position of Saarinen body, that crashed and was hit twice by other riders before stopping. He lost the helmet too. There was no doubt he was dead: portions of the brain were on the tarmac and almost each one of his bones were clearly broken. Pasolini body was on the other side of the track and was hidden behind some straw bales. He was found one or two minutes later because medical assistance has seen other injured pilots (Walter Villa, may be) nearby Saarinen. Flames, smoke: it was really shocking. I was so shocked that I decided to quit going to see races and I no longer went to a track.
Horrible, just horrible. I just saw the tv series about Jarno here in Finland. In that final episode some rider leaked oil on the track and many people saw it happening. Then, some riders tryed to stop that 250cc class to start because of that but they did not care - the race was going to happen in time no matter what. I wonder was it the oil on the track wich caused this crash or something else?
