This video couldn't have come at a better time, as after years of contemplating, I've decided to learn French. Thanks for sharing the apps and French RU-vidrs!
I've been learning Ukrainian for a while and you keep me inspired. Problem is there's less Ukrainian speakers than most languages to practice with and less by the day.
I’ll switch to English for a moment - in the case of that particular sentence, I would’ve used “caméra” instead of “appareil photo”. “Appareil photo” refers to a device for taking pictures, while “caméra” to a device used for filming. Nowadays, most devices can do both. In that case, you can use both words, but the typical approach is to use the word that represents the ‘function’ being used/highlighted in a given context. So, since you’re saying that you’re filming a video about learning French, the better word would be “caméra”. Finally, congrats Jordan and Sara!! Actually, I also have some advice regarding your son, if I may - if you have the possibility, allow him to learn a foreign language as soon as possible. I’m bilingual Polish/French, I grew up mostly in Belgium, so I was surrounded by French, but we spoke Polish at home. And I’ll be forever grateful to my parents that they insisted on me going to an additional school on Saturdays to learn Polish, because just speaking it at home wasn’t enough - the vocabulary is quite limited in everyday life at home. Knowing multiple languages is extremely helpful and enriching. And let’s face it…it’s much easier to learn when you’re little. I’ve been trying to learn German as an adult…it’s much harder. So the more languages a kid is exposed to, the better. But that’s of course just my opinion 😊 Fun fact - my cousin’s children speak 4 languages: Polish, Indonesian, German and English. Talk about a strange mix :D But I am certain it will help them in life. Sorry for the very long comment :D
I love Easy French and A Piece of French! I learned French for years in school, and learned languages as a hobby for a bit. I haven't actively been learning French (or any language) for a while, but I like listening to videos like these to practice listening, and to see what I remember.
Dude this must be so cool with the Olympics coming up in Paris in less than a month... maybe you could try to watch some of the olympic sports you yourself have done from Paris-based announcers, to help learn more French regarding those sports, and practicing in general! :D
Bonne chance! :) All the best, wishing you health and many precious moments together!
Awesome. I started to learn French a few years ago but when I got pregnant (baby is 13 months old now) I put it on the back burner. My dad started to slightly teach me as a kid (barely) and I am sad he didn't (his grandfather spoke it and was born there). I enjoyed hearing you speak it here. I never heard of the app you are using and I think writing it is a great way to learn! I was using italki for a while with Japanese pre-covid where I would hire someone to teach me who lives in the country of the origin of the language. It was way better. I learn best when someone can be in front of me teaching me rather than through an app type of thing. I need to do it with French. You have learned so much and devoted great time to it. Now you can watch the Olympics in a few days and understand it if you watch it in French with their channels instead of in the US with all the commercials!
I dabbled in Russian a bit, never got past some beginner conversational phrases and some random words, but I haven’t worked on it for around a year now. 😅
It's very interesting to hear your thought process/the methods and stages to your approach. It's making me think back to when I first encountered Mandarin. I wasn't actually expecting to learn it, so at first I just picked up a few basic words and phrases. Then I learned the anglacized phonetic system. Later, I went through a basic level textbook, and then unexpectedly moved to Taiwan for 2 years. I quickly became functionally fluent just by conversing, so THAT'S basically when I got to do the learn-it-like-a-kid part that you STARTED with... Now? Teaching Mandarin is one of the most fun and rewarding jobs I've ever had!
It makes me smile so big to see you learning and speaking French! Your name is still your name, but you could say it with a French accent 😂. It’s great to hear your ideas and what you’ve found! The last few months, I have added using the Refold French 1K Anki deck for beginners, with French native speaker audio sentences with each word. They recommend combining that with comprehensible input should cover the most common 2600 words. I add 5 new cards a day, and it takes about 10 mins daily. Then I’ve been tracking my hours and I’m at approximately 435 hrs. My goal is 600+ by the end of the year 🎉. I watched the French in Action 52 episodes, French comprehensible with Tintin 62 episodes, Alice Ayel videos. I have read Ollie’s 100 conversations in Easy French - with the audio, and started the one you showed in this video. I also have some graded readers from CIDEB. Definitely read and listen to audio at the same time! That’s is gold. Once I read through, I just listened to the 100 conv books a couple more times.
I've been learning French off and on for years now, and have found listening to the super easy french videos, emphasis on "Super" helpful. They talk even slower than the easy french ones do. Anthony is the guy who was doing them, I like to go back and watch his videos over and over again. I also had some success with pimsleur when I was using it as well. I'm not exactly sure why I chose French other than it sounds beautiful and for travel. Japanese should be coming up too at some point
2 questions for you: What language are you learning or want to start learning? Why did you get interested in that language? Check out Unacademy! You'll love it: unacademy-language-learning.onelink.me/ewRt/g6tuvoav
Congrats on your Baby!!! 🙌❤God Bless you Guys! I'm learning French too, I started through Rosetta Stone, but now I am in a place where I can read super well but listening and writing kill me 😂 I'm also kind of learning Brazilian Portuguese, but mainly through people speaking it where I live and the fact that it is similar to Spanish, which I speak, In Portuguese, I can read very well but since I learned through hearing people speaking I can listen and understand very well. Both ways of learning have taught me a lot, but I prefer listening and learning better since I can understand people naturally speaking Portuguese better than French. But I do know more French grammar than Portuguese grammar I guess 😂 Ps. I wouldn't suggest learning both languages at the same time, I never did it intentionally, and now I keep mixing up the languages in my head 😂
When I was learning French, I ended up with a French Bible somehow and it was amazing at helping me to read French. The words registered in a different part of my brain because I was reading it in a different language so the verses were more meaningful and impactful and interesting, even though I'd read them in English many times. If reading is your struggle I highly recommend reading something you're already familiar with, but in French.
I restarted Spanish because… it’s just embarrassing that I’ve been trying to get past the novice stage for 20+ years.😂 I’m using Babbel for that and thankfully I am at an A2 level with that, so I’m not a complete newbie and didn’t need to start all the way over. And because of YOU and a boom series I’m reading that had WHOLE PARAGRAPHS in French that I didn’t even know, I started learning French a week ago. I’m using the Duolingo app for that and I can at least talk super basics with people. I got most of those sentences you read out of that book, and you definitely knew slightly more than I did. 😂
I want to learn Spanish because though I'm of Mexican heritage, I wasn't taught Spanish. Actually, it was more my dad. He didn't teach us Spanish because he grew up in a generation where the culture promoted this idea that Spanish wasn't needed. But when he got older, he saw that he was wrong. But, now that I'm an adult and see the benefits of knowing Spanish. That being said, one benefit is that I'm not starting at zero. I already know a handful of Spanish. I just don't know how to make it conversational.
Hi Jordan. I've been learning french for some time, and now I'm really interested in the French movies that you watch. Could you send through a list of great French movies?
Jordan, you mentioned using self leveling concrete in your video - please read this comment in its entirety! My wife and I (and others we know) used self leveling concrete and thought you could just pour it in place and it would “self level”. This is very much not the case. You HAVE to push the stuff around, and flatten it out, and push it where you want it to go. You need to use a 4ft level to identify your high spots and low spots and aim to add in ONLY certain spots. We poured 25 gallons or so of that stuff all over our floor and it was far worse than before we poured it. Be VERY careful with the stuff and know what you’re doing before you attempt this. We had to beat the daylights out of the stuff to remove it from our floor and it was very terrible and disheartening. We have friends who also assumed that self leveling meant self leveling and it worked out the same way for them. Please please please do this with somebody who knows what they’re doing. If your neighbor, whose name escapes me, knows how to do this, have him walk you through the process. It is SO hard to undo a big mistake like using this stuff wrong. Please be wise about it and don’t make the mistake we made! If anybody knows Jordan and can make sure he sees this, please get this information to him. Save him from the horror story that was our first experience with the stuff! (Also, for anybody who’s curious, we followed the directions for how much water to use)
You two are adorable. Blonde hair that turns dark in teen years. I had blonde hair as a child that turned dark and my husband has dark brown hair but all our sons have blonde hair. Also I have blue eyes and my husband has hazel eyes, and you guys have a similar situation, so I think blue eyes for your child too. Pale. There you have it. Let's find out soon! Weight varies all the time. I think you'll have a 7 pound baby of some sort. . .maybe upper six pounder. I am going to tell you right now. . .baby hair usually falls out in the first few months. Two of my kids had dark hair at birth that fell out and became blonde. It is hard to predict. I loved that, "I'm most excited about you holding him." Aw. That was so cute. Have fun when you cut the cord off! My husband loved that part for all of our babies, but I don't know what they do for C-sections . . .do they still do that?
Sarah, sending you so much love. It can be super shocking and unexpected to be told you need a c section for your first baby. I went through similar feelings when I was told the same with my firstborn. Thankfully everything went well , baby was healthy at the end and that's all that matters. Shut out the noise and comments from everyone else, just focus on yourself, your baby, and God and everything will be fine. <3 lots of love x
You have to be a carrier of red recessive on both sides. My husband is a red head. I have light/medium brown streaks of blonde and red. But pretty much brown. My mom is blonde, my dad is dark brown, but my grandmother had Auburn hair. Out pops our baby with the darkest red hair. On my husbands side every one of his siblings has had a boy with brown and a boy with red even though the siblings vary from very dark brown, to rust, to red. Then the spouses vary from blonde to medium brown. But we all got a dark brown boy and a red headed boy. Genetics is fun. We all carry the recessive for red. But, my red head is even more rare because he has the recessive for red and the recessive for blue eyes. He has the most rare genetic combination in the world.
I've heard there has to be red on both sides for there to be red. No idea if that's true. I have a redhead brother and neither of our parents are redheads, but some grandparents are. Another brother is blonde but has red in his beard, and could pass that on to his child, but his wife has no red in her family at all. I've also heard that the ginger gene is determined by how strong the other genes are? Like, the ginger gene has to be high, and the colour/shade genes have to be low for the true red to show through, or something. Everybody has the ginger gene, but usually the other genes are higher.
My baby had aubern red hair and both my husband and I have brown hair. We were both shocked. If they hadn't of just handed her to me I would have though I had the wrong baby
Do keep in mind that often babies born with blue eyes have their eye colour change in the first few years. Our three were all born blue and now we have hazel, blue, and brown eyed children.
I had Braxton Hicks for hours everyday for a week before I gave birth. I wouldn't worry about it. But, I had so many Braxton Hicks I didn't know if I was in labor or not when I was. Got to the midwife 5 hours later to check just in case I was and I was dilated to a seven.😂
We have 2 kids. Our second daughter looks so different from our first. First blond with hardly any hair. Second came out with more hair. Brown hair and slightly darker skin. So far both have blue eyes. I have green, my husband has blue. We both have brown hair. I had blond hair as a child. Both of our kids are still little (2 years and 2 weeks.) So I know a lot can change as they grow.
I predict light hair that darkens to brown over time. Green eyes. And light skin. I will say though in my family sometimes the eye colour changes as they get older
Looking at the kids in our family so far, the mom’s genes have determined the coloring of the babies and the dad genes have played a big part in the features. It’s not scientific but I’m guessing blonde/pale/blue! Like Sara, I was also blonde as a kid, and all but one of my boys had blonde hair at birth.. the last one turned blonde after his first hairs fell out. I’m really excited to find out what baby looks like!
A Prayer for Baby Taylor👶🏼💕: Lord Almighty, we come before you now thanking you for this beautiful couple, Jordan and Sara. We thank you for your faithfulness to them and for carrying them through these years of their marriage and now through this season of pregnancy and their journey to parenthood. You know both of their hearts and concerns. Since Jordan and Sara are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, help them please lay aside every weight, and sin that clings so closely, and let them run with endurance the race that is set before them (Hebrews 12:1). Help them both collectively and individually look to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of their faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God (v. 2). May you hear their cries, O God, and listen to their prayers (Psalm 61:1). May their hearts be soft and clean before You. From the ends of the earth they call to you when their hearts are faint (v. 2). Please lead them both, Baby Taylor, and their family/support system to the Rock that is higher than them, for You have been their refuge/a strong tower against the enemy (v. 3). May they all dwell in your tent forever! May you lovingly help them take refuge under the shelter of your wings (v. 4). Thank you again Lord Jesus for your sweet loving kindness to Jordan and Sara. You are faithful to accomplish your promises to them. May they continue to look to You where their help comes from and may they find all their Strength in You, the Provider and Giver of every good thing. We rejoice at what You have started and will complete! In Jesus name, we pray, Amen and Amen
He's goina be CUTE. My prediction. ❤ I am wondering if you two have done belly mapping? If not,do a youtube search. You draw where the baby is. I loved doing this. Or you can position a floppy baby doll in relation to your baby's actual position.
Genetically , red hair is absolutely a possibility. Like eye color, a lot of what we were taught in the early 2000's about inherited genes was imperfect. For example, blue or green eyes can show up after generations of brown only. Eye color for example is dictated by like, 12 genes, and which ones express and which ones don't decide what color you get. Hair color is similar. Let's not forget Miyamoto Musashi, legendary 100% Japanese swordman, had blue-violet eyes.
So excited for y'all! By the way, since you guys both have recessive eye colors, (greenish-blue and blue) any children you have can only ever have blue or green eyes, not brown :)
I understand how Jordan would be confused, but doubling the measurement didn't work because your stomach expands during pregnancy, making your sides deeper, but across the front of your stomach and across your back remain relatively similar measurements. It is the same concept of how a rectangle that is twice as long as a square does not measure twice the perimeter. Only 2 of the 4 sides are doubled in that instance. That may not be the best comparison, but that's the best I could come up with right now 😅
