You can send a reminder email to follow up and see if the professor had received any update from the industry partner. Also remember that Professor received many emails from potential PhD applicants so on occasions we may lose track of all we were talking with. so it is a good idea to send a follow-up email and asked for any progress. Sir, what type of visa does one have to apply for a post-doc? is it work visa which has to be sponsored by the university where one will get selected? because some universities will demand work visa before selecting. i mean in Australia, university which is offering position will not give sponsorship or work visas? So, on what basis will govt . be giving the work visa ? like just on the basis of offer letter from lab? but in reverse labs will not provide the position untill one has working visa. what is the exact process?
The process for applying a post doc does not depend upon whether you have a Visa or not. The first step is to apply for postdoc position and once you are accepted you will be given a job offer by the university or the lab. With this job offer you will then apply an appropriate Visa to come to Australia for work. This applies to any other academic position in the university. So you do not need to have a Visa when you’re applying for a postdoc position. There are many different types of work Visa available and they keep changing as the government changes the visas. When you get a job offer letter they would either mention which Visa you should apply or they would suggest you get in touch with an immigration agent who will guide you through this process. I think it is important to understand the perspective of the Professor and if you are able to think from their perspective I believe your chances of success would be much higher. What I have noticed is whenever I receive such emails they are more focused on what the candidate has achieved rather than how those achievements will align with the work that I am doing . You can imagine I get daily two or three emails and after reading just a few sentences I decide not to read it any further because it is a stock standard email that is been sent to multiple other professors. This does not give a good impression to me because it just shows you are not really keen to spend sufficient time to understand my research but rather trying to send out as many emails as possible and hoping one of them would reply . This is like spamming and like spamming the response rate is going to be very low. Taking time to draft a personalised email by researching the professors recent work will significantly improve your chances of securing response plus if they have any funding they are more likely to consider you for that because it shows you have done sufficient background research about their work, so indirectly reflects on your research capability. Thank you so much for this vodeo. Firsts, I would like to know if the two or three papers should be something like review papers, systematic reviews, or a combination of systematic. For example, a candidate who has already published a few peer-reviewed journal articles and is looking forward to putting some of the articles together for the purpose of PhD. by published work. Second, from your experience as a professor, are there any disadvantages to those with PhD. by published as compared to those with traditional PhDs? Thank you so much.
To answer your first question typically you would need to have one systematic literature review paper or a traditional literature review paper plus one or two empirical papers that present your findings from your research. Ideally, I would suggest one SLR and two empirical papers. These two papers could be addressing your research questions. For example, if you have two research questions, then you could have two papers. In case of Business research you may have a mix of different methodologies like conducting a quantitative survey and doing a qualitative interview. In such a case you can have one paper for your qualitative findings and one paper for your quantitative findings. I have another video on what you can publish so do check that out. The link is here. It also helps you in a way that when your thesis goes for examination you are safe since bulk of your research is already reviewed and hence the examiner cannot give negative feedback on your work. I do not know your background so I cannot suggest anything specific but following these videos will help you formulate a research proposal based on a research topic.
You can always try and apply, some universities have a condition that you have to put in a name of a professor from whom You have got approval, if you have found a Professor it makes your application stronger and you will get an outcome faster, otherwise your application will be circulated within the relevant department and one of the professors would have to accept to supervise you. So ideally, I would suggest you approach a professor and then start the application process. Having said that there is no stopping for you to directly apply. If I recall correctly in this video, I talk about how to use ChatGPT for making the structure of your research proposal and not writing the research proposal. I have suggested you to use ChatGPT to ask questions and you would have to respond to those questions specific headings of the research proposal. If you do that, the answer will be written by you and will not be detected by plagiarism software.

Sir, are there potential downsides of doing direct PhD? I'm doing BSc (hons) Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics from UWE Bristol (1st class so far). It is however a 3 year course. I did the foundation year does it make it 4.
Are you going to pursue your PhD at Bristol itself? There is no downside of doing a PhD. You will just finish your PhD quickly at a very young age and that will be great.

It depends upon which university you have graduated from and which country. There is a list that the Australian University use to assess whether the level of English at your university is considered equivalent to the universities accepted level of English.
PhD applications are open throughout the year so you can apply any time. However, if you are required to do some coursework units, then those will begin only two times in a year if it’s a semester based program or three times a year if it is a trimester. so you could be bit more strategic when you apply or even if you apply at any time and you’re required to do coursework then you could be able to do it when it is next available thank you

Hi Sangita To answer your question it would depend upon whether you are undergraduate degree had some research project or whether when you were working for the last eight years were you involved in any research project? If you have participated and can show research experience, then you may not need publications. Some universities may except admission into Phil or PhD without a publication, so you may give it a try . Having publications only increases your chances of getting a scholarship. Thanks Vidy

You can write your publications in form of citation like you typically write in a research paper in the reference list. You can make your name bold in the author list so it is easier for employers to see.
