also the less screens we give, the less higher ups can stop tripping and being couch lockedf to the monitors, i really can't support the amount of funny "back meds" we've had to waste just to get things running without a new steaming HR complaint, since you can never tell what plant is up in flames this time. hahahaha

APS is owned by Pinnacle West Capital Corporation (PNW), which is on the New York Stock Exchange. Your rates are heavily influenced by investors who do not live in Arizona. Sadly, those of us who are stuck with APS are getting no help from the Arizona Corporation Commission, which seems to side with APS more than the people. With the population growing in Arizona, we will soon face power shortages seen in California. APS actively discriminates against those with solar and is hurting local solar businesses by making solar financially unattractive with increases to the "Grid Access Charge" for solar customers and reducing solar buyback by a maximum of 10% per year to protect their profits. APS has even gone to such extremes to terminate your price-locked buyback rate if you make any changes to your solar generation compacity. We can not punish those who have solar as they are actively taking stress off the grid, reducing electricity shortages.

Pre-cooling works great but all the money saved went to rate increases so we really don't see any savings. Too bad. We pre cool to 76 then at 4PM bump it to 82. Most days it does not reach 82 by 7PM. At 7PM it goes down to 78 for the night, 77 if its humid. I did add some blown in insulation in the attic and it helps.

I have been doing this for years. It was a bit of a struggle when there was a 5-hour (3pm - 8pm) on peak period. Now that it is only 3 hours 4pm - 7pm it is a piece of cake. I set my thermostat at 74 degrees from 7pm - 4pm and off from 4pm - 7pm. My inside temperature never reaches 80 degrees before the air kicks on at 8pm. I also make sure my pool pump is only on during the off-.peak period. My demand charge is always between 1.1 and 1.3. I have a 2500 SF home with vaulted ceilings and a pool. My budget billing is only $128 a month. I like my house cool so it works great for me.

We have a home built in 2014. No pre-cooling for us! We started last year turning our AC to 85 from 4-7, it never comes on during that time as it doesn't get that warm inside our house. The rest of the time it's set at 80 and both my husband and I are comfortable. We are also on the budget plan. Seemed to save us quite a bit, but basically our AC is off during those 3 hours.

I tried this and it absolutely does not work for me. I have a single story ranch style with two new 4-ton units. My entry and living room have 20+ high ceilings. I also have a lot of windows and sliders. There are sunshades and solar window coverings on all windows. East/West facing. All pre-cooling did was keep me freezing during the day and cause my rates to go up, despite turning my AC completely off during peak hours. What makes more sense is good insulation in exterior walls and attics, good window insulation, and HVAC system maintenance. I keep my thermostat at 77 or 78 during peak hours, turn up to 80 at 4 pm, and only run one unit at a time. No point in cooling bedrooms I'm not using during the day. Honestly, what made the difference was replacing my 29 year old Tranes with new AC's. My summer bills went down $200+ a month. When I go to bed at night the new AC cools the room down in a matter of minutes.

@charliebyerly3931 0 seconds ago I tried cooling starting at 5:30am right before the sun hit the house and yeah it got cool until about 10-10:30 and then the temp in the house just started going up and up, no matter what its set at. Since then Aug 22, I replaced the South facing roof with a white Cool Roof hoping it would help... Last year it was 87-90" in here even tho it was set at 80. So far this year, I'm doing 78 until 10, then 76 until 4pm, then its 80 and set back to 78 at 7:30 and its working so far, but its only end of May. Heat pump can only do about 20° cooler than outside temps, so come July it won't be able to stay 80 in here. A Honeywell Turbo Fan saved me last year tho. Keeps me cooler. Also I keep juice popsicles, cheese sticks and tube yogurt in the freezer to help cool me down. House built 77-81, still have builders single draft pane windows and drafty doors

With all of the testing that I’ve done in my older Scottsdale home I have concluded that pre-cooling or super cooling is not effective at all in fact it uses more energy than just staying at one steady temp, with the way these older houses are built, especially mine within the first hour of on peak usage 4-5pm it doesn’t matter how cold the house is going into “on peak” as soon as the temp is raised the house warms up within the first 30 minutes and then the AC continues to run constantly racking up the bill.

I hear you. I live in Yuma - when you get temperatures as high as 120 you don't leave your A/C at 70!! I would freeze if my house was 70! At night I cool it down to around 72 so I can sleep, but daytime it's set at 83 or maybe 82. Some of these people evidently don't live in Southern Arizona.🥵🌵

I feel keeping the temp at an even resonable temp would save more energy. If its 110 outside and between 4 and 7 your home gets into the high 80s, then the 7 o'clock kick down starts, the AC doesnt stop running all Flippin night. How is this helping? We never set thermostat lower than 76 at night but that hottest part of the day plays havoc on the AC. Just BS😢

@@KathyBarnes-se5kv I agree with you! If I turn my air up to 85F during 4-7pm then by 7pm it WILL run all night to get it down again. But if I keep it at a constant 80F then it usually shuts off at night. Pre-cooling doesn't work.

It depends on many factors: your home’s insulation, components (tile and hard surfaces hold the cold better/longer), window efficiency, A/C units age/efficiency. And if you are on a TOU with DEMAND plan, supercooling definitely helps. It’s that DEMAND CHARGE that’s the killer, and a lot of people don’t understand how it works. We’ve lived in Goodyear (definitely southern AZ), and it took us a few years to figure it all out. 76-77° at night, we start cooling to around 72° up to the peak time (4-7 pm). Off/way up from 4-7. It doesn’t usually get warmer than 78° during those hours. We do this to a lesser degree when away for travel, to avoid that demand charge. Our bill is $141/month on level pay (just increased from $125, before that it was $115). Worth it for us. 3,000 sq ft home, 2 stories/2 AC units, no pool.

Been doing this with our 2 story, east facing house for several years. Our budget billing has been the same for several years now. I set the upstairs at 71 and the downstairs at 73 at 2pm. At 4, I set the upstairs to 79 and the downstairs to 81. At 7, I turn set the upstairs to 74-76, and the downstairs to 76-78. Usually, at 7pm, the upstairs is right around 78-79, and the downstairs is a nice 77. It helps that we have new windows upstairs, I use solar shades on the back patio to keep the sun off the porch, and we have trees in the backyard as well. Pre-cooling works for us!

This doesn’t work unless your house is well insulated. Plus if you are home all day, it isn’t comfortable. And my West facing rooms become super warm by 7pm and do not cool down before bedtime.

Super cooling does not work with an older home as I have had my home Weatherlization done everything I keep mine like a lot of my friends at one temperature I had a lower it this year and it stays at 79 if you're super cool it turn it off turn your air conditioner on again you're working it much harder so this works for newer homes from what I've seen and heard not with older homes and I had everything updated keep it at one temperature

Hi, Theresa. Just to clarify, APS does not suggesting to turn off your air conditioner. That is just what some customers do. We suggest to cool at a lower temperature and then when On-peak starts, raise the temperature to 78 to 80 degrees, or higher if you are comfortable with a higher temperature. On-peak hours are only from 4pm - 7pm on weekdays. You can learn more about precooling at aps.com/precool and by visiting our site at aps.com/save. We appreciate the opportunity to serve you.
