There's a great advantage of doing the race where there's the celebration at the end and someone there to meet you that knows what it took. I ran this on my own on the 24th May 2023, and got to Ft William at 6am to an empty town and no great fanfare. I mostly enjoyed the run, and met some great characters on the trail over the 24 ish hours it took me. I think the next time I'll enter one of the races. Great video, and brought back some good memories of my self created adventure.
Who cares about who and who hasn't been featured. It's a fantastic video and it was a very memorable day. Great to be amonst liked minded people who just love to run. Keep up the amazing work. 🙏
Watched this hoping to see one of the three friends I have who ran this but they're all women and you don't seem to want to feature those 😕 Had to wait until 2m29s of a 2m54s film to see an easily identifiable woman. Shame.
Hi @Moagie1 Thanks for your feedback. This race is one of my favourites to capture since being a young lad. I am fortunate enough to know so many of the athletes, crew and marshals who attend these events every year - and was delighted to have been asked to film the official video for this years race. As you may know, the weather conditions this year were incredibly difficult for everyone taking part including myself with a digital camera. I tried my hardest to capture as many people who were taking part in this event and include them into this short video. As a solo camera operative it can be challenging making checkpoints when the field is so vast and scattered, so I was thankful to include the first male and female athletes when they arrived in Fort William. I’m sorry you feel like this, it was truly not my intention and I will take on board what you have said. Josh
Hi Moagie... I think you should watch the video again without bias. The only 'shame' is the negativity here. Josh is a very talented young videographer who put his heart and soul into capturing the essence of the race, and deeply unfair feedback like this is very unhelpful. Your comment clearly implies that the he is sexist!?! This could not be further from the truth. There are women easily identifiable as early as 10 seconds in (and several times throughout). You may not have seen your friends, but there were hundreds of runners so impossible to feature all in a short highlights video. The way this race unfolded and the gender of the front runners reaching various checkpoints while camera was still there bears no responsibility on the videographer. I was photographer and thankfully our team are very well known and appreciated in the ultra community, so the idea of us somehow being purely male orientated is laughable :) We have been overwhelmed by messages of thanks from everyone else involved in the DOTH.
@@MonumentMediaUK thanks for your carefully considered and pleasant reply. I'm sure there was no conscious effort to exclude women. The ladies I know all loved the race.
@@monumentphotos9481 I should have specified easily identifiable women runners, rather than volunteers in my original comment. I have to say that you're right about Josh, his reply was far more pleasant and understanding than this, he clearly has a real passion for his work and is willing to take on feedback. I wish him all the very best in capturing and editing many future races.
@@Moagie1 Thank you. My response certainly wasn't meant to be unpleasant - that's the opposite character from the kind of person I always try to be. I was just frustrated that instead of people showing gratitude and support (which the ultra community is very much full of usually thankfully), that comments being posted here were harsh feedback instead. Josh is my son, and is trying hard to build a successful videography business so I'm glad you wish him all the very best in future races. This event was the hardest conditions I have personally worked in. (My £5,500+ camera packed in as a result of water damage) so I know how much commitment it takes being out in freezing wind and rain for hours to try and capture memories. Its a labour of love which is why I suppose I felt the need to defend him. I apologise if I came across the wrong way. Thank you.
