Fun fact, the band who created the second song (magic fly) also created music used for british rail provincial's training music (final signal) for a period of time.
Great video. From the other comment I read. If you still have the original footage with the original sounds. I use a freeware video editor that is called DaVinci Resolve. So if you wanted to try that editor to avoid losing the sounds. It might be worth a look. I liked the video none the less and I grew up with these units back in the day. Thanks for sharing mate.
If you liked this video, you might also enjoy, "A Coat of Many Colours" These video's were edited to fit with the music which sets the tempo and give form. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LoDrw5Oxe4I.html
Wow, brilliant video! I am just wondering if it would okay to use some of this footage for a video I am doing on Virgin XC? I would, of course, give appropriate credit, but it would help me hugely :D
Excellent filming. Must be rare now, taken as it was during the brief transition between the OLE going up after resignalling from Watford Junction Power Box and the end of all steam traction through there. Had all the electrification trains not been busy during this time, the junior me would probably not have taken any interest in railways. Shows all that new contact wire getting a fair coating of soot!
I thought the 4 carriage Class 377s didn't enter service until 2004 when South Central Trains was rebranded Southern, and we only had the 3 Carriage Class 377/3s in 2003 alongside the Class 421/423 Slam Door Trains
I was born October 68 I was 2 weeks old when this was taken and my grandad lived in hawthorn square he worked in the harbour and my dad’s brothers worked at dawdon and vane tempest
I was on this line last week now known as the Eskdale Line. Nothing much has changed in 60 years except perhaps some of the signaling. The stations still carry the same charm as they did then. Well worth a trip!
This video got me into Madonna. That was back in 2015. On another note, I've heard that Virgin Trains is coming back. Fingers and toes crossed that happens.
Superb atmospheric filming of a post coal industrial waste land . Could apply to much of Up North Areas. As a Londoner born and Bred we had plenty of dereliction post ww2 and huge decline in the huge docklands area and asskciated industries, but the one difference was being so near to huge Capital (World) City the area has partially reused as a brand new financial district and now many years later lots of housing and entertainment. I remember taking my late wife thru docklands in early eighties she was born nearly Dockside and after driving she turned to me with tears in her eyes and said lets go home i said why ? She i wouldvrather remember it as was alive with people and children poor hard working but alive, this dereliction makes me sad. Iam lucky being a suburban Londoner what i remember is still here like Epping Forest things have changed but slowly not wholesale destruction of an industry and way of life, in fact i live 600 yds from i was born and the park round the corner i played in as a child and stll walk the dog so that spans nearly 70 years..
I used to work for BR Southern Region when these first started to be delivered. Of course the first six units were delivered painted in the wrong shade of blue and remained that way for quite some time...
I know this line well, having watched goods trains using it (Hemelte). But where's the rest of it? Redbourne the Halts etc & it's joing with the maain line at Harpenden??
The only 455s left are the ones running on SWR but they are due to be replaced by the 701s..SWR also made a bittersweet reminder of that they don’t have long left by repainting 455 868 in br blue. And I rlly love the SWT and connex livery same go3s for southern..!
Because the original was 8mm cine film. In those days you could not record sound on 8mm cine stock. Sound could only be dubbed on from sound recordings which were few and far between, as portable sound recorders were rare and very expensive. Not many recordings exist from the early 1960's.
Connex South Central used then on the Gatwick Airport to Rugby Service. When Southern took over the service ran from various places starting with Watford Junction to Brighton then from Milton Keynes to Brighton, before what we have now.
Great images here . There was certainly something special about the station and surrounding yard at Hemel Hempstead . I believe the main building was demolished and the site cleared in early 1970 . A real shame to say the least .
