Great review - I have a 2003 TD6 HSE model in the Uk - the engine is very underrated in my opinion. One of BMW's most reliable engines being the first M57 with iron block and in the Range rover with no swirl flaps either! My only complaint is the engine noise at town speeds - it is exaggerated by the gearbox that slips sooo much during acceleration - it's an American box intended for lighter vehicles so I believe that's why it slips so much due to the weight it has to move. As you said once up to highway speed when the torque converter locks up its much quieter. I will be testing some mass loaded vinyl sound barrier in the engine bay soon to damp down the noise
@@stevek3036 Thanks! I couldn't agree with you more. Yes, engine sound at town speed is little bit too much. I didn't know that gearbox slipping is a thing for these vehicles, but it seems that it's quite possible. Let me know how it goes with the sound barrier! :)
Nice car! Mine has 427k kms. Btw. the chance is pretty high that your turbo is still good. A common problem is the seal between the turbo and exhaust manifold. I replaced mine twice but with cheap ebay ones. Buy an original one and replace the exhaust manifold if you have still the original aluminium one that cracks. Enjoy!
@@Salubrious101 depends on your needs, because as a daily driver it's fully capable of driving from point A to B and faster then underpowered smaller cars. And in harsh winters it's much faster then Fwd cars on the streets. If you want more power, with just 2k investment you can pump up power to more then 300hp with bigger turbo, intercooler and injectors. Good v8 will cost around 15-20k which is a lot more.
@@stop_lying_bro true, but i just offered a solution. It has to be fully built to hold that power increase. 20hp more would not be a big problem. A lot of services don't know how to properly restore these gearboxes. I had an X5 prefecalift with the same gearbox and i had to restore it, because it ate itself (previous owner restored it in service which don't what they are doing). After i done this service, i drove 50 000km without any problems and next owner still drives without problems. I drove quite harsh sometimes, car had more power and torque then Range Rover and it was only 300+ kg lighter so pretty similiar cars.
Hello! Currently a 550i M owner. I've been through alot with her. I bought it in great conditon from a local bmw dealer in my town. 11k. 80,000 miles. Flawless body. No faded paint. Coolant system was overhauled. After 3 years. Ive replaced the valley pan and pipe, headlights, brakes, rotors, fuel rail.. ill never sell it. Ill rebuild the engine again, before i sell her. Thats how much i love my E60. And its really insane because all these newer bmws. I get questions all the time and, shes gets alot of attention all these years later. I did a carfax report. And found out she sat in hawaii for 4 years while a soldier was on deployment i think..then she went to Indianapolis..then to North Carolina where i purchased it here..were now going on 5 years together
@@DakotaWoods-pu4bz Hello! That's a nice story and congrats on this nice car! Sadly i already sold my E60 after 5 years of ownership. I wanted a manual, but since there was no manual cars on the market i bought e90 330i.
Great cars hey man! love these cars. I'm usually a VW guy, but have owned an old LR like yours for a year now, best downgrade i've ever made. Offroad it's fantastic and I never worry it.
@@StevenOyston as mentioned in this site below, there are several problems -cracked pistons, egr problems, burnt out o-rings on fuel nozzles etc. In my opinion M57 is better engine, but you'll never know what will go wrong. Every car is different and well maintained car with bad reputation can outlast very reliable cars. www.enginefinder.co.za/toyota-1kd-ftv-problems/
Range Rovers now are a complete joke in Europe. Security is so thin, you can start the newer ones with a laptop beside the car. Insurance companies will not insure them in high crime cities. And workshops will not work on them, as they have to break cheap plastic fixings as they work on them, and can't finish fixing them! Glow plugs just glue themselves into the engine head, as well as being the most unreliable car on the road at the moment! If you see one driving he is most probably on the way from....or going to......another workshop 😊
Whoa had this 330i for 3 years, thanks for showing what it can be with the right mods - exhaust to open up engine sound and LSD to make it go sideways!
@@carguy0446 How do. Or as we Aussies say GIDDAY ‘OWS IT GOIN’. Which translates into GOOD DAY HOW ARE U. LoL. So Gidday is a abbreviation of Good day. LoL.
Yes, because of the electronics. Dtc is not completely turning off with just push of a button. Common problem with these cars. To shut down Dtc, you have to pull out Abs sensors, or fuses.
Wrong statement. Facelift e53 were made from 2004 to 2007. Only downside for prefacelift was gearbox reliablity and power, but even so, i like gear change smoothness and Awd system on pref more. Awd system is from same era Range Rovers and works all the time 62/38.
Hello! You can look up more videos on this channel. There will be more videos with e46 325i, e39 540i and other cars, e36 328i as you saw in this video, is already gone.
