"The Bimbofication of Pyramid Head" This will live rent free in my head for quite a while Ecdycis, thank you. I will say this looks a lot better than what I've been expecting out of Konami, really glad and really just happy to see this game looking better. Combat still seems a bit too intensive personally, but that feels more of a nit-pick at this time.
This game is like Silent Hill 2 but inside the last of us 2. The combat is so similar, plus there’s holes in walls James shimmies through, James writing on his map. Plus they made Maria less sexy, but they did make Eddie way uglier so it’s funny.
Eddie looks fantastic, also the current style is heavily based on RE2Make. The horror genre really liked that game and it influenced a TON of modern gaming
@@Ecdycis yeah RE2remake did influence a lot of modern gaming but when I see the melee animations (especially the melee) going through holes in walls, James actually picking up items and looking at them in hand and letting the player rotate it, and the map writing, I see a lot of the Last of Us 2 influence.
@@JellyJman so for a few notes on that. The Melee for some reasons reminds me a lot more Callisto Protocol. James grabbing items is the Bloober special, all of their games do this. Map writing has always been in Silent Hill to various degrees. The original game also had holes in walls but seamlessly going through them has happened in a lot more games like earlier Silent Hill western games and The Evil Within off the top of my head

Silent Hill 2 and Dead Rising 1 are two of my top five games of all time. The fact that both are getting remade and released within a few weeks of each other is awesome.

I'm still very sceptical about this game cause it seems that it leans more to the action aspect than the horror (it looks like re). Graphically it looks very good and i hope they tuned a bit the models of the cast cause some of the looked wonky (i want to see a clear view of angela tbh). Lastly the camera shake when you hit enemies seems way to excessive to me.
No, it sure as hell does NOT. This god-awful DEImake is literally all the worst fears and silliest old memes come reality. The new story trailer, which copies the 2001's reveal trailer, literally starts off with the iconic cell scene. The lighting, composition, and acting is absolutely abysmal compared to the 2001 original. It literally ruins the characters, mood and purpose of the scene. Fast forward to the gameplay trailer, and we are greeted with yet another nu-RE4 style over-shoulder slop, with the yellow paint meme being used alongside with the videogamey button prompts and other UI elements. Inventory is totally eliminated and replaced with a quick heal buttons. And the combat = literal Homecoming 2.0.
Silent Hill 2 was originally a nu-RE style game. The yellow paint seems incredibly minimal from what we’ve seen if you’re referencing the dumpster. The original game as well as pretty much most of this type required button mashing or QTEs to escape grabs. Silent Hill 2 HAD quick heals and inventory heals. This is not homecoming, again this is following the current trend of every game wanting to be RE2Make, if anything it looks more like Callisto

SH2 is considered to be most iconic title in the series and really encapsulates what “Silent Hill” is all about, not to mention its self-contained story making it a safer choice to remake and perhaps will revive the franchise with a bang. Remaking SH2 first is a good move, since SH2 really focus on the town of Silent Hill itself, which properly introduce those who are new to the series to the town before proceeding to the cult storylines of SH1, SH3 and SH4 (plus SH3 is a direct sequel to SH1 so it’d make more sense to remake SH3 after SH1 instead of SH2).

Anyone claiming otherwise is an underaged toddler who not only was not even alive when the OG trilogy came out, but outright hates everything the classic survival horror used to be. It's THE warning example of how bad things have gone the past 15 years in the industry, and exactly what SH fans were afraid of happening to their games next. It's just silly how the same crowd shilling REM2 or 4 tend to also shit on the REM3, no matter that it's exactly the same trash.

The SH1 itself is all about psychological horror, and it indeed fleshes out the town and SH's world WAY MORE than 2 ever did. It's also a scarier game, and a better survival horror game, with better replay value.
Please go play the original games. They are timeless masterpieces, and absolutely overshadow this lazy cashgrab demake. And don't skip any of the games. SH1 is a must-play.
as many others already stated, it looks "okayish" for bloober, especially them doing combat for the first time. the story cant be judged or praised if its not changed because that is a 10/10 given. IF it is not changed that is............. i just hope they stick to the original story, even though i wouldnt mind if they add a TON of sidequest and sidestorys, kinda like downpour did with all those riddles scattered around silent hill. the graphic is good enough in my opinion, i give it a 6,5/10. the animations however are 5/10 for me, everything looks "off", but not in a silent hill good way, but in an awkward way. combat looks janky, but that is "ok" in the world of silent hill, combat was/is ALWAYS jank, 7/10 for me. sound and music seems fine and fuses og with new stuff, its cool 8/10. so overall, only judging by the trailers of course and without the story, i would give it a 6,5/10. seems low, but if i add the total awesome story to it, it might be a 8/10 for a new player. and again, that is only my opinion on the trailers so far. for me PERSONALY, the most important factor on my rating when playing, will be on what they will do with the town itself. and i hope you can go into like every second house and find all kinds of secrets, sidequests, scares and maybe even a bunch of more characters, or in other words, turning the town into somewhat open world, without changing the OG story and main path. also archivables and challenges play a big roll in silent hill games, and ESPECIALLY in the OG silent hill 2. this has the POTENTIAL of becomming a 9.5/10, even with the jank combat and animations. sorry for the long text, i guess we all just hope for a really good game <3. oh and greetings from germany ecdycis. big fan of your "speedruns explained" series!!!!!!
1. Bloober isn’t a bad studio and people over hate them, they’ve released bangers before like Observer 2. They specifically pushed hard to avoid significant story changes since originally there was desire to be less faithful. The original devs seem to have come around a bit and agree at this point. 3. From what we can see and what they mentioned the world is much more open already and you can enter many shops and buildings previously closed. I know people are worried but this latest trailer and game teaser has been excellent and they listened to criticism from the older ones. I have a great feeling about it
to me this is the most non-controversy in recent memory. this looks amazing and they seem to create an great game with awesome graphics. naturally they can´t recapture the original but noone could; it´s pure magic. the characters look fantastic and so does the world

It's utterly insane that a 2001 console game looks outright BETTER than the 2024 UE5 demake. Yes, we can do direct comparisons now, thanks to the new trailer copying the old 2001 reveal trailer nearly 1:1.
I'm quite optimistic with this trailer. I do say it feels a little heavy handed to be cutting to James playing the tape, since those who know KNOW. Eddie looks great.
I don't understand the need for a remake ("developer fan fiction"), except for you know, extracting more money from a wider audience. To my knowledge they only have 2 members of the original staff (which IMO is not enough to capitalize on the name of the original game), and regardless there's too many egregious changes gameplay-wise and storytelling-wise (down to the voice direction -- the latest trailers confirmed the direction they're going with). The Dead Rising remake looks to have the same kind of egregious changes to it... and all remakes that claim to replace the original, really. Something as simple as the Clock Tower re-release (if you can call it that) has more artistic integrity behind it.
I completely agree. It's even more sad, outright insulting, knowing that Bluepoops literally cockblocked the ex-TS' members idea for a brand NEW story, a new game. Even they were painfully aware that they could only make cheap knockoffs of old titles. They then arrogantly preach how they value "authenticity", but then go and make the game into yet another TLOU-reskin movie game DEI-make, with combat stolen from the Homecoming, with VA job as bad as in the notorious SH HD Collection... And of course the young TikTok audience that's "excited to play SH2 for the very first time" don't realize nor care of any of these issues, and just ignore criticism with silly memes.
Remake culture proves to be continuously successful, I like what we’ve seems with both, I should mention especially that I don’t think either game has game ruining changes. If you want to see a questionable remake look at Lollipop Chainsaw, we are likely eating good with these two. Clock Tower isn’t a remake, it’s a straight port with community add ons that already exist. It’s incredibly hard to mess this up unless they pull a Zombies Ate My Neighbors
@@GugureSux Agree, the "authenticity" stuff falls flat because, by virtue of the game being remade in the current year in the first place, you have to say good bye to a lot of the risque elements that don't fly nowadays. I even imagine Konami just thought Bloober would be desperate enough to agree to a remake. When the original game was made, there already was an ongoing controversy about violence in video games, and although consulting firms weren't trying to leech on to video game dev studios and publishers yet, I still think it was lucky that the game didn't become some politician's pet issue (like it would happen later with games such as GTA San Andreas and Rule of Rose). And I also agree that an entirely new game would not rub as many people the wrong way, myself included.
@@Ecdycis Maybe people are still buying remakes, but there's also a growing sentiment that companies churning out remakes are creatively bankrupt. I think that people will eventually burn out on seeing their favorite titles become modern games not sharing enough elements with the games they fell in love with originally. Another effect worth considering: people that were fans of the original might feel alienated when they see the "community"/discussion steer away from the game they liked. I don't think remakes necessarily "introduce older titles to wider audiences" as they tend to advertise either. I'd rather recommend RE newcomers RE4 Original over RE4 Remake, because RE4 Original has that arcade-heavy design that still holds up, whereas RE4 Remake follows the template created by the original game and the result is more generic than the original. People that buy the Remake to experience the game for the first time might not even understand what the rave was all about in the first place. Bottom line, I think people will be tired of the trend sooner than later. Also, sorry, I didn't mean to imply the new Clock Tower release is an example of a remake, I was trying to point out that a simple port/rerelease with some nooks and crannies has a less contentious justification for existing, and I think the idea of adding more accessibility options (e.g., the rewind function) is more sound.
It's a strange time when I have more faith in this than the DR remake. Konami still should put 2-4 on steam, it's literally free money since all the pc ports still work iirc.

I do prefer Maria's performance in the original, but it was going to be impossible to top that. This performance seems more bland and stilted. The jail cell scene in particular seems much better in the original. The subtle shifts in vocal tone and facial expressions seem to be missing here. Otherwise everything else looks great.
The cell scene is absolutely butchered, but so are the characters themselves. TS themselves stated that Maria should be a perfect being that looks "too perfect" in every single scene... and if you go through the 2001 SH2's scenes frame by frame, you can see that they were not kidding. And let's not ignore the elephant in the room, that is the god-awful nu-gameplay, that copies both Homecoming's action-oriented combat, and nu-RE4's yellow paint memes... because of course you can no longer do subtle player guidance with camera-angles and lighting in a over-shoulder action game.
Like with RE games I like to enjoy them separate to each other, you can’t have the remake without the original and both can be enjoyable. I’m excited for this to come out

I actually thought Maria was kinda underperforming here and was this close to writing it all off, but i started listening to it again and realized this actress knows exactly what she's doing with this scene (its lowkey brilliant). Eddie looks really good too, really happy with what Bloober has done with him from this alone. Actually really looking forward to SH2R at this rate.
I don't know what you are hearing, as I am only hearing yet another SH HD Collection -tier monotononous muttering that destroys the DOUBLE characterization of the scene. Not to mention the lighting and cinematography unironically look way worse, even less realistic than in the 2001 original SH2. Plus highlights how far from "a perfect woman" creature the nu-Maria is.

this was a cool one always wanted to see how you would do a run were you are not restricted to some dumb weapon and nothing against your chat but im pretty sure you could do a challenge were they specifically told you to do it and they would still complain for you to do something else
That happens everytime. That being said for recent ones there have been a few where the gimmick isn’t weapon based and it was incredibly simple. I believe Hunger Challenge had this

My favourite part about Fly Routine is that it's not just a song about rapping, but about how Shootie actually loses the rap battle and then just hangs out and smokes weed with the other rapper after. lmfao It's a wholesome song really~
Taking upskirt pics without a reward is like playing Tony Hawk Pro Skater and doing tricks that don’t give you points.
