Love every interview I see with Laura because she’s so well spoken and very “fuck that” and it’s great to see- she seemed super comfortable in this interview- great one!

Hi there! I've been following you for a while. Love your in depth questions, you have a gift. Thanks for sharing, I'm a huge BE fan and love your content.
It's so cool, and fitting, that Oberst started off making these DIY lo=fi recordings in his music, but only recently has the opportunity come to kind of match this in his interviews with the access to internet content levelling the playing field. He is better suited to a podcast nterview than any kind of music article sin the past could do justice to, well done. And also, fair play to Connor for doing it, because your "lo=fi" setup is so in line with the album formats he created. Writing about birds is cool.
I love that too. I chose to believe it was poetic that both of us had such horrendous connection. Honestly the only reason it's legible at all is that we both hit record on our iPhones and set them on the table so that the audio was captures separately without the connectivity issues. Anyways thanks and LO FI FOR LIFE.
it feels oddly vindicative to hear conor say mcr is a great band, as someone who's been an obsessive fan of both for so long. maybe phoebe bridgers helped him come around? i remember gerard (singer in mcr) calling conor oberst one of his favourite songwriters some 15 years ago, so I think the respect is mutual :D great interview, thanks for putting it out there!
Cassadaga is one of my favorite albums of all time.....middleman...genius..."the dead will hide beneath the ground and the birds will always fly......but the rest of us, do what we must,in a constant compromise"...........wow how true.when that lyric hit me...genuis
Fun interview. I discovered Bright Eyes through a girl who sent me Lover I Don't Have to Love during the pandemic to imply a certain something. Conor's music has stuck with me since, insane how much a 21 year old version of himself during LIFTED got so many mature and complex feelings laid out across it and let out in such a magnificent way. Truly is one of our greatest musicians.
I posted a clip you can use and some information on my community page @JaymePaladino I'm an aquarist basically a fish keeper not a marine biologist but i know who Thor Hanson is...
I'm probably supposed to ask before I remix your videos but I meant it to be helpful. I had to backup/redo everything recently and I don't know what I'm doing. I'm not a jerk, if that is exploitative or something 🤔. I only started posting things a couple months ago. You can block me ♥️
I knew I'd eventually get this one posted but I had to go in and manually sync up the audio and video every like 15 seconds because the connection was so brutal. Not perfect but not too bad! Thanks Jayme!
I love having it! You work so hard to put this out and I appreciate all of it. I've already listened to the clips but i need to hear Conor talk so it's good. He's my bedtime talker
Awesome. Great job by the interviewer. Good questions and prompts. Learned a lot about the inner workings of this fantastic song writer and the scenes he took part in. Thanks! Sorry, that I can't resist though...NPR not being incredibly biased? NPR not even having a liberal slant? 😊 It's the States propaganda arm! But im being playful. I've got friends on all camps. I've got no hate for either side. Most folks want the best, we just have competing strategies as to how to get there.
Fair point about NPR. You're pretty much right but I do think they at least angle for some semblance of neutral reporting if you compare them to niche podcasts or cable news shows on both sides that don't even bother at all. But yeah, fair point.
This guy sucks as an interviewer. Jackson tells him poignant things, yet he doesn't even listen. Oh, he hears it, but it doesn't register whatsoever, because instead of TRULY listening to Jackson, he's got this big ego to feed. Yup. Know this. You are a horrendous interviewer. To do this to Jackson Browne is disgusting. Jackson simply goes along, as he's far too polite to hurt this guy's feelings. Guaranteed - Jackson will NEVER give him another interview.
So glad I found this, even if months after. They are for sure my favorite band of all time. I love basically all of bright eyes, including peoples key even though it was a little new agey for me 😂 I love all of Conor’s solo stuff too. I’ve gone through a million changes in my life and been through a lot but I’ve continued to be a huge fan. Can’t wait to see bright eyes again in October!
Great interview. I wonder, though, how can Jackson talk so frankly about his musicians, solos etc., and never once - unless I missed it - talk about David Lindley? I often thought that Brown and Lindley were like "a hand in a glove". Is there something I missed?
That's sort of on me! I bet he'd have gone into it if I asked. If you check out the For Everyman, Late for the Sky and Pretender episodes of the podcast we talk about Lindley a TON. Not the same as Jackson talking about him but yeah, Lindley's the man. I still see the 30-ish Jackson Browne looking at us through those eyes. Sure, I had heard _Doctor My Eyes_ when it was getting a lot of airplay, but the first time I heard _The Pretender_ I knew I had heard one of the greatest *records* ever written. THAT piano, THAT voice, the sound of THAT band, *AND THOSE LYRICS* Wow! 🧨
I have always been a Jackson Browne fan, and it was fun for me to learn that Jackson Browne's mother, Beatrice Koeppel, was my teacher. I was in the Creative Writing Club that she sponsored, and I often wonder if Jackson ever read MY words in our club's publication, The Paper Bag. John H. Francis Polytechnic High School, 1975-1977
My dad and all of his siblings when to Poly High as well and one of my uncles took her class. Very cool that you were in Jackson Browne's mom's Creative Writing Club!
I thought soul singer was about being an artist no one cares about or listens too. The post modern writer is just a friend that rights books that no one reads and that’s why he used to be a hopeless romantic but now turns tricks and pimps himself out. Right?
Found this in a random reddit comment. Really can't wait to hear the rest of the season. I grew up as a die hard Bright Eyes guy in high school and discovered a life-long love for lyricism, grand music production, and personal storytelling through art through his music. This interview was really great, humanizing and a joy to listen to. Thanks for making this!!
