Nas, a Fan since 1996! Back in those days Nas was kicking it so hard with the album It was Written, but he remained underground up until 2002 when God's Son came out! From that point on he is a legendary commercial succes, all over the world!
@@user-ly4zl6ix3e but he sold a lot in the first week and was on the billboard. Also he was beefing with pac at the time which pac was a superstar at the time
ABOVE ground, underground FUUUUUR REAAAAL!! Check. Rapper's rapper fuuurr real! Check again! Social media is the devil.... Check again, well a lil. lol ;-)
Vic 2.0 no disrespect bro has far as a lyrisists no one not even my favorite rapper Nas can touch Rakim in that category it's a reason why he's called Rakim the God/Allah ask anyone from new york and ask them who's the king of new york 80 percent of them would say Rakim Allah
***** Of course Nas is responsible, as is the other gentlemen on this video. Michael promotes victimhood and blaming black people's lack of economic success on fictitious racism, in what way is this not damaging to the black community? How is encouraging an entire community of people to not take responsibly for their lives, and suggesting it is other people's fault not destructive? And Nas, in what way is producing music which encourages crime, violence and racism not degrading to the community it is targeted to? Surely your comment was a typo or youre trolling.
***** It is not debatable that widespread racism is not a major problem in America anymore. Was is a major problem in 1950? Yes. During this time there was legislation which disenfranchised blacks which gave them a major disadvantage to being successful economically. Is racism a major problem in 2014? Unequivocally no. The economic playing field is completely even; in fact, due to affirmative action, blacks have a greater advantage to succeed economically versus non-minority races. Do a few individuals still have racist beliefs? No doubt, but a few peoples personal opinions is 'oppression' obviously. If I personally think blacks are inferior to other races, this isn't racism which oppresses blacks; my opinion doesn't affect other people. Remember, we must all take responsibility for our actions and not blame others for our shortcomings; this applies to everyone. Again, no oppression exists in the US today against blacks. Oppression is racism which causes disadvantages in the market place (white-only universities, etc), but these types of laws haven't been around in over 50 years. And again, the marketplace is not only even for blacks and whites, it is tipped in the favor of blacks by policies like diversity training and affirmative action If you believe there is significant racial oppression in the US today, I must conclude that you are not living in the same world as the rest of us. I'll politely advise you to leave out the ad hominem; lets engage in a discussion about culture and policy, but resorting to personal attacks will only cause you to lose credibility. Take this as a friendly reminder.
Dick Gregory You sound like a closed minded person... I'll never understand why the average person thinks ALL hip hop promotes violence and crime..That's like saying everyone who eats eggs, wants their eggs sunny side up... If people would actually listen, they would understand hip hop is about what goes on in the lives of the rappers. They're not promoting anything, they're just speaking on what they've had to endure... Don't expect them to talk about "sunshines and rainbows" when they may not have even be able to sleep at night, cause there's gunshots being fired all throughout the night... And if you were truly for the "advancement of black people" you'd want someone to talk about these issues and bring light to the problems, so as a race we could try to fix them.... #justsaying
Even better than saying who's best how about we just respect greatness, nas is a great lyricist point blank in the same category as talib, black thought, Andre 3k, rakim, krs, mos def, etc. Just great with a pen and paper, respect, jay is great in his own right and crossing into the mainstream swaying away from too much social commentary or being boxed in as a political rap artist like, big l, big pun, biggie, etc. They're in their own lane with rhyme schemes and metaphorical punchline raps, respect, and artists like tupac who's my personal favorite didn't have the technical ny lyricism like the rest he was upfront and honest with what he spit like minimalism with his words but it hit your heart like a knife because you felt his pain or whatever he was saying like (IMO) pimp c, chuck d, scarface, etc. So just respect the art form like they do in the rock culture, pop, jazz, blues, whatever just listen to good music and all these guys and more deliver exactly that!
Randy Savage It's easy to pick and choose the lyrics to fit your argument. Why not select excerpts from "Black Girl Lost", or "I Can", "Hero"? Clearly you understand that as an artist he will have complexities and multiple points of views, just like every human being walking the face of the Earth does.
Anthony Anderson He glorifies violence and being a wanna-be gangster. Millions of young men idolize him, that's the problem, if you refuse to acknowledge it, then you are only kidding yourself.
Randy Savage he doesn't glorify violence any more than a Hollywood director does. He's a storyteller. Going by your logic Shakespeare glorified violence too.
Buster Brown And you are one person. To disagree with the list is one thing, but to act as if it is not credible because one of your personal favorite rappers isn't in it is silly. And by the way, I don't think Talib Kweli belongs anywhere near the top 5.
Man O'Neal Of course you don't because you are a hip-hop illiterate who knows as much about hip hop and hip-hop lyricism as Fred Flinstone knows about Quantum Mechanics
Buster Brown My friend, I am far from a hip-hop illiterate. And you show your stupidity by suggesting that somebody who disagrees with you on a topic is automatically ignorant on said topic...as if you are the world expert on everything.
Nas is lyrically poetic when he raps. "Eloquence" on the mic could come off as mechanical and textbook lyricism. His formula has worked for the better part of 20 years and put him in the Top few categorie.
A lot of people can't speak as well or are possibly nervous. Elon Musk is a billionaire and is one of the greatest minds in the business world and he's a horrible speaker[and i'm being nice] not comparing the two, but it's possible.
I know I'm late to this party but that's why he's a hip hop artist and not a public speaker. That's like saying, why don't NFL receivers' draw well because they must be good with their hands.
The Source needs to go back and fix that. Nas is clearly the best lyricist, rapper or what ever else you want to call it. He hasn't been around all this time for nothing. Start giving him credit where it's do!
Jay not even top 10 as a lyricist...R.I.P. to my man pac but I feel like he not top 5 as a lyricist either..I would replace them with someone like KRS, Common, Andre 3k, Talib , Mos Def , Black Thought or Em
I'd put Pac in my top 5 cause he was the best at being blunt and straight up about what goes on in the black community and how even having fame as a black didn't make life any easier, just easier to get girls and money, but the fame makes everything else harder. I agree Jay-Z isn't top 10 either. But I put Pac ahead of Biggie cause besides Juicy, Biggie was just what we call a "WWE rapper" His lyrics were purely for entertainment. But other guys u mentioned I can see why you would put em ahead of Pac, Pac is usually brought down as a conscious rapper cause he covered the loud, pop branch of rap too.
Leakbros Reasonable Doubt can be top 10 but I think It other better albums that can be top 10 like Illmatic, It Takes a Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back or Fear of a Black Planet, Ready to Die, Criminal Minded, Paid in Full, Doe or Die,Only Bulit 4 Cuban Linx, Liquid Swords, Atliens, Midnight Marauders or Low End Theory , Mecca & The Soul Brother, Great Adventures of Slick Rick, Doggystyle, America Most wanted , The Chronic, Illadelph Halflife , Reachin a New Refutation of Time & Space & More
Brenden Johnson Pac was up there for maybe top 5 revolutionary rapper but never been the best or top 20 as for Sharp witty Phenomenon Wordplay & Rhyming Lyrical skills..too many other MCS were wittier on the mic than pac..just to name a few Nas, Krs, Chuck D, Rakim, Common, Biggie, Andre 3k, Big L, Pun, GZA, Black Thought, Talib, Mos def, Jada, Method, Rae, Slick Rick, Kane, AZ, Kool G, Rap, Scarface & more
2KILLAVILLE You just another hipster that thinks he or she is a rap/hip-hop know it all by down playing Pac and putting rappers and music most common people never heard of ahead of em. I know and love all those artists but Pac is still #1 as far as his words hitting you and feeling what he's rapping about. He was the best selling rapper before he even died for a reason.
