I love that scene. It's almost too obvious a shot, going into the mouth of the shark, a hint of what will happen to Quint later in the film. But maybe Jaws was one of the first films to use that kind of thing, i don't know. It's a classic and a great shot.
Elaine: So now Joe Mayo wants me to buy him a new coat. Jerry: Because you threw it out. Elaine: No, because I was in charge of the coats. It’s insane. Jerry: But you did actually throw his coat out the window. Elaine: But he doesn’t know that. As far as he knows, someone stole it. And that’s the person who should be held responsible. Jerry: But that’s you. Elaine: So I guess I’ll have to buy him a new coat, even though I don’t think I should be held responsible, which I am anyway.
Wait a second! I just realized, there are 4 people on the boat in that shot as it is heading out to sea. You can see Quint driving up top and down on the deck below, you can see Brody and Hooper but inside the cabin, you can see another person go by the door. Does anybody else here also see that ?
Interesting fact: the actor Ray Milland was originally chosen for Mortimer Duke. Unfortunately, he didn’t pass the insurance physical. Then it was proposed that Don Ameche could play the role. Ameche hadn’t made a film in 13 years and Landis actually asked one of the producers if he was dead. This movie practically brought Ameche out of his retirement. He went on to do a dozen more films and earned an Oscar for his role in _Cocoon_ Imagine if he didn’t take this role?
@@kdohertygizbur I wouldn’t say he didn’t “deserve” it. It was a well earned nomination. That year the field was tight. After seeing _Out of Africa_ I thought Klaus Maria Brandauer might win
@@HummaKavula-DontVoteForStupid oh I can easily say it was not deserved He wasn't even the best performance in the film That belongs to Wilford Brimley, especially the conversation with his grandson Name me 1 scene that was close to award calibre from Ameche Only his breakdancing scene and that wasn't even him
@@kdohertygizbur well, of course you can “easily” state your opinion. If opinions can’t be easily stated then what good are they? I saw all 5 performances that year. I thought KMB was the best because he played two characters in that film. Every year, I feel there’s at least one performance by someone who wasn’t nominated that was better than the someone who was. For example, I thought Willem Dafoe was worlds better than Ruffalo but he wasn’t even nominated. It just is what it is. The Academy is a peer-driven group. Maybe they saw something or appreciated something in Amerche’s performance? Not everyone can appreciate it. It’s all based on opinion. I was told when I was in high school debate that opinions are inarguable
@@HummaKavula-DontVoteForStupid he won because he was old. He was never nominated before, having been in the business since 1938 or 1939 and this was a nice comeback story He didn't factor in any of the critics voting and wasn't even nominated for a Golden Globe
The Eliot character was so arrogant, power drunk (and clueless) that it never even occurred to him that when Wilford Brimley's character told them at the outset that he was going to have someone's ass in his briefcase that it was going to be his. If he was half as smart as he thought he was he would have realized that it was going to be him the moment he walked into the room.
Unfortunately, too many prosecutors turn out this way. They are given tremendous power, even life and death (they decide who to try to kill with the death penalty). Judge's have to listen to them and are intimidated by them. Jurors love them because they are the guys in the white hat. And sometimes they just become power-mad. They are very annoying.

All these total idiots taking shots at President Biden. That is totally sick. They'd rather support the traitor, liar, con-artist, unqualified to lead, self-serving fool than a decent, caring, intelligent, qualified gentleman.
