Hayden Powell is a trumpet player and composer based in Oslo, Norway. British by birth, Powell moved to Norway as a child and grew up in Molde. He works in a variety of styles - primarily jazz and improvised music - and released his debut album as a bandleader, The Attic, in September 2011. This was followed in 2013 by the album Roots and Stems, featuring his established trio with pianist Eyolf Dale and bassist Jo Skaansar. The trio plan to release their third album in 2015.
Powell also works as a freelance musician and has performed with Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, Iro Haarla, Kenny Wheeler and many more.
now I can't but wonder, what if you were to put a slide on that slide so that when you lock the "trombone slide" you can still tune and use this as a normal trumpet? or what if the slide lock could be set in a way so you can set the lock on a slightly open position to reduce the technical craziness you'd need to have a decent length to regulate the locked slide on top of the other slide.
Hayden Powell Oh yeah you're amazing you are Hayden mate! :D :D :D :D :D 👏👏👏👏👏 You should perform for the Royal Family at the Royal Variety Show cuz you're BRILLIANT! :D :D :D :D :D 👏👏👏👏👏
@Devaughn Hahn: You can shorten or lengthen the "trombone slide" to tune it. It can be hard to play in tune, especially when combining the slide and the valves as this changes the proportions of the instrument. It takes a lot of getting used to and is quite heavy and hard to play compared to my regular trumpet.
Hi everyone, thanks for all you comments and interest! I have a new album out called "Roots and Stems". No firebird there I'm afraid, but might be worth checking out anyway :) Take a look at the other videos on my channel and follow the links in the video description to order your copy!
@ThemegaOrrin yes dumbass i play baritone horn trombone and trumpet in the brass section the don't have the same note names but they do have the same fingerings dumbass i play five instruments im a music wiz fucking ass don't try to correct me i know a lot more than you dipshit
I could tell by your fingerings your not very good at trumpet but by the sound you probably play at least trombone, for every one else who think he plays something other then trombone tuba, baritone horn, and trumpet have the same fingerings just a different octave the only other brass instruments is trombone and french horn but one way or a another still a cool instrument
Thanks for the input, I see your point and you might be right :-) Or maybe the solution is to go the other way, keeping the lick even simpler and that way make all the other stuff that's going on really stand out. Anyway, I appreciate the interest and hope you'll check back when I finally get round to recording a follow-up :-) Hayden
Hi everybody and thanks for all the nice comments! I still haven't got round to making any new firebird videos, but there are now some recordings of my band on RU-vid that you'll find on my profile, or by searching for "Hayden Powell". I'm playing a regular trumpet on those, though.. Hayden
this cat is obviously killin, it really didn't sound exactly the same way through, if you really listen and think about what he is doing, that "repetitive lick" acts as a harmonic device to set up a pentatonic harmony, while the other stuff he is playing acts as "the solo"
nice tone. nice trumpet. but may i offer a bit of constructive critisim? well you had nice improve but...It soundd the exact same the way through. like you found a lick that worked and you wore out completley. try jumping aroung in the high register and throwing some turns and lip trills in. do that and you will be damn good. nice though no doubt.
