My name is Bailey, and I am an angler based south of Boston, MA. I primarily fish for Striped Bass in and around Boston Harbor, but will also be uploading videos fishing in Southwest Florida for Shark, Snook, Redfish and Grouper.
I will be sharing with you all my adventures out on my 19 foot Mako Center Console, recording myself catching fish, giving instructions on filleting, tying knots and rigging bait, and then cooking up whatever I catch!
If you like my videos feel free to subscribe, and if you have any questions or are interested in going out for a day with me drop a comment!
Where do you keep your boat or launch out of? I live in Medford and sadly only fish the Mystic a few times a year, never really make it to the harbor unless I get a charter. I get most of my fishing in up in Maine for two weeks every July.
thanks for the good content. I'm slipped over by the Tobin. i picked up a 20 & 30 X Rap. what speed are you typically trolling at 3-5mph? also how many seconds are you letting your line out. thanks for any help in advanced. my first year in Boston ( been in Gloucester for years ) so its been tough to learn a new area.
@@m.a.t2008 Glad you enjoyed! You nailed it, i troll at 3-5mph, and typically let out like 50-75 yards of line. My goal is to get it as far from the prop wash as possible. I would try and go to Boston Light early in the morning and troll around, I always have luck there. I can make a video that lays out exactly how I do everything trolling related. Hope to see you out there and tight lines!
Is that a juvenile great white? If so please try to respect the species that live around that area , anyway hope you were able let him go without causing too much stress. Edit: did it break the line? If so that definitely sucks if the hook is stuck inside him. Also until i know the full context, it seems yall wanted to bother him for no reason. But Please feel free to correct me if im wrong. My uncle said its just bait tied to rope but hes seen fishermen use multiple hooks to land most sharks, i really hope im a drunk dumbass but thats definitely a creature you should respect and not try to bother if possible. Edit: thanks for the confirmation instantly . Goodluck on future boating trips.
God how I miss striper fishing!!!! But like everything else that was once free the corporate goons and pedos pretending to be legitimate government ruined that too!!!! Now you have to buy a license and you're only allowed one fish!!!! God how I miss the free America!!!!!
absolutely! a lot of luck goes into it so next time I stumble upon some pogies I will start recording. It’s pretty simple when you do find them, get a snagging hook, throw it into the middle of the school, and keep yanking the rod/line hard until you hit one
Are you still using the 30’ rapala? I went out of seaport on saturday with a umbrella rig and live mackys and we got 0 stripers. Went from 830am -1pm. Great content!
@@PinkUniversalTrader Yes caught these both on the xrap. I highly recommend it though both of the things you tried definitely work. If you are going to stay that close to the city I would try to use bright colored lures as the water tends to be murkier and visibility is lower. Also would recommend going a bit earlier
I’m over in Cambridge and dying to get a boat to hit these stripers out in the harbor. You’re living my dream! Would love to come out and get the experience, I’ll supply the beers. Sent you a follow on insta.
Nice video man! Local Boston fishermen here checking in... looks like a nice push of fish have moved in from the south judging by the sea lice. Keep them coming - just subscribed.
Yeah, I think you will be completely fine. I have caught fish on some tiny rod/reel combos. Just throw some 30lb braid on it and you’re good. What is the exact rod/reel combo?
@@DirtyWaterOutdoors I know it can handle fighting fish I just don’t want to snap the tip lobbing out the macks. Something cheap because I don’t fish with live bait from a boat often, most likely shimano Talavera 7’6 or Tsunami carbon shield 2 7’6, both rated for 1oz. I’d rather spend my money on one of those than let’s say a Bass pro gold cup seven footer that can handle 3oz. The only positive for the more stout, dedicated live bait rod is that it can maybe turn a fish around quicker when near the rocks. I’d rather have the 7’6 so I can at least throw smaller plugs in the back bay. Thanks.
@@DirtyWaterOutdoors right now for my surf and inshore rods I run 9&10 ft. surf rods with Penn battle 2(5000), 40lb braid. 7’6 & 8’ battle 3’s(4000), 20lb braid.
@@6atlantis Makes sense. Yeah I don’t think you really have to worry about the tip snapping it’s never happened to me. Honestly most times I just try and just judge the wind and current so my line doesn’t go directly under my boat and drop the mack straight down and leave the bail open and let it swim away.
I was at Boston Light and Hull Gut. The key really is to be there at the right time. I have caught more fish between 5:30 and 8 AM than any other time. You gotta be out there when they are feeding. If you aren’t you are basically trolling around hoping you hit one in the face and get a reaction strike
I like to troll at 3-5mph in 30-60 feet of water. I also let out a ton of line, I try and get the lure as far away from the boat as possible. You just got to make sure you dont put out so much you get spooled if you have a big fish on. Try finding places where the elevation of the seabed changes drastically. These "Ledges" typically hold fish who are trying to ambush bait. I would try around Boston Light, that is where I have the most success. As always, if you see birds swarming go where they are. Hopefully this is helpful!
What’s the best method for strippers out near Boston light? trolling? Mackerels? Tossing lures out on the the shore? Or even cut bait. I have a boat out near where you were today and I’ve been really struggling so i just need some advice.
All the above work. I have been most successful trolling and using live mackerel. The key is to be there at the right times. Best to be on the water as closed to sunrise as possible
@@DirtyWaterOutdoors just curious ? I'm from Rhode Island looks nice from the building I'm doing . Has a boat ramp on the far side behind the amc theater
I appreciate the video but it would be helpful to show how you bait the hook. What you used to snag mackerel etc. Watching you fish is cool, but you can do better
Great video!! I’ve never trolled for striped bass I mainly use spinning reels. If you don’t mind me schooling me on what rod and reel and line are you using to troll
Thank you! I am using a Penn Squall 3 conventional combo with 50 lb braid and a 30 pound leader. Spinning can work for some trolling lures but the Rapala Xrap is so heavy when you are pulling it a spinning combo isn’t ideal.
Great video man! Just got a boat for the first time and started fishing Boston harbor, still a newbie so definitely enjoyed seeing your catches! Where are you catching Macks??? I think that weird looking fish you got is called a Monkfish: ref: ru-vid.comNUYf4Mc15hQ. Sorry about your rod and definitely looking forward to more videos from you!
Appreciate the tip! Went out on Sunday and tried Martin's ledge and caught a few strings of macks. We weren't able to hook on any stripers, but getting macks was huge! Looking forward to seeing more content from you.
@@calebegeazi Glad I could help! After you have mackerel i’d recommend moving a bit closer inshore to spots like Boston Light, Graves Light, or pretty much any of the inner harbor islands, and i’d also try and fish between mid and low tide. Also the earlier you get out there the better
Thank you! I would recommend heading to Martins Ledge for macks. Ive had the most success catching stripers around Boston Light, but Deer Island, Castle Island and Graves Light are all popular spots as well.
