You'll be noticing a gradual loss of power and possibly a larger laser dot on the surface you are working with. You'll also have a dark spot on the lens cover glass. A light spot is normal.
Lots of possibilities! 👍If you tweak the settings for the filament you should get some decent resolution prints. I have the Ultimaker 2 Plus Extended, as well as the Elegoo Mars 2 Pro and the Elegoo Mars 4 Ultra and now that I also have the D1 Pro laser, I have lots of ideas. I imagine you'll find lots of uses for yours in your workshop. Great for custom brackets, etc.
Not sure if you cover this in your follow-up video, but I think you focused on the top of the acrylic instead on the surface that you are actually engraving (the bottom). You should actually focus on the card underneath. This assumes that the painted/coated surface was the bottom, not the top. Also, isopropyl alcohol will damage the acrylic, causing crazing.
I noticed in the kits you are selling that they do not have a "key" to remove the ring, what should we use? Also is that lens 14mm? I have the D1 no-pro 20watt. Thanks.
If you've soaked it, it comes out fairly easily with a small screw driver or something similar. I have some that I can add to an order if you leave a note when ordering. No charge.
I got an acrylic led pack for laser engraving off amazon and i did a power/speed table test and it's cracked in every box on every speed and every setting any advice is it the acrylic? It is extruded not cast
@LaserNoob comgrow z1 10 w and i used black acrylic paint, and speed and power i did a whole test ranging from 6000 to 2000 speed and power from 100 to 45
Great Video, I was just asked to do a job to engrave/Mark bottle openers made of brass. And I just purchased the OMTECH spray, which was half the price and bigger in size. So I will try this as well. Thanks for doing this, it was very helpful and gave me hope!!! Thanks Sir
I appreciate the help, but you should be aware that some xTool lens covers are different that what you featured in this video. I have a D1 Pro 20W machine I purchased in 2022, and the lens covers I received from the factory use 10mm glass, not 14mm, and have no brass retaining ring.
Have you figured out what the "adjustment" % settings are for yet? On the touch screen control panel under adjustments it says 50 % & 3%. I'm having trouble finding out what these settings are for. I have the same Ray5 10 watt as well but I'm unsure if I'm getting the most out of it due to not knowing what that setting is for. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Just bought the laser noob burn test file off Etsy for lightburn and I want to make sure I have all the settings right first.
I will be doing some work with the ray5 next weekend, but the panel is (should) only be from burning from the SD card. Any lightburn settings "should" override the touch screen if you are using lightburn to run the project.
Donyou have a video showing how you made the grid that is on your laser bed? Great video. Very helpful. I also have issues with laser printing text backwords. Thank you
I bought the grid somewhere on etsy a very long time ago. As far as the text issue, are you trying to do it backwards or is the laser doing it when it's not supposed to?
I do not have a 20w diode, so i can't give you that answer. I always suggest that you do a speed/power test, even if using the same wattage laser I have/use. My 5/10/33/36W lasers may be more or less powerful than the exact same laser someone else has. With that said, I do mention the settings I used on the 10W in the video. Best of luck!
Thanks for sharing your videos with us. My first laser was a Longer Ray 10 watt. I never planned to be a laser guy but just to have something to engrave things I turned on my lathe. The Longer, nearly a year later is still doing what I need it to do but I have begun to do more with the laser than any other wood working tools in mt shop. I do however wish the air assist nozzle had a smaller hole but it works. I buy 3mm plywood from Amazon and several don't like to be cut and the brand that cuts like butter is no available now. It cuts with 300mm/min @100% power. Who knew laser cutting/engraving would be so much fun.
Hi! I have a few questions... I saw you spraying the tiles with the white, but didn't you finish with the black paint? I've always heard that in order to get the contrast you need to finish the tile with black paint. Also did you invent the picture?
Do you let the acrylic sit in the stand loose or do you add something to stabilize? Just like the ones i have the stand seems to have to big of an opening for the acrylic.
I usually use the cold galvanising. But I'm not sure why you need the chem to clean up the cold galv. I use water and it easily cleans off glass. I'd say it comes off as easy as the tempura maybe even easier. I'll need to look at my test grids again. Some how I didn't notice that the cold galvanising was so much slower.
For the Horizonal boxes, select the horizonal boxes- then go to shape properties clear out the multi and put in your percentage- saves time on clicking on each box...
I am currently running version v1.6.0. The 4th button down on left side of the screen is for choosing your material. The type of laser is selected there. Hope that helps!
,well i have a question. I am thinking that you get the more white effect cause of the whitness of the tio2 . Its a whitening agent after all. How about using raw tio2 or spaying it before you die it black? I am guessing that the black absorbs light more and thats why it's faster.
If you leave any medium on brass for too long, it will start to discolor it, or give it a haze. As far as scratches, that depends on the product used to clean. Microfiber cloths are best. With the omtech spray, it's simple water cleanup and dry with a microfiber. Melamine sponges are not recommended.
Not sure how this applies to mine... I have the 20W diode module and the lens has a nice cataract right dead center, so I assume this is what's wiping out my beam. My lens cover has no ring inside. It appears the glass is glued in without the inner ring. Xtool go cheap on me? I bought the system last August. I see no option to even buy lens from them any where on their site, but after hearing there's other sources for the part, but not ever going to join FB for any reason, was wondering where to find the lenses.
Yeah, clean your lens every few hours of burn time. Using air assist helps too. If you're looking for a lens kit for your 20w, I have them available here: panhandlelaser.com/products/xtool-lens-cover-replacement
I just bought a K40 laser on AliExpress. When USPS delivered it yesterday, it was a small envelope with a makeup brush in it. I got ripped off! I'm hoping AliExpress will make good on it. I paid with PayPal, so i should be covered, but I don't want to have to go through them. I won a 10W diode laser on RU-vid a couple weeks ago, so I have something to keep me busy until I get another K40. Hey - everybody can't afford $1,000+ for a better laser.
interesting video. I have an Ortur Maester 2 and still learning. So far I have engraved slate & wood. Couple of questions. Would it not be quicker to just trace the image? Also, what about just putting the acrylic on top of the black paper? Cheers
