Just discovered your channel yesterday (watched the double Iron Man in Wales), and I cannot comprehend how you don't have more subscribers. Well, you have at least 1 more now. You're a true inspiration, sir
Currently working through the Big 3 + 5k programme. Have talked a bunch of shit about you and Johnny on the heavy leg+ sprint days; "There's no way they're doing this bullshit, it's ridiculous, they've written this to have a laugh at the poor bastards doing it." Nice to see you're actually suffering along with us 😂
Being a shift worker I would love a normal sleep schedule. But it’s just one area that needs to be adapted to. I find as long as I can get about 7.5hrs of sleep per sleep period, my days are usually fine. My training definitely suffers when on night shift though, but there’s very little I can do to improve that situation outside of quitting 😂
All excellent points you made, if I could add a couple of things as someone who has to do fitness tests every year and used to do a "walk" test rather than a "run" test and used to detest running.I have a short, "choppy" stride but two things helped me immensely, both to do with breathing. Set your shoulders back and ALWAYS keep your head up. Both these things open up your chest and maximise air volume making running much easier. You undoubtedly know this but for someone starting out this is invaluable.
Question! I’ve been running for about 10-12yrs now. I was heavy then was down to 150lbs with a marathon pb of 3.25. When I ran my heart rate was typically 165 for all runs and I just accepted it but I seemed to have a decent v02 max. Now I’m 188lbs running 5-7 miles now as I’m no longer racing but run for enjoyment. My HR seems to be 155-175 on all runs now. Is there any benefit or drawback of having this kind of HR while running? Thanks to anyone in advance
Vivos are great fashion shoes, but I'm still squarely in team fivefingers. Vivos still aren't wide, flexible, or light enough compared to the toe shoes. There also aren't high performance running shoes in vivos, the V-run are fantastic mid-long distance race shoes, the V-Trail 2.0 are the best trail/fell shoes I've ever raced in (and had more grip than those in XC spikes at the XC national championships. I do think vivo is great for the general population to start being nicer to their feet, my dad recently got a couple of pairs on recommendation from his PT, and he actually uses them unlike the fivefingers he once had.
Just signed up for the strength + Olympic training plan after completing my first sprint tri and getting back into the gym! Thanks for the motivation to keep pushing and the knowledge to get it done.
Great production, great video, just great. The only thing that would be nice is if you added a pop up that showed how far you cycled etc. Would make it easier to follow along
I started working at the local bike shop so taking on another part time job… having enough to eat everyday has really been a struggle. i am a runner but ive had foot fractures since the start of the year. its taken its toll. im trying to figure out an iron man training regime since ive had to incorporate more biking and starting swimming the past few months. i take care of myself, have been since 17. ive struggled with nutrition my whole life. everything ive learned has been online so it be great to have a video on it. i have to eat gluten free and i eat a vegetarian diet. having somebody to help with making dinner or putting gas in the car is really taken for granted… im exhausted some nights with even with things that should be easy. let alone figuring out what i need to eat to maintain muscle, have energy, and be healthy. thank you so much for being such a big inspiration to people like me and so many others.
I am interested in the halve marathon and strength training but also want to add in bike and swim for future triathlon options like you. How should I go about this?
I’m if cutting, will I still lose weight eating back the calories burnt from cardiovascular exercise for example , cutting calories 2000, I burn 300 eating back that extra 300 Will it make a difference?
Might be a silly question but do you change your LISS day depending on what day the event falls on? Say if the marathon is on a Sunday but that's your usual rest day - will you change your LISS session a month out to Sunday so you're used to it?
I was swimming in the ocean last week and was about to be eaten by a seamonster when I whipped out my phone, pulled up RU-vid and showed them I was already subscribed to your channel. They gave me a thumbs up and let me be, thanks Fergus 💖
You are literally epitomising my fitness goals. I’m out of work at the moment but once I find a job and have saved up enough I’ll definitely be wanting to use your services
Hybrid training honestly is probably better than running or lifting weights alone. I been 200 pounds for many years and its very difficult to compete with a 170 pounder or 160 pounder or even less! I am 194 about if i got to 185 that would be great even 175 would be better. I am 6 -4 so i cant go below 162-165 but i would probably be to skinny then. But if i want to keep muscle and get more i wouldnt be losing that much weight. Also i have a job that eats up tons of time so dont even make it to the gym enough. I prefer running more if i had to pick, to run outside though since I like to move around more. But both are very good. Also other exercises that are athletic especially or strength based are great to do too.
Since you are 205 pounds you cant run 15 min 5k? Weight matters more than endurance then. Trying to reduce the physical work to increase average speed from finite and measurable energy output. It seems shallow a little (that its physics not hard-work, passion or special training). But at least with muscle you would look alot better than other skinny runners.
I am super new to running, I’ve always tried to run but idk how to really, always end up with shin splints. I was like F it I’ll do it very slow, very short strides. I really thought I was doing everything wrong and slow but I can run 5 k (that’s a lot for me rn) without having any pain. Thanks for your video now I know I am on the right path and still with a lot to learn and to get better. 🤘
