As a driver... I personally hope to never be here again. I had to commute to work on the Gardiner (highway below) westbound (left to right) for 10 years around sunrise (2008-18). I've been on the road and the highway when both aren't moving. The onramp to the Gardiner w/b (center right downhill in view) is VERY VERY VERY badly done. The cement pillar for the pedestrian bridge at the end of the ramp |||completely||| cuts off line of sight forward so all any HUMAN can focus on is merging before you run into a wall head on. You're in a little car and there's a dump truck/tractor trailer coming in your left mirror. By design you are supposed to hit 90km/h from (stopped) at the intersection to merge at speed - its hard downhill because it's such a short ramp.... ANY human hesitation in the scary merge lane forces all lanes to slow everyday as soon as the volume is enough. Its only supporting a pedestrian bridge so why can't the merge lane be longer instead? Even when there's no traffic anyone who knows the road is braking or avoiding the right lane westbound (ppl who normally drive 8-10 over the limit in the center lane move to left and block speeders so they start to slalom thru all 3 lanes instead) There's an eastbound ramp off screen to the left that is similarly short but it doesn't have the line of sight forward problems at least. Every road in sight become the "roundabout with a blocked exit" where everyone is queued up to merge whenever they can move
I’m personally conflicted. On one hand, there’s a ton of work left and they don’t have a great track record of completing this stuff on-schedule. But on the other hand, they do have spurts where they seem to get a lot done really quickly. I’m kind of doubting by the end of the year, but I certainly think by the end of winter next March or April.
Welcome to the concrete jungle!!! Got rid of the ramp before any type of serious thinking of what we would do to manage traffic. This city is ass backwards on a constant!
Can you please do Highway 401 at Dixie Road? Edit: Wait, I realize that's probably a big no-no with your drone considering that's right at the end of runway 06R at Toronto Pearson.
Why don't you show the part right before Cirque du Soleil or right after the show when it's backed-up for 20 minutes? How about showing Lakeshore being rammed because it's 1 lane, and it's rush-hour? No? No footage of that? Shame. Anyone who lives there could show you. I have no idea what the politicians were thinking when they re-designed this district... they were probably saying "Hey! let's drop 30 buildings right here AND makes the streets less navigable. That's what Toronto needs: more congestion!" Let engineers design our roads and districts, not our politicians.
When a highway is really complex or has high traffic volumes, a core-collector design can be used to separate streams of traffic getting onto, driving through or getting off the highway in the same direction of travel. It is used on highways in and around different parts of Ontario. Mostly in Toronto.
