Thanks for posting the council meetings! Very informative. I don’t really understand the ongoing septic tank complaints in the communications. In 2001 I considered purchasing a house in Beechwood area on Nancy Ave that had a septic tank. I went to Southfield building department and requested deed restrictions and subdivision regulations, and spent time talking with the gentleman behind the counter. He advised me on failures of septic tanks in the area due to tree roots and costs to connect to city sewer. I was so impressed with the gentleman (later learned he was the city administrator) that I purchased a house in Southfield, but not one with a septic tank. All this to say that the information on the septic tanks was readily available before purchasing the house.
Kroger just need to give it a rest! That 12 Mile and Evergreen store is DEPLORABLE! To my Southfield Council as residents and elected officials, wake up and quit letting everyone play in your city’s face cause that’s what Kroger is truly doing. THREE TIMES!
I have used the self-serve shredder at RRRASOC on 8 Mile a few times to get rid of documents and it worked great. In looking at the video of the mixed recycled material passing down the conveyor belt it made me wonder a few things. The belt travels so fast does it just go by these picking stations only one time and all the valuable plastic can get picked off or does the material have some circular route to go by a few passes before it is picked clean of the valuable items? What percentage of the material that is initially loaded on the conveyor typically gets pulled off because it is valuable enough to recycle? Do glass bottles really get recycled through this process? It seems they might just break into small pieces and end up as part of the remaining picked over material that probably goes to landfill. Maybe some of those types of questions could also be covered in the can this be recycled or not videos you also do on this channel. Thank you.
Robert, All good questions. As the materials go through the process, there are redundancies and return loops built in so that if an item gets missed (either mechanically or manually), it can be identified and captured or redirected as necessary. Our overall residue rate tends to hover around 15%, meaning 85% of what we get is actually recyclable and captured for the marketplace, with about 14% being contamination and 1% being recyclable material that either gets contaminated en route or missed in the process. Glass bottles do get recycled but most often are used as aggregate substitute or alternate daily cover at a landfill. We are in the early stages of exploring additional markets for glass. Thanks for the suggestions on additional videos. We're always happy to work with Southfield Cable 15 to provide informative content. - Mike
I live in a community where there is condos and over the years part of the property seems to be getting lower and lower , I was wondering maybe it might be a sinkhole overtime the ground has dropped .Parts of the ground is high than it sinking really low .Is there anyone can come out and chronicled the reason why? The concern is hopefully nothing wrong but I thought I would bring it to someone attention. .These are the Vistas Condos on Gateway Circle in Southfield off of nine mile Road Thank you for your time .
I had Ms. Lewis for either 1st or 2nd grade! This was the mid 90s. If you see this Ms. Lewis, I remember you being caring toward me and others. Thank you!
People need to do their homework when hiring a realtor to sell you homes or a home you think you are purchasing. You ask questions just like they ask you questions. There’s a lot of people scammers out here and they can make it look real .Stay safe
Really enjoy watching the council meetings on youtube. Thanks for posting. Also really appreciative of how the council president conducts the meetings with calmness and humor. I was a little surprised to hear councilwoman Haynes saying if residents didn’t like business decisions to vote with their feet (aka move out?). We will be moving as we have retired and are ready for a warmer climate, it was just surprising to hear, maybe she misspoke?
Why does Southfield Gas Station need to become a liquor store? when there other liquor stores near by , at the liquor store you shop and leave . So what they going to do if people start hanging around out side the gas stations hustling money ,or people park in the parking lot drinking. How many liquor stores are in Southfield.?
