Some solid advice well presented. What gets my goat is there are too many people that wait until two weeks before season and shoot a dozen shots and then go hunting. But then I’m OCD on everything bow hunting. Luckily,I have a multi faceted practice range at home and can/ have done exactly as you advise here. Like you people should go to a place like you and work on everything they can. There’s one major aspect one should develop IMO is CONFIDENCE! This is a very powerful “ tool?” in a bow hunters mind. This comes from being able to basically have the bow and arrow become an extension of you and putting that arrow exactly where you mentally envisioned it to hit. All this can come from nothing but good solid serious practice as you suggest. 👍👍🔥
@@timbow50 thank you for comment! I’ve seen it all too often that people are in a rush in late September to get their gear working, and it seems extremely stressful lol. Gotta get out early and really dial in your gear so that you can focus on being a good hunter and knowing that you have that archery confidence in the bag. Cheers
That bolt lift is normal. You're compressing the spring in the bolt when you cock it. All my 700 style actions are like this. Nice review! I have the same rifle in 6.5 prc. It's the most accurate hunting rifle I've ever owned.
Great video. I reached the opposite conclusion. (That doesn’t imply you are wrong) Spooked deer run forward so you are more likely to hit back on a moving deer. I like a wide cut in that scenario. I keep both in my quiver. In thick brush I use a fixed in more open woods I use a mechanical.
That’s a fair assessment but I have one issue with that conclusion. “Spooked deer run forward” seems a bit flawed. Spooked deer *can* move forward, but they *always* move down. They have to bend their legs to generate power, which drops their bodies and vitals lower. Pretty unavoidable from what I can tell, so I keep my shots as close as possible and take the overall mindset of the animal into account as well. If they’re on edge and out at 40 yards, probably not a good idea to sling any arrow at them at all. Thanks for the comment!
Several seasons ago I watched my son shoot a doe at 34 yards. Her attention seemed to be away from him as she was broadside to him looking away to her right. He was shooting her left side but at the shot she did a 180 in the same spot and he hit her right side only a little high lung. I wished I had a camera on that. It was crazy stuff. His normal arrow speed is in the 280-290 fps range.
I use the "anything mechanical can fail" maxim when choosing my broadheads. When I select my broadhead for the hunting season, I currently test twelve different fixed blade models (Muzzy, Slick Trick (2), Exodus, G5, Grim Reaper (2), Shuttle T-lock, Wac'Em (2), Magnus (2). None are farther than 2-inches from the center at 40-yards. Thanks for the great video
@@Wisconsinweekendwarrrior definitely true. I’ve only personally experienced the crazy blood trails with mechanicals, but I’m sure they happen with fixed heads too. Much appreciated. 👍🏻
😢 mine's been stolen how do I find one it's been cut off stolen also I went to the GPS spot were it stop atbut it's not there. Will they be able to reset to a new owner asking I should have put it up higher I know that much but could you answer the question what do you think
If you can find one in 7mm-08, you better get it. Their website shows they’re only offering the mesa in 4 calibers now, excluding the 7-08. Not sure what’s up with that? I did get one in 7-08 last year and it shot the Hornady AW great but really liked the Federal 140 gr Fusion.
@@youngin881 glad we picked one up. I don’t understand why 7-08 is falling off. With a 308 parent case and a pretty high performing bullet diameter it’s a really useful cartridge in general. Thanks for the comment!
Never been hunting unfortunately. Don’t know much about it, been trying to change that. Hard when you’re helping raise a kid. But worth it because Venison is so damn good.
@@NoGraphicsGaming there’s probably never been a better time to start with all the information circulating out there. Just focus on the basics where you can find them. I’ve got a few videos on the channel outlining basics but they can be found from a million other sources as well. Good luck 👍🏻
I'v been spraying blue jeans & socks with this for a while, but now I'm wondering if that's a good idea to have it against my skin even after it drys? Thanks for the video.
@@user-jf5wx3cv8q quite literally posted a video of a knife, captioned with the name of the knife. Then you felt the need to comment on it to remind me that it’s what… basic? Nowhere did I say it was the coolest knife in the world or that other knives suck. Your fragile ego drove you to bash an inanimate object in my comments for seemingly no reason. You’re nutty.
Good video but after doing some ground work I decided to with Bergara Wilderness Terrain in 6.5 Creed I had a chance to check out my Son’s CA and I wasn’t a fan but I put a Vortex Viper Genll 3-15-44 and it’s a tack driver
Was shooting today and of course the AR fan boys showed up. One with a brake on his rifle. I being about 20ft from him had to go get ear plugs to put in with my muffs. Dude was ticking my ears with his nonsense rapid fire at nothing. Always know every time I see those 100rd range packs lol. It's like wake boarders while in fishing. They always will find you on a huge body of water
Relatable. I shoot suppressed almost always at this point, and absolutely always with my AR's. One because it makes them better at their job, and two for the comfort. I also fish electric-only lakes now more than ever to combat pleasure boaters 🤣
@@Outdoor-Tactics Luckily I am a shift worker. I fish on the week days. The Tennessee River(Lake) system has gotten out of control with the great migration. Weekend boat traffic is endless. Those wake boarders WILL find you and circle you blaring obnoxious rap music while throwing super tanker wake. Carpet Baggers sent real estate through the roof in the south and are bringing their voting habits with them. Nashville is now called Trashville
Their ridge line models apparently had some QC issues on the carbon barrels, that’s about all I know. But yes, this whole overview is based off of a sample size of 1.
@@Outdoor-Tacticsyou've definitely got a keeper there with those groups, especially with factory ammo. I'm getting tired of waiting on Tikka releasing a 7mm PRC. I'd grab one of these in a heartbeat if they hadn't of went up $300-$400 in the last few years. Maybe 2025 Tikka will get on the ball.
@@adamelam6385 I’m extremely pleased with its performance out to 700 yards as well. Again factory ELDX ammo, very easy to walk out and validate using 4DOF. Steady 15mph winds and huge crowds at the public range made filming hard but hopefully I can in the future. But it’s boringly accurate to those ranges.
Hey man thanks for the comment. If it’s just a bare hull without seats then you’d probably have to frame out a deck from scratch. But make no mistake, I’m not an expert when it comes to this lol
@@Outdoor-Tactics it looks like ur an expert lol you looked very confident screwing rivets in and screw im scare i might cause a leak or something. How did you lesrn?
@@carlitodidthat my father and grandfather have always been supportive on projects, but I don’t think I made any modifications to the hull itself which made causing leaks less likely.
I appreciate that! With my father’s in 7-08, the bolt stick is there, but it’s lesser than mine. So I’m not sure what that’s all about. I was just out shooting some long range this afternoon and I never noticed it in real world use, so I’d say it’s a non-issue.
Good thing you got the Mesa. I've not heard or read anything bad about those, only good things. Stay clear of their Ridgeline though. My gunsmith tells me he had to rebarrel about 80 last year. CA carbon fiber barrels are apparently more junk than high quality.
That’s crazy but good to know. I think the price hike for carbon barrels is only worth it to a very select few, and that proof research is the only company I’d get one from anyway. Great rifle so far though, taking it out to extended ranges this coming weekend, results to follow.
@@Outdoor-Tactics Great. I'm eager to watch. I think I'm addicted to watching people shoot their rifles. Sadly I can only shoot to 100 at our local range but to 650 on my dad's property. Proof is an excellent way to go for sure but don't rule out Bartlein, Benchmark, and Helix for CF barrels. I have one Proof barrel, a Tikka 7PRC. Bartlein has about the best interior finish but they keep more metal in the center than Proof. Thus, they are a bit heavier but insanely accurate
