@@chicagololab1026 several things! Paper clips, binding clips, Hershey Kisses or M&M's, glue pen refills, extra bobbins filled and ready, marking pencils, bite size Snickers bars, rotary cutters with refills and a "used box". Did I say chocolate?! LOL
@@maesinger1444 none of the hand crank machines will tie the stitch off for you - unless it has a reverse lever. Mine does not. In order to "lock" the stitch at the beginning and end of each seam, I take 2 stitches, lift the presser foot, pull the work back to the beginning and stitch over those 2 stitches again - then keep on stitching to the end of the seam. Then once again, I pull the work to go back over the last 2 stitches If you don't like that method, then adjust your stitch length to be very short and then you don't need to "back tack" - the very short stitches won't pull out. Hope that helps! 😉
Thanks Josh - I appreciate the input from you and the other 7 thousand viewers who said the same thing. My videos no longer have music. This one was the first tutorial I ever posted.
This was great! Thank you for doing it. I looked for this tutorial on Quiltworx and they didn't have it. The pattern instructions said what you did, DON'T SKIP THIS STEP, but I couldn't quite visualize what they were doing. Thanks for saving me a lot of time and helping me be precise!
That is very cute, I can’t wait to make one! You give so many helpful tips, people with little to any amount of sewing experience will learn something. Thank you!
There is three ways we can guesstimate the approximate age of this Singer. Serial number, type of construction and the long bobbin winder. There is a small placard with a serial number on it in the front of the machine and you can see from singers own pages what year it was produced. What I could see it looked like *E432380 (might be wrong, my eyes are not good). Depending on the first letter with the coffin/casket type table I would guesstimate between 1924-1947, difficult to say without the first letter though. If we go with the long bobbin winder that it has attached to the front of it, then it is very possible that it was produced in the 19th century. I am not sure when they stopped producing the long bobbin versions for the modern round versions, but the long bobbin machines start from the 1850s. I might be wrong though, can anyone else see the serial number better?
@@lenaevess this machine was manufactured in 1889. There is no letter prefix to the serial number 8667836. It also has a curvy "fiddle base" which only ran for a few years with the VS2 - changing to a rectangular base in 1891 - which also confirms this machine was manufactured before the 20th century.😉

Oh it was counter clockwise😵, i have been doing it the other way. Now that i do it like you do the thread just go magically under the leaf spring thingy.I have the singer 27. Thank you so so much🤗!
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you create this awesome and wonderful pillowcase, using old ties that mean something to you.nice project and great inspiration too
I commented the other day that I was in the throes of replacing the belt on my grandmother's machine. I said I would update as to my progress. All is well. I was able to replace the belt, oiled the machine and I was sewing in no time. Thank you again for your guidance!!!
Excellent instructions! I have all my tools together and will proceed to install my new belt. Thank you for being so concise and clear as to the process. I'll message again once I've completed this and let you know how it went!!!
I actually have a singer 99. I believe it’s like 1957 model and has the same same rocket lander I found it if you push in on the lens and turn it to the right the glass cover will come out the actual lens. I’m just watching your video now to figure out where and how to put the leaf spring back in.Got it! Thank for the video! New subbie!
I find many of my parts on Ebay, or by doing a search on Google. There are small differences in the bobbin shuttle with each model machine. If you try to use the wrong one it won't work. So make sure you do your search with the correct make, model and year of your machine! If your machine is a Singer, you can find the correct make/model/yr of your machine by looking at the serial number chart on ismacs.net/singer_sewing_machine_company/serial-numbers/singer-sewing-machine-serial-number-database.html Good luck!
@@TheMasquerade i think it was the bobbin and there was yarn wrapped around shuttle so that didn't help. I bought this yesterday from a thrift shop and i'm in a progress of trying to figure out everything and get on with it.
I was intimidated by a VS.. some show winding the bobbin and I was confused which way to wind..: I do it your method… I hold thread in front of hole and put bobbin in.. basically like yours… so easy!!!! Thanks for your video!
You're welcome! I had a problem at first, too - then looked for a video. When I didn't find one, I knew I would have to make one after I finally figured it out! LOL
I like this bag. But I can't get the zipper pull on like you did. I tried a full day with 2 zippers. Just couldn't get it to go on. I have a neighbour that sews too and she said she never could succeed on this either. But I LOVE the idea. 🤓
Sorry. You're not the only one who thinks so. At least 100 other people have said so over the last 8 years. I can't do anything about that on my end now that it's already uploaded. So my only suggestion is turn down your volume. You don't have to listen to anything I may have said after the music begins - if I even said anything at all - because the steps are all repeated over and over and over and over again. As a matter of fact, I think I stopped talking. That's why I filled the dead air with music.
