My late husband Dan Luciano was part of securing/ protecting this land and to learn that the site is now in the hands of its ancestors. He was involved in many OSI projects. His legacy lives on.
My name is Brenda Driscoll and I grew up as did all of my ancestors on my mothers side living near Black River in Georgetown and Williamsburg counties. Many years ago while doing geneaology I found out that the Cemetery at Cantley Landing was paved over and the head stones for the graves pushed into the river. This site became the Ben Ervin boat landing. Cantley Landing Cemetery was used by all Members of the area for a large part of Williamsburg country history until it feel into disrepair in the 1900's. Many of the family that live in the area now have ancestors that were buried there. I would like to know how this proposal will honor the people who are buried there and the history that was lost when it was destroyed. I just found out about this new park plan and will be enquiring with other agency's about this problem.
