You were talking about your employee's labor cost but you didn't include taxes, benefits, etc... does that still need to be included in that hourly rate?
Is this supposed to be a handyman type business? Unless you’re exclusively hiring independent contractors who get some major benefits from your brand, I can’t imagine many skilled tradesman or laborers would rather meet these requirements than just run their own business. Scheduling, bidding, and frankly most communication with homeowners should be done by the business owner or employees specifically trained for those tasks, not “boots on the ground” employees. If you only perform non-skilled labor for a high end market maybe this could work but I would imagine you’ll probably still see a high turnover rate.
It's amazing how a few figure it out how to scale and become wealthy. The rest of us need to learn from this gentleman to improve our businesses, our lives.
Contractor gave me a quote for $16,000 for a 6 foot wooden shadowbox fence. I priced out the materials and it was under 4000 for $12,000. I did it myself.

Funny, i have businesses that act that way towards myself as a government contractor. Its not my money, i dont care how it gets spent. Its the governments dollar. If you dont want to bid, so be it, there are 3-30 other people waiting in line behind you that will provide me a quote.
The ballpark figure over the phone, subject to change once I see it. A lot of restaurants and apartments are forced to get quotes. They don't have a choice.
If you refuse to quote me over the phone, you don't deserve my business. It seems really bullshit. If your price or work is that good, me asking what price is a product or service shouldn't be hard for you to answer. At least giving a ballpark of price is better than ignoring the question completely. It also shows how well the after sales support will be
So I own a lobster boat, and I quite intentionally burned through sternmen until i found one who was fantastic, a hard worker, good attitude, and smart enough to not need constant guidance all day long. I then made sure that he was making a higher percentage with me than he would on anyone elses boat. That was five years ago, its been a great five years.
The CSR doesn't give a quote because they aren't plumbers. They don't know what will be required for the installation/repair. Neither does the customer. The plumber builds the estimate after they see the work firsthand. Then they get a flat-rate quote for the whole job, start to finish.
Couldn’t agree more. Plumbing can’t be quoted over the phone. If they need to know the price range upfront, they are too broke to afford a professional plumber. Keep up the good work Jared!
