I can so enjoy a mezzo playing a man to a man making bizarre vocal attempts to sound like a woman, which I find the height of fake noise. The title role was written for Sensesino-a castrato-and that sound can no longer be produced, thank God! The whole repertoire for castrati was founded on a highly artificial sound and an utterly depraved practice, and whenever a woman is singing roles previously written for castrati, I will heartily applaud, but I’ll skip the whole thing when a man is cast.

I just fell in love with this Butterfly !!! I don't know how many times I already listened to this and often in tears. Asmik is surely the best Butterfly in years. She is one of the best ever in my view.
