Hey coach! I have really low endurance as a sprinter, and i was wondering if cross country would be a better route rather than doing sprint endurance workouts.
It depends on how you are training. What type of endurance are you searching for. Sprint endurance/speed endurance is what you need as well as max velocity sprinting.
Mid distance (800) they are technically still sprinters. They to do not want their foot to be pointer flexed, but dorsi flexed so that their foot lands flat, allowing them to push through the ground. Does that make sense?
Hi! I am just starting to coach hurdles! What is the purpose of this drill and the spacing? Typically the hurdles between for HS girls is 8.5 m and 10 m to the first hurdle from what I recall
Hello Coach, do I place the 1st hurdle on the regular mark then 15ft in between. Or do I start 15 ft from the starting line and 15 ft in between each hurdle? I have a HS hurdler struggling with 3 steps. Also what’s a good drill to help keep arms controlled when running over hurdle?
@@coachwelly great. Thank you so much! I will try it out tomorrow. Also, when running off of the hurdle, approximately how far out should lead and trail leg land off the hurdle?
@@LifeWithJ_Marie Normally its about a meter for girls, about 1.4ish for boys. For this particular drill, it should be about a meter for both genders. If you are dealing with younger kids, the focus should be simply getting down as close to the previous hurdle as possible to give you space to get to the next hurdle in a rhythmic manner. Does that make sense?
Hello my friend! I see s lot of your videos and u really help me a lot with sprinting! Im 15 years old and i really like sprinting and i go to a track but i dont have any coach or anyone to see my technique because i train alone and i do my routines, is there any way i can send u a video on ur insta or smthing on where i sprint and u can tell me how do u see it? If you can only, thanks!!!
There are starred loops. 1-2-3. Place your legs inside the 3 star, pull that up to the top of your knee. Then the one star loop place foot inside both and pull it up underneath your knee.
Interesting. You're the first coach I've seen online that puts them as close at 15 ft. I have done a gazillion 15 ft runs throughout my entire career (PB 13.15s - 1999). Dutch coaches used to copy this method. They brought forth quite a few hurdlers that lifted their leadleg and had ineffective take-offs. And also hurdlers that couldn't (properly) transition to full distance. That's why I as a coach, even knowing the pitfalls, prefer to build up from 20 - 22 ft with my hurdling group. Rarely do I go shorter and reduce height. For the youngest groups I coach (U14)... I prefer to start at 19 - 20 ft, and then 50cm or 60cm and upwards. The taller and/or better ones can 3-stride more freely, and the few kids that can't 3-stride even over the lowest... well they're fine with 4 or 5-striding or don't really want to do hurdles anyway. Occasionally I put up hurdles (near) full distance, for the U14 / U16 kids I want to learn a 4-stride. It can be very frustrating for a kid that isn't quite able to 3-stride (yet), to have to run a 5-stride in races.
Thanks for the video. Should it feel like you are pulling your leg with your foot on the ground? A bit like when you ride a step? So that it feels like you wipe your foot on the ground while the foot is dorsiflexed? Is that the way I should run for a long distance?
It's more of pushing for your foot to the ground, and it's a striking, not wiping your foot. Distance should run the same, just with not as much force as a. Sprinter..... Unless it's time to sprint
@@coachwelly Coach I didn't understand by ' that would change alot quicker ' what would change? And also people always says to me that I've to focus on strengthening my legs because if I'm slow, there's no use of focusing on running mechanics
@@johanjames8047 you said your technique and strength are both bad. If you work on your sprint mechanics first that would change a lot of things quicker. Sprint Mechanics make you faster quicker than simply strengthening your legs. You obviously need both, but mechanics will take you far.
@@johanjames8047 there are other videos before the one you are currently watching that explain all of. That. The series is called developing speed for all ages. It will explain everything
I’m doing 110 hurdles for the first time ever (freshman) and I’ll run up to it hesitate and stop, or the times I get over it I jump too high any help coach?
First and foremost, you must commit to taking off. Second you are most likely to high because you are either too close at take off, or simply jumping instead of running through it. I have several videos under my educational playlist that would help with that.
