I love my 2012 model. Yes I've had a couple of expensive bills but it's an amazing car and LR made a massive mistake in changing the shape. It was pretty much perfect and one of the most noticeable and best looking cars on the road. Even now after 5 years I love driving it and as sokn as I see another one on the road I think that is just z great looking car.
got zackly the same, paddles are usful when towing, downshift bit earlier got ARB bullbar and driving lights don't offroad here in Au but handy to get into the bush campin overnight, fitted 18s by dressing down front calipers, put the shiny black 20s into storage, best choices of rubber for our gravel roads love it, 5w 40 every 10000km swap out half trans oil every 30000km you are a funny bugger Mate S mode you can hold a gear, so it,ll not change up over here they do not rust, my 2016 is as new underneath I drive light throttle sorta nurse it have a TDV6 too 2010, parked up as the pass side window will not go up I have A TOPDON code reader, you'd best learn to fix these cars or be wealthy nope Kevin, they ALWAYS get away in second less you preselect 1st
You must have deep pockets to run this beast!! It's not a car, it's a big SUV!! Hope they sting you for driving such a problematic vehicle!! Every drivers nightmare travelling behind these idiots !!!
Agree, one of the best vehicles built since Mercedes made great cars before1990, PROVIDING you have a brain, understand how to maintain them and SERVICE them at half the LR interval and I suggest oil changes every 5K to 7 K miles. Simple
The reason that you have padded shift is that it’s a face lift mode, post 2013, reference to Ulez post from @ pa1668 it you have a late 2015 model then it will be a Euro 6 engine or if a Euro 5 discovery 4 then you can have it converted to euro 6 spec and then it’s Ulez compliment and clean air or what ever you want to refer to it as, then Mr Khan can not do a thing about it, the conversion is cheaper then buying D5, happy days.
@@rizla6220 l494 sport, yes they have some issues here and there but on the whole they do everything from luxurious long journeys to towing a 3 tonne trailer in comfort.
£620 a year road tax , constant worry of crankshaft snapping , had stupid plastic inlet manifolds replaced , beautiful car but just a money pit , sold it and bought a 2014 Dacia Duster 4x4 put a set of BFGoodrich a/ts on , unstoppable , cheap insurance and tax , best move I ever made
There have been some (far too many) snapped crankshafts on these engines, and with the cost of engine replacement this renders the car beyond economic repair. To put it in perspective though, the majority have not had this happen. Understandably, it's the failures which make the news. Meticulous servicing greatly reduces the risk, but it's still there. I do an intermediate oil and filter change between services, which I reckon is a good idea. 100K miles on my 2015 model and fingers crossed...
@@davids9549I agree but it’s the constant worry of it snapping , I would look for an excuse to use my van instead and the Disco would stand idle for ages
Interesting video - I bought my silver D4 Landmark a year ago from a Land Rover dealer with a full LR guarantee - 1 previous owner and only 34k on the clock. Cost me a lot more than yours, though. As I want to keep this a long time I had the underside Lanoguarded and I also replaced most of the fillament bulbs with LED equivalents - the rear fog ane reversing lights were especially good as they are so bright you can actually see properly when you are reversing at night. I also replaced the front fogs with sealed LED ones (all from PowerfulUK). The Discovery 4 really IS the perfect vehicle - I have just driven 1,100 miles across Europe even getting at high as over 110mph on the Autobahn in Germany - but as the mpg dropped to only 25 I tended to cruise at about 90 where I got about 33mpg (38mpg in the roadworks when driving at 50mph). But then, it is also perfect on the mountain roads and trails in the Alps. There is no vehicle like it. Also, it's the only vehicle I have ever owned that is so nice to drive I don't mind being in a traffiuc jam. Insorance - mine is about £1,200pa na dthat does include full business use and the Hi-Pro device I had fitted to improve mpg - my old insurance wanted to charge me about £1,700 for the same thing and several would not insure at all or wanted well over £2k pa. Land Rover will be doing a security update for my D4 later this year, I had a letter from them a couple of weeks ago. Also there is now a "sleeping battery" available that has a motion sensor that disconnects the battery if no movent is detected after about 3-minutes, preventing anyone remotely cloning the key at night.
I had a Disco 3 for 14 years and i enjoyed every moment of it. It did have a few problems but what car doesn't . Unfortunately Ulez charge here in London and the cost to insure made me sell it.I still go on Auto Trader and look occasionally for a 2016 model but my sensible head kicks in.....Great video by the way, made me laugh and i agree with all that you said...
Good vid, i just piked up mr 3rd but 1st L405 Range Rover the other week. I absolutely love them. But key good service history and ideally lower mileage but key service early and don’t skimp. But I’ve found them to be more reliable than some so called reliable cars. But key is it will wear bushings and wear able items quicker but it’s a big 4x4 it will. But the moment you don’t look after them it will bite back. If you buy one that’s been abused it will sting and probably be a nightmare equally be aware of common faults. Partly why i chose the sdv8 4.4 tends to be pretty bone proof amongst its serviced often and keep an eye on the oil cooler. Also helps if you’re mechanically minded and also know a decent specialist due to some workshops just fire the parts cannon at them other a simple fix like for a sensor.
I have spoken to many people who have never had a problem with a Disco. You just need to kook after them properly - oil change every 6 months instead of recommended and do all the servicing on time. Unreliability comes from not looking after a vehicle properly.
@@X50505 Hi there , have had many D2s , avoided the D3 and owned a D4 for 7 yrs , fabulous tow car , we live on Skye and it was used to transport sheep to market , recover friends broken down cars and other normal car use , black with cream leather , all the bells and whistles as they say , got to the stage I was reluctant to use it wondering when it would next cost me a huge amount of money . I sold it and bought Dacia Duster 4x4 , put a decent set of boots on it and am very pleased with it . Cheap road tax and insurance, 40 odd mpg , very basic so not a lot to go wrong , also aquired an x reg D2 with a new galvanised chassis so saying all that I think I’m qualified to so the D4 s are a heap of shite .All my friends who have owned them have got rid too . Is Land Rover paying you to put this video up ?
Your totally nuts! disco3/4 should carry the trophy for the worst and most unreliable car and hardest to fix ever. Only reason it doesn’t currently have that trophy as it’s new little JLR sister has the inginium engine. Anyone wants to disagree needs to have at least done suspension arm bushes brake pipes and a turbo on one! Take the ghost off and keep it for the next car and hope a tea leaf has the balls to try hes luck.
Sorry but I have to disagree, I have a D4 on 220,000 miles and a D3 on 240,000 miles both working farm vehicles and daily drivers, both on original turbos, original brake pipes, I had to replace two front airbags on the D4 but not the D3 yet, strange as it has the higher miles, the D4 has had a steering rack and an alternator, the rest has just been wear and tear items, suspension arms and wheel bearings are just wear and tear and are relatively cheap and easy to replace. I wouldnt´t buy one however unless I needed the extra space and seats, the RRS with the TDV8 is a nicer car to own and drive, I had one but it was too nice as a working vehicle but I miss the V8 diesel.
ALL modern cars tend to have short turbo lifespans and lots of electrical issues due to the complexity of what they offer. As LR time states, even Toyotas have problems now, to which I will add Audi’s, Mercedes, BMW, Suzuki, Nissan, Honda, Mazda and all crap from Stellantis ( French foibles and fcuked)
@@robertjohnston3658 nothing is so unpleasant to work on as these though. I have a garage and as soon as they are about 6 plus years old nobody can justify or probably afford to fix them. Put a q7 or something Japanese on the bay next to it and do any of the jobs I mention you’d be finished in a third of the time and they would probably dependant on how well the car is maintained suffer less than half the failure rate. It’s disgusting considering how much they are new. Let’s be honest it is reflected in the used price once they reach year 3/4 my customers pick them up for peanuts and have no budget to fix them.
It’s a shame that you only get 80 miles per charge, I get between 100 miles and 140 miles per charge, I own a 2023 version of this with some light modifications.
COOPER S ELECTRIC LEVEL 2, it says 7.3 0-60 MPH but that would be from a standing start with top speed of 93mph, it is a nippy car but looks like a nightmare to drive with the stiffness, I think I will stick with my petrol VW BlueGT
Good review of the bike! Good to see you can make it enjoyable to watch. Little bit of humour in it too rather than the more serious reviews! Keep it up I’ll keep watching! Have to review mine(once I get it on the road)
