Finaly are prefered Nick Batt changing roles .... :-) very cool to know a bit more who you are Nick ... amazing amount of work behind ... me too as a kid J.M.Jarre was simple music but with sounds never heard before, ... as John .Foxx said the cheap synths made the 80's possible ... let's hope the new wave of cheap ones today will do the same
Paul having a RU-vid problem, I added this video to a playlist I made years ago, but now it says “content unavailable” on the list, yet here I find the video hasn’t been taken down… did you change settings or access for this video, or is this some weird RU-vid thing?
Thanks this was so helpful. I did a gig with my P6 and came home to discover one of the 6 voices didn't play at all. Every 6th note in a run or chord was silent. After watching this I opened it up and saw that one of the voice cards was always silent, even though the on-board LED lit. So I powered down, removed it, and cleaned the contacts of the voice card with a pencil eraser as they looked a little dirty. Put it back in and powered up, all was good again! I guess during transport it had come loose, or just needed a little cleaning.
The Pro-3, unfortunately, is ugly compared to the Pro-2. Sure the Pro-3 has an oscillator dedicated wavetables... but those ugly plastic buttons... . Either way, Sequential's monophonic synths are a beast.
Nick Batt Has been a huge influence and a serious source to turn too when concider to buy synth's and equipment,..for many, many years, in my case since the late 90s =) I am glad Nick still is in it and spreading love and light aswell thoughtś about synths. Thank you Nick ,..also thank you Paul for makeing this interview <3<3<3 =)
I own the Rev2 8voices. I can't figure out how to use the 8 voices, and i'm stuck with 4. Disabling the layer B doesn't seem to "free" 4 more voices. The only solution I found is to split the keyboard and have the same setting on layer A and layer B. Anyone can help ? It would be much appreciated.
PE is my main synth and I don't think the market is big enough for them to release a rev2. And I think they'd make it "sound better" and that would make it sound worse.
you say nothing other then mixing and mastering. Mixing I get, thats just levels, but I never really learned what goes into, or counts as, mastering. WOuld it just be stuff like conversion decisions, how to handle analog to digital and back specifics, dithering and all that?
An extremely good overview, only quibble is a very soft voice competing with the sound here and there made it difficult to make out what he was saying, however this is a minor point and did not detract from the useful ness of the video.
My favorite synth demo ever (the P5 part by Tom Darter). Have listened to it literally a thousand times, and I will come back to it again for at least a thousand times. ♡
Hi Paul. Thanks for the detailed overview! I am willing to buy a Rev 2 but there is one think I am wondering about the Poly Sequencer and maybe you can help me. Is it possible to write down a sequence on the fly? I mean like: set a clock tempo, press play, press record and then play the keyboard to create the desired sequence? And then I guess it would start playing back that sequence as a loop in a continuous way, similar to a Korg Minilogue sequencer? That would be a more playable approach to create sequences live or during a jam session instead of having to writing them down using the knobs, which looks a bit annoying. Thank you!
Thanks for your comment! I'm not familiar with the Minilogue sequencer, but you are able to record a sequence on the fly on the REV2, just like you described it, when you use the POLY as opposed to the GATED sequencer mode.
nice synth, BUT doesn't sound as good as the prophet 6 or the ob6 which are in a league of their own. something about dco's makes them sound a less than vco's. some people prefer that tone, but i consider sequential to be a premium synth with a particular sound that sounds much better with vco's. the functionality of this synth has a much wider scope but yeah when it comes to "that" sound it doesn't quite have the chops.
Wonderful video thank you. Please, if you buy this synth, take your time. Don't fret over 'should I have bought an OB6 or Prophet 6. After a few weeks of ownership, it really begins to shine. I love mine.
This guy really gets it all. There are nuances in every aspect of art, science, design, and music. The way things are built, how they operate, yes even how they look and feel, is crucial to the end result. It’s hard to defend that, against a wall of online armchair engineers yelling about how simple and straightforward things are. When someone implies that there is one right way, or one good sound, this is the quickest way to know they have very little experience
The dawn of the 80’s…a totally different sound to the 70’s The reign of the Minimoog, Polymoog, Odyssey and Solina was over. Time for the Prophet, Jupiter 8, Emulator and DX7 to take us into the next decade
Fabulous interview. Great share. My super 6 is on its way... and I am beyond stoked. So much inside that I did not realize before purchasing. Wow. Note I am not a synth guy... or a keyboard guy. Musician. Bass player. Vocalist. Noodler. Ready to evolve in musical creation... and this amazing instrument.
Yes, it’s Stravinsky: “The Sacrifice”, the second section of “The Rite of Springs”. Trivia: John Williams quotes these opening bars in “Star Wars - A new Hope”. You can hear it in the desert scene, when the two droids are searching for Obi One Kenobi on Tatooine. m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EkwqPJZe8ms.html
Wow, this was a fantastic and nerdy conversation about many interesting topics. I came here for some insights into George Hearn and the design of the UDO super 6 synthesizer, and got it in buckets. But I also got philosophical thoughts around synthesizers in general, the industry surrounding it, manufacturing, quality, sustainability and the future of synthesis. Probably a bit lengthy for most people, but I really enjoyed every bit of it!
Nice to know about Nick's background. I like what he's doing on Sonicstate RU-vid channel. It was obvious to me that it's a musically talented guy as soon as he starts to play. Good interview Mike.
Any idea on how to exchange a key? A black key of mine is somehow pressing harder / slower than the other ones. Its the one right in the middle where this black socket is behind it. So I can't look behind it that easily... any idea?
Love it but I think I got a lemon. My screen keeps going black and then coming back on. Other times notes will repeat but the knobs and buttons do not respond. (It freezes.) Been in touch with Sequential Support. Hope they can find a fix or I'm returning it.
@@stephenroldan5107 No. I returned it to the retailer. Ordered a replacement. It had the same problems! So after I replaced that one, I bought an ASM Hydrasynth desktop. Thanks for asking.
