It is well known that after the production of the phase 3 that many spare parts were put into the Xa's Including the RP0 83 And the GS Models and even some v8 Falcons
Back in '85 in Brisbane, I purchased an E38 Trackpack in Hemi orange. Tad closer to red than yours. The 3 speed was changed out also for a 4 speed B Warner. Purchased in Nerang for $4,500 from memory in show condition. Oner slight difference was it had had the engine rebuilt with low comp pistons & triples removed for a water-injection, draw thru Garret turbo set up. It was extremely quick through gears but had terrible lag & not enough fuel in the upper rev ranges. Waht I would've given to own the 49. Rebuilt engine back to original R/T comp specs & purchased some original tripple webbers. Let's say, I sold it soon after...
I have read there were 40 phase fours manufactured. Three were sold before the Government canned the phase 4 project. The remaining 37 were sold to Police forces around Australia as both marked and unmarked Highway Patrol cars. I don't know what was on the compliance/build plates other than at least 37 of them had Option 36 stamped on the plate.
I had an R100 with a worn out motor that I had to clutch start (not rough compression for the starter motor) but it still left my 192 powered EH van for dead, lol.
I had an 83 Dualcab hilux 4wd with a 253 Holden V8 with thermo fans and 33x12.5x15 Maxxis Mulder's that was used about unstoppable in the mud. My last Hilux was also an 83 dualcab with a 400mm chassis extension but a 2wd. It also had a 4L Lexus V8 (non-turbo), auto and a 3.9 geared 9 inch diff and it went like scalded cat. I demoralised quite a few people that thought their cars were hot stuff, lol.
I had a 72 B210, they had horrible brakes on them. I had someone help me Retrofit 240Z Brakes on it. I just had to get the parts from a wrecking yard. It got so rusty, I was afraid the Front Struts were going to come through the hood. Sold it for parts, as it had a rebuilt modified engine. He ended up not doing the swap on his body, drove it for years, with just washers welded in the towers. Sold it to someone else. BTW He said the car sat up an inch higher.
The HO was a great car.. in a straight line. They handling (Handling Option) was only changed to handling option to get around the insurance premiums. High output, not handling option.
What a garage his XA Phase 4 and XY HO make. The XA interior is 🤤. If only it came in Coupe format. Edit : I think it’s telling that Paul drove the XY out of the two when they were parked.
Had better brakes might’ve won Bathurst one of the sexiest muscle cars of all time why didn't they have drop tank for lower centre of gravity shame they pulled out of Oz hemi magic so good so underrated
I still think the VH Charger has the most beautiful backend of any car. The angle of the sweep, the grills behind the windows, the inset rear window, the built in spoiler, the lights... but the centered fuel cap was the icing on the cake.
Great video once again guys it’s credit to both you fellas always putting a no pressure prospective to viewers ✅ Also credit to the owner of these legendary cars I totally understand how some of comments would be frustrating but it’s always so nice to see how people actually appreciate such beautiful cars 👌
