It's not even about being cute, the heat will be too much and the tangling will require me to constantly be on Ibuprofen 😢😢 I would honestly just cut it and keep it very short
I don't think that was the main issue. Of course we need to take care of our hair. I think the thing we need to work on is what styles we find "acceptable" and the pressure of achieving certain looks that is not meant for our hair type that will eventually damage our hair
Mine was worse...I had alopecia lots of scalp showing Cieli braids (color purple) and grown out color. I ran out of time...I was attempting a braid down so i had to use thread and netting to connect everything, so i could attach the wig (sew it to the net) to it since I dont really have hair to attach the wig securely for vacation with lots of water activity. It was an overnight flight I threw on a scarf...thinking I'll finish at the hotel. Landed on vacation.. why immigration in Jamaica make me take off my scarf? I'm standing there with twig braids and string hanging. Till this day I don't understand..it wasn't a security issue thin scarf, they could pat me down and my face was showing. I went through metal dector. I felt the pain 😢. Officer was a woman with an attitude too. I was truly embarrassed.
Most people in general don't wear their hair in their "natural" state then. If i wore my hair, natural I'd have thin hair with no body pressed to my face. Damn right im blowing that shit out, curlers in and backcombing.
True! I think the point she was trying to make is the amount of "pressure" of achieving that perfect twist-out. People are quick to say that someone's hair is unmanageable because they can't achieve the same twist out as someone else. Protective Styles are the KEY. But everyone's hairstype is different, and you need to discover what Styles works for you hair
I think I understand what you’re trying to say, but i think you’re saying having product of any kind in your hair makes it no longer natural, but it does. Products are there to protect the hair and protect that don’t have kinky or coily hair use products to protect it. Now before I get too ahead of myself, let me just say my expertise here is that I am a licensed cosmetologist and someone who is half black that wears my hair in a way that I’d consider natural. Now hair is finicky and what works for one routine that works for someone probably won’t work for another especially if they have different hair types, textures, and or curl patterns. Also everyone’s hair needs to be thoroughly moisturized. Our scalp tends to provide that to an extent with oils (something that is more noticeable in straight fine thin hair over some with thick curly corse hair) but when your hair is curly it has a harder time distributing the oils down the shaft of the hair to protect it. That is where products come in . Hair product is there to help fill the gap to keep the hair protected where your natural oils can’t. The more fragile and curly your hair is, odds are the more product your hair is going to need to protect it from damage. With that said hair products don’t make your style “unnatural” it protects your hair so it doesn’t break from environmental abuse like sun, pollution, and humidity. Hope that helps you understand the need for product even in natural hair
To be fair, who is? Even people you think arnt doing anything, like white women, they are. Can they still get up some mornings and throw it in a bun? Yeah bur they also need to wash their hair multiple times a week, and are usually blow drying, straightening or curling multiple times a week as well. Capitalism dosnt want us to like our hair because its a billion dollar industry when they convince us we arnt good the way we are.
