@@boat-adventures Saturday just gone, I went down the harbour about 8pm on Friday night and came back up past your boat about 7pm on the Saturday. It was like the Mary celeste, empty lol
Great video Tommo, looked a great little trip that one, water looks ace there, I thought you got a piece for your drill for loading the boat back on the trailer as you made it look hard work 🤣
fantastic vid , i used to sail out of swanage for 14 years on various catamarans often racing past old harry into studland bay or onto bournmouth pier , the best chip shop is the one in the square do great fishcakes from local caught fish , ques go around the corner so popular
@@anotherangleUK I did try to make a launch and recovery video but my breathing was too heavy and a bloke stood in front of the camera watching me when I started to recover 🫣
@@fat_tommo_goes_boating Oh well there's always next time. I was going to film using ropes on Mylor slip when I last launched. However, GoPro wasn't on - School boy error.
@@anotherangleUK yes I filmed much more on this day and it would have made a great vid, then I look back and the camera was only recording for 3 seconds and obviously then stopped. Oops
@@fat_tommo_goes_boating We've all been there with the technical issues filming. On one video in Cornwall I was chatting away only to notice the mics had run out of power 🤨
Thanks Tommo. Like you I'm thinking it could be a Colvic Northerner - very solid built boats which is probably why she is still afloat. Hope it finds a new owner.
@anotherangleUK I have thought about it, but I no longer have a mooring myself, so as soon as I committed to it, it would be a cost outlay and commitment. There are others there too, I think they get usually get around 4 or 5 boats a year just abandoned in Christchurch alone
Thanks for posting, hope you had fun at Budgee’s do! I have a leaky sib & didn’t want to risk it so went for a paddle around mudeford instead 😀 I’ve often wondered if Dream Catcher was abandoned.. Do you know if anyone has taken ownership of Orca? I’ve been using her as a floating island to stop on while paddleboarding since finding out she’s been dumped there. Have you seen that monstrosity “Wyld Blue Yonder” that’s been left by the RNLI? There was somebody on there this morning, patching up one of the pontoons. I was sure that had been abandoned too as it’s in a terrible state. I love your videos around Christchurch & Poole, I try to get out on the water weekly (weather permitting) & it’s great to see another perspective. A boat I can sleep on is my next step up, been thinking of Shetlands but something like yours seems even more practical.
The boat meet was good thanks. As far as I know Orca is still looking for a new home too. I believe the story with wild blue yonder is that it is from Poole but the guy who owns it now has recently bought it as a project to do up. It was towed round from Poole. Shetlands are great boats and a bit of a Swiss army knife type of vessel. You can overnight, waterski, fish, explore rivers and they are great at all of it. I have had 4 over the years and love them!
@lovelifeloveboat there is a bit of that on the South coast too unfortunately I use an app to tell me when they are discharging and I avoid certain areas
That was unfortunate to find the old mooring ground tackle. You've made a good repair job - should be just fine and hardly noticeable. Hopefully you got out on the water.
Not got out today Phil, I spent this morning fixing a fuel leak on dad's boat and this afternoon diagnosing a minor fault on mine. Literally just thinking about going down tonight and launching this evening though
Was super windy up here over the weekend. Blowing 50mph+ around Anglesey on Saturday so conditions would have been super rough!! No shame in ducking out in my opinion! Wind has mostly been Northerlies up here too, so cold and nasty and no good for sailing really, unless in a big boat. Just wiating for the weather to change!!! Cover looking good anyway tommo. A lot of room under there.
@@fat_tommo_goes_boating Curb the addiction Tommo!! Although there are always plenty of Luggers about so maybe i'll see you, 3 sails flying next year!!!
Hello mate!!! Thank you for giving my boat meet a mention. I can’t wait to see what a real fast boat is like😂 Keep going with your videos tommo, I have subscribed
Some good ideas to make 'living' aboard a bit easier. Don't blame you not going out if the weather is poor. It's all about enjoying being out on the water.
I was also careful with money. Because my work has been quiet. But I earned more money in 4 days last week than I earned in whole month before, so things are looking up now. 🫣
Great idea Tommo. I like to see the whole thing evolving and its given me a few decent ideas for mine too. Those poles really give it some shape and support.
@@fat_tommo_goes_boating That Laser 16 is a decent boat. A lot faster than the Lugger and self draining too. WOuld you be able to right her if capsized? The Lugger I think I could but she would be swamped.
Thanks. The mooring was just a random empty one in the harbour that I picked up for the night. There are no specific visitor moorings. I launched at the Mayor's mead slipway in Christchurch, if you look at the slipway playlist on my videos, there is a video of it from last year
@@fat_tommo_goes_boating Great thanks for the info, that's a small spot for parking the trailer, looking at the sign on Google Maps it says no overnight trailers so I guess you just have to risk it for a cheeky overnighter :)
@weaversseventythree it's now officially something like 38 or 48 hour max stay in the trailer park. However there has been a yacht in there on a trailer since February and a smaller trailer with a flat tyre for over a month now, so I never worry, you can also put trailers on the grass around the carpark, I always find space for my 25ft long trailer but you can get blocked in at times, but I tend to recover late anyway, so everyone else has usually gone home
@@fat_tommo_goes_boating Definitely intrested in seeing the launch and recovery process, maybe an idea for a future video! Does the slip have a pontoon to tie up to while you sort out the trailer?
@weaversseventythree I have been planning to do a launch and recovery video for a while now and I will do soon. However, recently, I have either launched in the dark or the slipway has been manic, so not great for filming. I might be able to do one this weekend, we will see. There is no pontoon, I just nose my boat up on the shingle to the side of the slip a bit and there are bollards to tie to.
Yes, I have been impressed with how the shakes don't show on it too. Shame the signal is rubbish with it though, can't make calls inside my house, have to stand outside now 😕
I am planning to do a launch and recover video soon, unfortunately the last few times I have launched, it's either been dark or the slipway was so busy, it's not really possible to film. But I will do one soon, definitely.
Thanks for this Tommo I can find the farm on google maps is it obvious where the slip is? I’m down this way in late sept so adding it to my potential list.
Tommo the sound is pretty good, it's slightly out of sync on the video so there's a bit of delay but its not too bad. Everything cheap that i've tried has been god awful unless when using it with a phone it somehow gets managed better than with an action cam? What was it by the way and where did you get it!
Audio is fine Tommo, working well. Ring spanner is your friend, won't slip like an open ender. Good spares inventory - can't have too many "just in case" items. Have a great and safe time on South Coast.
your vids are great Tommo, dont get like all the other channels trying to make it like its going to win an oscar, the more raw it is the better as long as no wind noise. i use a go pro hero 4 on my earlier vids not done alot since but will with new boat. i think waht sailing with dave said is key , learn to edit to make it better to watch , ive loved your vids so far and will keep watching
Hi Tommo. I use a range of kit largely as I have to have waterproof kit for what I do, but also because I get hold of stuff through work too. Some advice on cameras etc that I can share here; Firstly a phone camera is hard to beat. These will definitely outstrip anything Gopro or DJI can throw at you for video quality, especially at night and I know loads of 200K sub channels still using them for general footage. A good quality phone is only really outdone by a proper camera with a much larger CCD like a Canon EOS style thing but thats getting serious!! What an Action Cam gives you is ease of use, cost, ruggedness and also the fact you can position them in many places for better or more unusual shots, using them remotely if needed. With my DJI Action Cams, the insurance was like £30. If I drop one and lose it then I get a new one or worst case its £350. Drop your iphone and its your whole life gone!!! So for me sailing dinghies, I have to have an Action Cam. For you a phone may just be better anyway. Maybe invest in stuff that will keep the phone safe. Hand tether, case etc. The sea and sand have a habit of destroying anything!! I think your videos are generally fine in quality. Your phone gives you the option of 4K if you want to go there, but 4K is harder to edit, needs a better computer and takes longer to upload, takes memory too. For me sound is more important than video quality if you're already posting decent HD. I have a cheap microphone but the sound is terrible. I ended up using the DJI MIC. These are amazing and if you use the cameras they connect to them. The newer MIC 2 doesn't even need the host unit plugged into the camera, it just uses BT. Expesnoive though at £300 although you can buy just 1 slave unit now. These make a huge difference on windy days. I should use them more, but don't. There are a lot of alternative products by Rode for example and more but I think getting the sound right is better than video right now as YT tell you it can really switch a video off for people. You can also get 2nd hand action cams on Ebay. Maybe do that? Then you could get one on a stick or on the front of the boat and get a 2nd camera shot, experiement with it. That would make your videos more interesting? Don't buy GoPro BTW. Way, way too many issues with them and their customer support is awful. DJI Action Cams or Insta stuff are cheaper and just way better now. Don't forget that editing makes more difference than anything. Get a decent editing software and start to learn about how to put video and music together better, but thats a whole otehr story!. Hope that helps.
Thanks Dave. I will look into all that. At the moment I don't use any editing software other than what's on my phone. I'm going to play with what's on this new one for a bit then look into extra software
