I miss watching people tell and show you how to do the strategies in video games they are so exciting to watch and makes you want to play the game over again
I miss those days when sellers demonstrated snes on the kiosk to potential buyers. Those particular makes were a bit different too, now they probably don’t sell those snes demos anywhere.
As much as everyone loves to dunk on this "tech demo" for not coming even close to accurately representing the N64's graphical capabilities (yes, it's totally obvious that these were all rendered on ultra-high-end SGI Workstations & Render Farms that were far beyond the N64's final specs), I still love watching this promo as a fan of early CGI animations. There's just something about the "aesthetics" of 80's/90's CGI that utterly fascinates me.
Well, it is obvious *now*, but their target audience, back then, was comprised of kids and teens, who were not familiar with CGI and didn't know about concepts such as "offline rendering" and "render farms" (well, even some adults didn't know about such concepts. Like, there's a documentary here on RU-vid called "Rotten", that is basically a post mortem for FoodFight!, one of the worst CGI movies of all time. One of the animators who worked on that film told that she rendered a character and showed the result to the movie director Lawrence Kasanov. Kasanov, then, said something like "now show me the character from the other side". The animator said it would not be possible because that was a pre-rendered character. Kasanov, then, said "Why not?!? I see them turning all the time in the other room", and the animator tried his best to explain that it doesn't work that way. The guy didn't know about the concept of offline rendering, and he was the freaking head of the studio).
After 50 years Nintendont still believes only kids play games. My best gaming years was 20-25, as a kid I didn't enjoy game like I did in early 20s, now 53 I enjoy games like I did as a kid.
My brother and I had this VHS tape, bought it from a local rental store specifically for the Simon's Quest tips. So awesome that it's on RU-vid. This code is hilarious.
Gameboy only sold "over 12 million units' by the time this video rolled out in '94? That's...not a lot, and shows how much the industry has grown since then
