THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU I’ve been offered a job in a different state I just moved to today and the salary is so below what I normally get in my previous home state. I’ve been looking around for tips including from my high naval officer father and yours was the only tip that sounded so natural and possible for my shy self. Thank you I think this gave me the confidence to go out and call right now to ask. Wish me luck 🍀

If you know what salary you want, and what you’re worth on the market for your skills and experience and for the role, then giving them a straight up figure is totally fine. You can also ask them what their budget for the role is, to have them put their cards on the table first.

It’s all about leverage, tough when you’re a grad. Honestly the most important thing at the early stages of your career is getting that first job and some experience under your belt. I would focus on that, and then look to negotiate a pay increase once you’ve proven yourself after six to 12 months at the business.

@yourcareermastery
@yourcareermastery 3 месяца назад
Great question - some of the top qualities I’ve noticed are great communication skills, taking initiative and being proactive (i.e. not waiting for people to tell you what to do, just doing it), being able to think logically and clearly, being accountable to numbers, being able to put a clear strategy together, and being able to stay calm and reasonable even in the face of adversity. Hope that helps!

You also have to be the biggest advocate for your career - keep improving your skills and always face into new challenges in order to keep developing yourself. Hey mate great question - recruiters can be a good source of this information. Likewise some companies on LinkedIn will list the salary pay range along with the job. Further to this, you can google pay scale for jobs and find the ones that typically pay higher - ultimately it will depend on your level of experience, skills, and ability to negotiate.

Hey mate - great question. With any job search, you can use a number of channels to try and land that new job faster. I would suggest connecting with a couple of recruiters who specialise in working with engineers, they can also help you brush up your resume. They will also connect you to prospective employers. LinkedIn is a great place to apply for jobs, and you can also look up a number of relevant firms in your city and email their HR department directly. You could also find and message those contacts on LinkedIn to ask if there’s any upcoming roles available. The more interviews you get the better, as this will help sharpen your skills for when the right role comes around. Best of luck with your job search!

@yourcareermastery
@yourcareermastery 5 месяцев назад
Hey mate - no worries at all. If they have their contact information listed then feel free to contact directly. HR is probably your best option, that said, connecting with a number of recruiters is a great idea. They can sometimes be flaky, so you will want to follow up with them, however they can certainly help you prepare for the interview as it’s in their best interests to help companies find the right candidates. Job gaps are becoming more normal and common these days, no need to address it unless asked. That said you want to have a reasonable and succinct answer that addresses it if asked. What’s most important always is the skills and experience you bring to the table, now whether you took a career break or not. Cheers!

I've recently found out that I'm being paid almost the same as my "subbordinates" (I am managing a 6 people dept in an engineering company, plus I'm a woman). This has really pissed me and I have a meeting with my manager this week, although he's pretty tough when it comes to negotiating, how can I get this pay raise? I've been told that in this company it's impossible to get the kind of raise I want (and deserve) in less than a year, but tbh if I don't get it next month I might quit and get another job. I would really appreciate your help!
@yourcareermastery
@yourcareermastery 4 месяца назад
Thanks for sharing - managing a team of six is no easy feet so massive kudos to you. Managing a team of 6 and getting paid the same as the specialists in your team should be an instant red flag to your HR department, and they should instantly rectify that if they want to retain you. If they don’t adjust your pay, I would suggest you start shopping around. People management skills aren’t very common, and as a women in the engineering field you would offer a very sought after skill set to any large or small firm. Talking to recruiters could help you gauge what your salary bracket should be given your breadth of skills and experience. If you get an offer for a higher pay you can use that as leverage. If your boss is a tight a** there isn’t much you can do to change that other than force his hand. Best of luck out there - the important thing is to know your worth and feel confident asking for it.

@yourcareermastery
@yourcareermastery 7 месяцев назад
Definitely not being greedy - you can always negotiate until the contract is signed. If you demonstrate your range, and they make an offer, you can always negotiate higher and say that you’ve had a think about the role and the value that you can add, and because of this you’d be looking for a salary more of X. Good luck out there!

Great video. Thanks for sharing the tips. I just received an offer from a company. At the beginning step, they asked me to fill in an Employment Form where I had to state clearly my expected salary before and after tax deduction and also my salary in the past (breakdown in details each portions of my salary). I stated 2000$/ month as salary after tax deduction. Then I passed 2 rounds of interview and they offered the salary 2000$/month before tax deduction. It means I will just receive around 1800$/ month. Their reason was because they based on my previous salary. I was quite shocked when they collected information of my past job to set the range for my current salary. So sad!
@yourcareermastery
@yourcareermastery 7 месяцев назад
Thanks for sharing - they can be sneaky sometimes. For context, for my current role they asked me in the screening call what my expected salary was, but then they also asked me what my current salary was. It caught me off guard that they would ask for my current salary - regardless I “inflated” my current salary to better my chances of getting my expected salary. Essentially asking for your previous or current salary is none of their business - I recommend you put down whatever number you want. They are doing so to justify underpaying you, which they have tried to do. That said, you should negotiate their offer - don’t accept a lower salary if you know you’re worth more.

Thank you for sharing, my question.. what if they told you from the first stage of the interview what their budget was, which is lower than your expectation, but still go ahead to invite for the next round. A little context, i would have to relocate on my own.. How do i ask for more being that the average salary is even above my own expectation.
@yourcareermastery
@yourcareermastery 8 месяцев назад
Hey - great question. If they told you from the first stage what their budget is, then you can still proceed to second round if a) you think you could still consider the job b) you think they might flex on the budget when they decide you’re the right candidate and don’t want to lose you or c) because you want to gain more experience and practice interviewing. But I don’t recommend taking the pay cut unless you absolutely have to. You should be paid what you deserve and I promise there’s a company out there who will honour that value that you bring.

At the company I used to work for, many things you said was happening. People got promoted based on their networking skills, no real skillset, experience, knowledge whatsoever was necessary. Unfortunately, in reality, we the employees under them could see they were lacking skills, knowledge, experience, and mostly accountability. Management's mistakes were always blamed on us. They had double standards so certain employees, e.g. the ones who spied on everyone and bought information and gossip to the managers, and the ones who were not able to do their work, these employees were favoured by the managers, and it didn't matter if these employees were unable to do their tasks, made many repetitive mistakes, and all in all they were underachievers. Their toxic behaviour was never an issue at that workplace. On the contrary, toxic management needed these toxic employees because certainly, they were also lacking skills. This way they could keep their positions.

@yourcareermastery Год назад
Great question, and no simple answer here unfortunately. Depends on a number of factors, including how the offer stacks up against the market average for your role, and where your skills and experience land you on that salary range. Sometimes an employer can completely lowball you and you could request $10,000-$40,000 more especially if the role is senior. However for my last role I stated my number and their offer exceeded it so I didn’t have to negotiate it. It all depends, but you need to know your desired number going in, and negotiate from there.
@techcores
@techcores 10 месяцев назад
Don't say anything. Kindly let them down nicely while telling them you want to work for them, you are bringing x and y value, but the compensation and benefits are a bit short in areas x and y. Make them reformulated the 2nd offer before you give a number. If they insist, go high. They'll cut the difference almost always. But always butter the roll first, THEN bake it. Make them confident and know they want you, and make them show you how much that means for them money and compensation wise.
