I've been working as an RN in a large metropolitan county jail for 6+ months... Same pay as registry nursing in hospitals, but with FULL benefits (dental!!) & 8.5 hour shifts. I really like it. It's not as autonomous as ER nursing but a little bit more autonomous than med-surg. It's also the least "team"-based nursing. Where I work, in the jail hospital, it's usually one RN & 2 county sheriffs per unit per shift. Units can have anywhere from 8 to 22 patients. There's usually a CNA & an LPN too. I'm taking less crap from jail detainee patients than I ever did from ER patients -- because there's always a sheriff keeping them on their good behavior. I really like it.

@@micorrections I actually AM considering a career in the UP... I really, REALLY miss snow in Chicago...! But also ALL my family is in Chicago. Plus, I only just started this job... I would like to get vested in the pension because I am not a young RN, heh. We're also in NNOC/NNU union. It's my first nursing union job and I have to say, not being treated like an expendable tool to be used/abused and then kicked to the curb is really wonderful. As you might expect...
Oh my they act like it is a good thing health care well I almost died on December 16th 2018 health care didn't treat me for 15 days when overnight I had a cyst in my chest the size of my fist. The infirmary is so awful they treat you like shit they dont help you at all

@brownincel6018 The state hires free world citizens to supervise and handle functions that the risk of having an inmate do it is too great. I also can't confirm what Ronald said about each state having a prison make their license plates but Michigan isn't the only state where inmates work in the license plate factory.
