I observed a Texas coral snake today in the woods while squirrel hunting. I was able to get a video of her from a respectful distance with my phone. I would say she was around 3.5 feet which is a pretty good size for a coral snake.
and VERY aggressively too! I remember a TV docco where guys were collecting snakes and a copperhead bit one of the cameras and spilled it's venom all over it. Then they collected a coral snake--the talking head was just talking about how 'mild mannered' corals were, when it suddenly lashed out and began chewing on the camera! It must have smelled the cottonmouth's venom on the devise and thought it was prey. Good thing mr. talking head didn't have his hands in the way.
I got bit by a Coral Snake 3 times trying to save both the snake and my cats who were fucking with it and pissing it off. Didn't need anti-venom though and no it definitely was not a dry bite, TRUST me. But yeah the snake and the cats are all safe now.
Holy shit if you kill a Coroal Snake here in North Carolina you get a $10,000 fine and up to three years in jail because a Coroal Snake is a endangered species here in North Carolina
Is that a male do the females look different ? Cause i have an alligator lizard but not sure if its a southern or northern female or male woul really like to know
Hi Osvaldo, this one is a female. In alligator lizards, males' heads tend to be bigger in proportion to their bodes than the females' heads, particularly with regard to the rear part of the head. Males have larger, "beefier" jaw muscles than females. It is particularly noticeable in more fully grown adult males. Also, male alligator lizards will have a couple of slight bulges at the base of their tail on the lower sides. The females don't have this, so their tails will be round along the whole length, whereas the base of males' tails will look kind of squarish at the bottom. I kept this female in a tank with my male and they never fought. I don't know if two females together will fight, but if they had both been males they would have fought. One last thing: my male one time everted his hemipenes briefly while minding his own business when I was watching them one day. I don't know if males typically tend to do this, but for me it happened to confirm that he was indeed male. There's a great alligator lizard forum on kingsnake.com with some very knowledgeable folks who contribute. They may be able to identify your species for you, as I am not too familiar with west coast alligator lizard species (which I assume you have). Thanks for your comment!
Well they've got plenty of teeth and huge appetites, but the main reason they're called alligators lizards is because they have dermal bone like crocodilians. Each of their larger scales on the body, head and tail is "armored" inside with a bone. :)
I just realized why it is called an alligator lizard, cuz it looks like a mini size alligator and walks like one too lol Now all it needs is some teeth and a huge appitite :)
