My name is Morgan and I'm a PhD student in Theatre and Performance Studies. I make videos about the books I'm reading and my PhD process - including readings vlogs, book hauls, writing tips, PhD support, Obsidian and zettelkasten how-tos and so much mooore! You can also check out my Medium blog here: medium.com/@morganeua
I miss the legacy version, made it more fun and simple to connect notes by pulling at the card, not digging in menus. Bit of a shame they removed this functionality.
congrats on your bag & looking mad fine, love that color. guess my when i think about it i can't go without lip balm, tissues and maybe some nail oil.. winter sure is coming. turned around and its all work so emily henry will join the bag ❤
And they're not even a sponsor, they just sent me a bag! This was just the best way I could think of to show the bag on camera, considering most of my video styles don't feature bags 😝
Love the video but the stationary freak in me cringed at the thought of the notecards getting bent up when you threw them in lol! Also, love your way of doing morning pages! I find brain dumps helpful but hard to sort through. I never thought of doing almost a Cornell method for them.
thank you! you introduced me to zettelkasten. I found obsidian very difficult to understand. Then I heard from you about scrintal. I bought it last year but I didn't use it as I was dealing with health issues. I hope I will start now 🤞 They have a very polite support team!
@morganeua thank you! Watching all your videos on Paperpal and Scrintal! But at the same time understanding zettelkasten and note taking and what's best way I can stay organised for my PhD!! I am a visual learner with Dyslexia and you explain everything well! Thank you!
Would love to see you make a Scrintal video that shows you connecting images throughout the canvas vs 95% being text base. After all, if it is being advertised as a visual tool I think a lot of (potential) users might use visuals over text. Not all, of course, but would be nice to cover the bases. Often wit these canvas tools I find that they fall short with images as the image size cannot be reduced, they get cut off, etc. Think it would be an interesting video Earlier you mentioned that you cannot create a fleeting note in Obsidian without it being a permanent note. I think that depends if you are approaching things the same way as you are in Scrintal or not. Meaning from a visual/ canvas perspective. If you are (meaning you are using the Canvas) then that's not quite accurate. You cards are indeed fleeting (meaning they are not actually files) while you can turn them into files or connect files in the first place to the Canvas. That's not to take away from Scrintal though as I think it is quite more powerful from a canvas perspective in many other regards Was a nice video. Look forward to seeing a deeper dive after you have had time to explore the new update
Very helpful video. Although I find it hard to kind of merge into system of daily notetaking too. Do you advise to separate those two or maybe there IS a way to have it in more natural way?
I would love to see a video series about Zettelkasten with Logseq. Logseq is a free and open-source alternative to Roam Research and often compared to Obsidian, but it is a true outliner. BTW, I really enjoy your Zettelkasten content.
Brava! Continuing to love your content & insights! Scrintal must be, too - how great they’re supporting and partnering with you, a thought leader in this space! Good luck with the dissertation, too!!! 📚📄💻
Totally, luckily there are free apps out there and if you use Obsidian, you can even just import all your notes from there into Scrintal if you decide to switch!
Oh boy, I have to post an update video soon. It's been on hold for about 2 months due to big changes in my life. But I'm about ready to pick it up again and finish writing. It's about 1/3 written and most research is complete, so hopefully it doesn't take TOO much longer!
Hm, well, luckily there are free alternatives out there, especially if you don't mind the bidirectional linking being separate from the infinite canvas.
Really enjoyed the video! I am curious if you have any recommended sources for circus opera, I know there is a school in Berlin for this genre, but I couldn’t find many examples of this art on RU-vid. Keep up the great content!
The idea is great and I'll be using it in my zettlekasten. Seeing how you actually take notes, was akways helpful for me. Thank you for your videos. Keep it Up ♥👍
I really enjoyed this video. Thank You. I been working on simplifying my note taking and it kind of lead me toward the Zettlekasten. Which I like a lot. I even try to get smaller notebooks so I can write or write more emphasis on what really matters. However a lot of the writers write so much better then I (why their authors I guess) but I really enjoy active reading and trying to apply things to myself on a day to day basis
Hi Morgan. I’m wondering where you store your notes when you read articles? Is it a reference manager like Mendeley or in your Obsidian? Are you also naming each note after the author and the year? For me, when I read an article I often have general notes that may or may not yet connect to other notes that are already in my Obsidian (I’m fairly new to obsidian so maybe this will become less of a problem soon). Thanks!
I’m very interested in the zettelkasten concept in itself, but I have yet found a way to utilize it in long-term… I’d love to see more unconventional uses of zettelkasten besides academic settings.
I love the thought process. Google for your thoughts. Cool. Also kinda love that your video automatically knows that we want to see the dog settling in for a nap.
Oh GOOD! I just started my obsidian version and I was having a great time and then watched some videos that made me feel like I completely screwed up because I don’t have folders and labels… 😅 I’m feeling better now and maybe I’ll have to add structure later but for now I’m quite happy with my chaotic happy notes.
Hey there! I just started getting into Note-Taking in general. I have always been a poor student, but I have recently started to develop aspirations to know more about myself, my Job, and other things in General. I just started using Obsidian, and have probably written less than 50 notes in my current Vault (I keep on deleting everything and restarting once I think I have made a "mistake"), and the urge to just delete everything and restart is such a huge temptation for me. Your second Note-Taking-Session in this Video has inspired me to keep on going and not to restart everything. I believe this is a personal Victory for me, and I just wanted to share that. I have been randomly watching Obsidian "tutorials" to see where this will lead me to, and I must say, you have been a great help!
