Hi! I am a college student who breakdances. I don't upload videos very frequently at all. The engineering lyfe is too stress :( One day I will post more breakdance videos. For now you can enjoy my several-years old windmill tutorial from when I was in high school on my channel, in which I present the content material in an overly verbose fashion. I will likely start a new channel under my real name eventually.
I just want to say -- and i know this is an old video. But this advice is SPOT on for someone who is learning this move at the moment. Thank you for making this!
This video deserves more love, propZ to you, kid! Way to share your experience and the passion that you have in this way of helping others. It's been ages since I've been able to get good windmill turns and at 34, I wanna learn it again. Great pointers! Although I already most of them, I find this video inspiring. Thank you!
As a total beginner who's stuck on the initial swing, this is a great help, thanks dude! you willing to maybe look at my progression video to help me out?
Whoa I posted this like 2.5 years ago, didn't expect like 3000 views. Alright, IDK if anyone's reading this, but in the future I'll probably put up more tutorials as I master more moves. I might redo the tips tutorial video just to incorporate all the things I learned about windmill since then, like head-based windmills.
marcel lightning it turns out my barrel windmills have gotten very rusty and I'm not good at them at the moment. In the future, yeah I'll get to it. Eventually. But within the next month or so, before college resumes, I'll probably create a flare tutorial/tips like this.
Watched your cleaning windmills tutorial and am having trouble grasping the sweeping with left leg technique (I got clockwise). Near the end of my 1 windmill I barely have any power left and have to almost hop to restab. Any help on this?
ur advices was helpful but for some reasons i can't restab and lift my legs up at the same time and i feel like my back was bending too much is that wrong?
hmm. I think it should. There's a real repetition of what you do with your legs when you do multiples - it feels like you're swinging each leg, one at a time, on and on and on... I really think that windmills are hardest to get started. Like, once you have momentum it's hard to screw up. So therefore I think if you get multiples it could help, but try to keep form good too.
well, i guess i'll just practice swinging my leg circular. Anyway, if I just focus on continuing the mill instead of fixing the first rotation, will it change by itself?
ahh if your legs are flexible enough but you can't keep them open, then it's just a matter of practice from now. just make sure to swing the left leg HARD, and it's like you're trying to "kick your face" during the initial sweep with your left leg. If you can have a vid up I can confirm my suspicions, but for now I think you just need more practice to get used to the motion.
well, i cant do splits but i think my legs wide enough for a windmill. The only problem is to keep them wide, and circular. My right leg is high enough, the only problem is my left leg, it cant move circular.
Oh. Now I understand what you mean. You want to keep your legs spread, but instead when you do the initial swing, your right leg goes up and then your left leg swings too prematurely and consequently it scissors? Alright, I'm going to ask - how low can you go for a split, and how far are you when you do a hurdle stretch or touch your toes? My friend has a problem like this because he isn't flexible enough to keep the legs circular.
Here's the thing: imagine you are making two large arcs with each leg. When you start out, you kick your right leg up, right? then your left leg has the opportunity to SWING all the way through. Notice how your left leg goes from low to high throughout the course of the initial sweep. I think the best way to practice this is by walking it through slowly, just focusing on one leg. Then, move on to trying it with both. That way, you build muscle memory for the move.
well, I cant record videos coz my camera is broken now. I better explain it more. In windmill, the swinging leg (for CCW, left leg) has to stay close to the floor. Just like sweeping the floor to make momentum. In my first rotation, my swinging leg seems to stay on the air (swing high), not close to the floor. No matter how much I try to control my swinging leg, it just wont stay low. How do I fix this?
yeah, practicing will allow you to condition yourself. When I perform stabbed windmills, I don't feel anything on my wrist. I used to practice a lot of handglide freeze, one arm handglide freeze, anything like handstand, ect. as for the abdomen, the pain just went away. It hurts if I do a lot of cricket/jackhammer practice though, but yeah. Don't hurt yourself and go slowly, and your practice will be paid off soon.
yes! in fact, splits do help. I might redo this video to make it more concise - but something that i've realized is that it's about swinging your legs through their fullest range of motion. Consider what happens if you kick really high such that your leg almost hits your face. That's what you want to do when windmilling. Why is this good? Because you're trying to be as fast as possible. When you swing your leg, your body moves, so the longer your reach, the better off you are.
You have hand pain? That sounds like your wrist to me. Most likely you are collapsing correctly actually - if you messed up collapsing you typically bang your arm/shoulder really hard. If your wrist is hurting, you just need to strengthen it by doing more freezes, and make sure you warm it up/stretch it out before and after practice. If you post a vid that'll help me acertain if you have any problems
