It's also shown each year here in Denmark on our equivalent of the BBC. One year, they decided to not show it... The furore of the population was not to be ignored, and they apologized not realizing just how popular the skit is. They _haven't_ dared take it off since! I've shared the skit with my fiancé in America, and she finds it just as hilarious as I do. Thank you to Freddie Frinton for all the laughs he gives us in dark times...
There is no real new year's eve without here in Germany! By the way, the last excerpt is not from the German NDR version, it is from the Swiss version which ist slightly different. 😉 With a small misshap in the germen one and because a woman who in the audience with a outstanding laugh, I recommend the German one, but please, decide by yourself 🙏🏻 Thank you Freddy
@@peterlarsen7779 Various little differences… the swiss version leaves out some details (it is, if my info is correct, about 7 minutes shorter than the german version). For instance, the first (and at least also the second) time James has to do Admiral von Schneider, he asks Miss Sophie if he really must click his heels. The swiss version doesn't have those bits.

Wow, Australia, South Africa? I knew that it has spread to many European countries, but the fact that it's being enjoyed around the world is just awesome.
A brilliant comedian who unfortunately was born too soon. His timing was immaculate and I am proud to have been born in the same town! Thank you Freddie for the many laughs and happy memories.
A brilliant comedian who was born at the right time. His skill, timing and persona are pure music hall and for that I am grateful.I can watch any number of modern "alternatives" or great wits whose only art is sarcasm, sex or swearing but they do not last and no one will remember them in 50 years or more
