The title is appropriate to include the word 'Gumnaam'. Yes, a poet and an author of significant standing, and a prolific contributor of lyrics and story/screenplay in his own time, the name of Dr. Safdar 'Aah' has now become obscure. Even the serious cinephiles, listening to the songs created by his pen, and watching movies written by him, are quite sadly unaware of his identity., even his name. Another very well researched and well scripted episode - an introduction once again to this luminary wordsmith from the Golden Era of Hindi Cinema. A salute and many thanks for this episode that is very informative.
Keshto, Yes a name that is synonymous with with a bumbling drunkard. With rare exceptions his roles in films have been generally brief. But always memorable. In his first appearance on the Hindi screen in film 'Musafir' (1957) as a street performer (accompanied by Heera Sawant and no less than Shailendra himself as the performer's team), he portrays a person afflicted with polio. His dance in the song "Tedhi Tedhi Hum Se Phire Saari Duniya" must have been a painful experience, as he shakes and dances and falls on the ground, then gets up, and falls again, at times sliding on the ground. But in fact he is a normal person - at the end of the song, there is a brief dialogue between him and Kishore Kumar, where he stands up straight, giving a fright to Kishore. 😆😆 Couple additional points about the information in the video above. During his career, he has appeared in more than 170 films in all. Also, there are two songs that have been picturised on him in Hindi films. In the 1957 film 'Naya Zamaana', he has performed the song "Aaj Is Nagri Kal Us Nagri, Dhuyen Ki Gaadi Udaaye Liye Jaaye". Then in the 1977 film 'Chala Murari Hero Ban'ne', a portion of an old song from film 'Kohinoor' (1960) - "Do Sitaaron Ka Zameen Par Hai Milan" is performed by him on screen. Thanks for documenting the story of this short-roles-comedian, who has left an indelible mark in the memory of cine goers. The comedians / comediennes series is a delight. 👍

मजरूह सुल्तानपुरी के दो बेटे हैं - एरम और अंदलीब और तीन बेटियॉं हैं - नौगुल, नौबहार और सबा। एरम की death हो चुकी है, अंदलीब का फ़िल्मों से कोई नाता दिखाई नहीं दिया। बेटियां अपनी गृहस्थी में व्यस्त हैं।

Yes, a name that one would encounter in the title credits all the way in films from 1950s till 1980s and 90s. A remarkable career as a wordsmith - and almost a 100 films to his credit. He got appropriate recognition from his peers in the industry, but looking at his filmography, I believe he deserved more than one award that he got for his story telling. The mystery of Inder Raj - RK spat will probably always remain a mystery - the protagonists and their families have always maintained silence about the episode. Regardless, there is no belittling of the Inder Raj's contribution towards making of hit films in our industry. Mostly, the film writers' community in Hindi cinema has remained anonymous and in the background. Aside from the popular success of the Salim-Javed team, I cannot recall any other writer that became a household name in their own time. Yes, the knowledgeable cinephiles will easily talk about KA Abbas, Rajinder Singh Bedi, Sachin Bhowmick et al, but more often than not, the public awareness of the writers identity is vague, even while discussing very successful films. This series is an appropriate and a striking tribute to the unsung litterateurs of Hindi Cinema, Thanks again.
